The pricing of the keybord is just down right outrages. The keybord case im using was roughly $30 and does everything i need it to do.

If anyone is coming back to this video, here are a couple things to note:
1. cmd + w now does in fact close apps with ease.
2. Taking notes and being in a Zoom call is now significantly easier with the new quick notes swiping up front the bottom right. Also multitasking in general is largely improved.
3. Fun fact, even though the trackpad is nice and clicky, if you’re like me and you just like to lightly tap on the trackpad to initiate a press, you can toggle that on in settings! Very useful.
4. The Magic Keyboard case feels amazing and makes it so much easier to carry your iPad around safely with style and a keyboard ready to go with trackpad any time you need it. It’s insanely strong and protects your iPad probably better than any other case would.
Don’t forget iPad OS is always getting updates that makes the overall experience a lot more useable and enjoyable! Still not on laptop level but very good for most tasks people deal with.
cmd+q still doesn't work for me, I have to cmd+tab and then cmd+q to quit applications.

@@sarm227 that’s wild bc I promise you it works for me. Maybe it’s a hidden feature in the accessibility or keyboard settings, idk. I messed with that stuff a long time ago to set it up the way I want so maybe that’s all it is.
@@zedmouse Hi I just tried it on mine (iPad Air 2020) and command & Q brings up a list of shortcuts, which is handy as I never knew it was there.
This is the second review of yours that I've seen. The first was for the iPad Air 4. Straight forward, easy to understand, no gimmicks, no obnoxious music drowning out the conversation, plenty of detail with clear explanations of features and whether or not they fall into the "essential" / "nice to have" / "meh" scale to help those of us who are less knowledgeable determine how much we should spend.

I've had this iPad Pro, magic keyboard, and apple pencil for about 8 months as a student and it's amazing. If you're only taking notes and web browsing and do a lot of multitasking with apps side by side then this is just perfect.
My favorite is opening my textbook in the books app and my notes in the notes app side by side with multitasking :) I can highlight my textbook on the left, and write notes about it on the left

@@catboy3471 ok, first, it is clearly a limitation made by a decision to not include any function key, so of course you can do it, but just way not making it simple. Second, it's clearly a rant about something that makes the experience far worst: you can go to the upper right corner, have the control panel and then skip, or you can three-finger swipe to the music app, or you can remove your finger from the keyboard, to open the control center manually; it's not incapacitating, it's just far less comfortable than having a button

Excellent review by someone with a true gift of how to engage and deliver meaningful information in an easy to digest manner.
As someone who’s completed 40% of my master’s degree online utilizing only my iPad, I can tell you for probably 80%-90% of people, you can use an iPad as your dedicated machine. The 10%-20% of outliers would be heavy creative content, like significant video or audio production. I can work from it as well, and I do indeed have teams calls and take notes at the same time, or watch class lecture and take notes at the same time.

Ben Humphreys that does not always work sometime for some reason iPad does not register Spotify is playing so I need to go to Spotify app to change. If I try to do it via right side pull down menu it will start playing beats radio
Hello Marques. Thank you for the review even though I am 3 years late. I looked your review up because I knew you would have a review on the magic keyboard. Now I know what to do.
Just a heads up, you can change brightness with trackpad. Also, you CAN leave a full screen with trackpad as well. It does everything. You use the double finger gesture.
Every year, apple comes with an iPad that is supposed to be a laptop and advertised like a laptop and every year mkbhd reviews it and ends the video with the same line, “it’s great but I still need my laptop”

Great review. I have switched over to this combo in lieu of getting a new laptop and I can tell you I much prefer it. Here are the main reasons why: number one, and I cannot stress enough how awesome this is, SIM card internet. I have internet wherever I am all the time. 2, I love the touch screen, even when using it in laptop mode (on the magic keyboard). 3, love to use it with apps, notable are PDF editors where you can edit PDFs and sign and send back using the Apple Pencil etc. For multi tasking: You didn’t use the split screen function! You can have your zoom call and spotify, works great :-) Yeah its a little heavier than a laptop, yeah it is a bit Top heavy and yeah I find myself looking for the missing escape button (although less and less as I figure out the hot keys etc) but the versatility is unbeatable. Lastly it just feels so premium from top to bottom.

I am not sure how come someone can earn a living to show the rest if the world how to us a piece of tech. I would like to understand if he is an engineer that can provide a true opinion on design and tech or a brownie/blackie that needs to be recognized somehow.
More than a year later since I purchased the magic keyboard, it works really well and has also held up pretty well too. I had taken the ipad to multiple construction sites as well.

I went with the Logi keyboard apples sells. I had a surface table before my iPad Air and I liked how the hinge was fully adjustable and that the keyboard detached. The Logi case does all that and it’s really nice.

Excellent review. I have an older iPad Air and older Macbook where the screen is broken so have been looking at replacing bot, or one or the other. I only need to type occasionally on the iPad, and very rarely use the laptop as I have an iMac, so this is the way forward for me.

I LOVE this case, but I find it tends to force me to use the iPad more like my laptop than I would any other iPad. Because now I'm loathe to pop it out! BUT It is a perfect substation for travel. I am sick of traveling with my MacBook Pro, and this makes for a great combo, if not just as heavy! Great video!

8:01 Quick suggestion: you can go on the control center by swiping down from the top right corner and just quickly access the music controls. With trackpad, just click the battery icon and click whatever you need to control the music.
Just an FYI about having to touch the screen for a few functions: you can in fact do all of this stuff from the trackpad itself.
Swiping to the top right on the trackpad and swiping up a again will bring the drop down to adjust volume, screen brightness, skip tracks, etc... swiping to the far right of the screen and then swiping right once again will bring up the slide over apps. I usually dock Spotify as a slide over and then access things here as well. Works rather well actually.

Edit: I imagine Apple will add a control center shortcut at some point for adjusting/turning off keyboard brightness.
2nd Edit: Yeah this isn’t an ideal solution, but if having to touch the screen was a deal breaker for buying this keyboard, you don’t have to touch it and it’s not too bad. Not good, but not bad.
Infosmercial Interacting with menus in the screen even via the track pad is still not comparable to having a row of dedicated hardware buttons to quickly and directly do what you need to do.

IMHO: Even though iPadOS has been an improvement for a more robust “computing” experience on iPad, it still falls very short - specifically in terms of the iPad Pro being a monster of a device, plus now this amazing keyboard. It’s now time for Apple to either bring iPadOS a few steps closer to macOS, or just wrap up on a full merge between both systems. With the specs on the iPad Pro, you can more than ever feel the software staying significantly behind the hardware; iPad OS really feels like “iOS Office Edition”, rather than the “what’s a computer” concept that Apple it trying to push.
hate to tell you sunshine but the ipad pro's "pro specs" would choke on a real OS. It's why they haven't done it and honestly it's hilarious.
Apple always touting "it's the most powerful hardware out there" but the software limits it to maybe 30% of all that power so.... ok.
TAGE FPV right, which is why he’s saying that the right software could really use the iPad to its fullest potential, and do it without sacrificing speed or reliability. Questionable whether battery would suffer, but at that point you have to ask if you’re a power user and should really be using a tablet/folio setup for whatever it is that you do.
@@TAGE_FPV No, It's not the fastest but it doesn't need to be as iPad OS doesn't need a i7 processor 2080 ti but even if you run windows on iPad it would be faster than a surface go. So don't provide false information just because you can't grade arm chips

TAGE FPV considering that when the 2018 iPad Pros came out they were more powerful than almost every MacBook Pro up until that point, I’m gonna say citation needed on that one

Worth noting touchpad gestures can also be used to exit full screen video (pinch) or to go to the home screen (three finger swipe) if you prefer. Fast and fluid. No need to touch the screen.
Noah Schott Because it’s a tablet, and the point is to have the touchscreen. Tablets are more useful than laptops in that they function as touchscreen still, allowing you to do a lot of things a laptop doesn’t. When my Macbook fried, and it took a year to get it fixed and to save all the files, I used my 1st gen iPad Pro with the old school Apple keyboard, and it did an excellent job of functioning as my main computer. Certainly, using Keynotes was more difficult without a mouse/trackpad, but anything else worked perfectly and I found myself not needing my Macbook at all. The iPad can replace a keyboard easily, and not having an escape button isn’t an actual problem when you can achieve far more with the touchscreen, especially with the Apple pencil. In all honesty, you’d still be wise to have a Mac for your desk, to really use professionally, but an iPad is an even better replacement of Macbook for daily use, every day job situation, business trips, and vacations. It’s more useful to bring an iPad to work/school than to bring a Macbook.
