So I have given this ago and nearly finished the piece. It looks great, but here are a few tips: Your better of doing it on a hardwood canvas or go very gently because when the canvas moves the joint compound can crack very easily. It cracked on mine, but my detailed antique looking background required sponging and patting. The cracks actually look really cool but I will now have to seal it with a polyurethane or something. Try to find a soft shoe polish, mine was hard so it did not wipe on or of easily without breaking bits of compound of. So I had to mix veggie oil to my shoe polish to soften it. Worked great. And an obvious note but important, if you don't want to loose that gold colour when your working with the polish, make sure you are always changing to a clean part of the cloth for wiping off. But thank you Amy Pearce, it's a really fun and affective idea. Can't wait to put on my wall!!! :)
amy- I'm following your technique, making a large elephant painting. I put Styrofoam between the crossbars of the canvas frame and canvas materials to keep the canvas from flexing too much. but, still, the joint compound is very fragile cracking easily. I've put one coat of spray paint on so far. did you have any trouble with cracking and flaking?
its amazing, thanks a lot for sharing this video for us, i am certainly gonna try this,. looking forward for more videos from you.please keep the same positive spirit .
Amy you are just incredible!! I have been watching you for about a year or two and I have to say, THIS IS MY FAVORITE PAINTING EVER!!!! I am a Leo and have always LOVED LOVED LOVED really mystic or beautifully created Lions. They are my favorite cats and I have always wanted to see one up close. Anyway, enough about me, This painting is GORGEOUS! I hope my excitement is coming across in a sweet admiring way cuz I just love your style. I'm so happy you are posting vids again. Oh, and your son is just cute as a button :-) I really love this painting. I think it's one of your best ever. Big Hugs!! Reeah.
I love this!!!! ... and what I love even more is that YOU are SOOO Smart by putting a double boarder around the edge, where it looks like a very expensive Frame ... and to frame that... it would have been very expensive... This is Beautiful.... Love it... ;) ... How much did this weigh after you were through???? I know a normal 3' x 2' is very heavy... ;)
You are such an inspiration to me Mam...Thank you for doing such amazing videos...love them all, have learnt so much from you...!! You are so awsme 😍😘💜 Love all your videos 😊💜
I had to come back in and watch this video. I see this behind you in other videos. I LOVE it. It looks like an Egyptian piece of art. Gorgeous! As you did each stage I was nervous but remembered the final product. lol You made the right decisions. :D
Marvellous, I was just wanted to paint a solid texture painting, but I was completely lost in reading too many articles. This is perfect. Thanks much Amy.
Great tutorial. One question though: Isn't painting acrylic over spray paint risky? Aren't you afraid it will peel off? Your tutorials are very helpful and inspiring. Thanks. And our family thinks Grant's video is wonderful. God bless you all.
Amy, I am so in love with this! I agree, what a massive undertaking! And your son is adorable! This can easily be sold for a few thousand dollars! Did you sell it or do you ever sell any of your art? What do you do with all your paintings? Anyways, I've subscribe to your channel cuz I started painting a few weeks ago. I painted a peacock but I don't really like it. Covered up the background, (the feathers) white cuz I just think its too dark. Gonna try to fix it if I can but will have to wait till I get some money to buy more paint! Thank you so much for sharing your gift with us Amy :) Your a rock star girlfriend xo
This is amazing!!!! Is the joint compound heavy when it dries? Also how long does it take to dry? I'm going to create something this weekend. I have 2 24x36 canvases I've been wanting to do something new with. Can't wait!!
Gorgeous. I love watching other people's creativity and talent come to life. I bet you were so nervous you would ruin your hard work...I would be so mad, I would probably cry.
Hi Amy, love it! What type of spray paint did you use. Was it water based or enamel? As your other fans have said "great to have you back posting vids"!
Hey gorgeous , I loveeeeeeee ur work n u n ur kids....please keep painting ....😘😘😘😘😘😘😘 where do u live ? Do u have time to give classes ? Would love to take one class atleast ...loveeeeee ur work
Very inspiring, thanks for sharing and I agreed with everything you were saying along the way. "I thought about leaving it like this.." Etc. and every time you were right to not leave it as it was, even though it was already great! I'm assuming Home Depot or lowes has the compound? I want to try this!!!
I really enjoyed watching you paint. the lion looks awesome. I'm just starting to use modeling paste and have painted flowers and I am really happy with it.
Watching the video I can totally understand and agree with your questioning where to stop and if you should continue....but I must admit the final painting is stunning!
That is a fabulous piece of art! I wasn't sure about the shoe polish I thought noooooo! But I have to say it gives it so much depth it's almost as if the lion is coming out of the painting. You're very talented and generous to share your creations. Your son is lovely and not shy of the camera ( a star is born do you think?) do your kids enjoy the art? I wondered as you said your daughter wasn't keen on the polish.
I loved this tutorial so much I tried to recreate it on a much smaller scale. I possess very little artistic abilities and am having a problem blending out the shoe polish around the edges. I got a little carried away and have tried blending the paint back over some spots. Is there any other way to salvage what has taken me a week to do? Or is blending paint back into it the only way? 🤔
I love this picture Amy, it's gorgeous. I have done a few of your paintings and they turn out great . Can not wait to be able to do this one when i can stand to be out in the garage for the space needed to cold right now.
Love this! Oh my gosh this is just breath taking. It's a little advanced for me as I haven't even started with oils yet but this is definitely on my to do list once I get better at painting. Keep em coming. I would LOVE to see you paint an angel. :) Love you!
Mind blowing its soooooo beautiful definately I will try but I wana try something different like flowers but how can make ?? Plz plz draw in a paper or anywhere u want n make tutorial plz ....
Thank you! This is actually one of my personal favorites. Check out my channel. I've been doing quite a few flower tutorials lately. Hopefully something in there will be helpful.
This is just amazing!! I have a UA-cam playlist called "things to try"... Funnily enough, a LOT of your tutorials are in this list. So thank you, thank you, thank you!
Love it! I'm interested in using some wall compound in my art (I'm a painter so I've always got some of it kicking around), but I'm curious if you have to use it on board as opposed to canvas to prevent cracking due to flex in the canvas. Is yours on board?
+jennyfreak I used canvas for this one. It definitely could crack, but I seriously love it so I really hope not! I'm sure it would be safer on a board especially if you have to move it about much.
Amazing piece of art! Quick question for you tho... What is the condition of the art in now? Have you had any shrinking, cracking, chipping or ya know the compound falling off?
This is simply amazing!! I cannot WAIT to try it!! My best friend and his fiancee are getting married soon, and I think I'm going to try this technique for a wedding present!!
You are such a beautiful girl, i love watching you I am 52 and am about to embark on my adventure and journey into this creative mine cant wait!! Young lady you so inspire me. love how you think out side the box keep it up...!!
I fell asleep last night (rough day at work) while watching your 'podcast' I enjoyed watching you and your family together. Please do another one soon.
I have watched this twice, I can't believe how much I love this painting. I'm going to try my hand at this type of painting. Thank you so much for sharing.
I've been watching you for almost a year now, and you've helped me grow as a young artist. This is by far my favorite painting you've done! I can't wait to try it myself!
+ciara parrish I actually used a couple of different brands, because my first bottle ran out. One was a little stiffer than the other, but I actually preferred the one that smeared more easily, which unfortunately I didn't see the brand before I threw it away, and I had just grabbed it out of my dad's closet without looking. Oops!
+Amy Pearce (Her Art from the Attic) thanks so much I will just have to find the right one! half of the fun is finding new textures, materials etc anyhow! thank you!! :)

That’s awesome, can I add acrylic paint to joint compound before applying it ?
Wow, Amy, this is fantastic just absolutely beautiful. And your boys are so precious.
Hi Amy, love it! What type of spray paint did you use. Was it water based or enamel? As your other fans have said "great to have you back posting vids"!
Amy, wow. Would love to see this technique done with the gold and shoe polish only with any subject matter. Thanks.

Hi, I'm wondering what the canvas was? I did mine with sheetrock, but it was heavy.
I really enjoyed watching you paint. the lion looks awesome. I'm just starting to use modeling paste and have painted flowers and I am really happy with it.
What kind of canvas/surface do you use when working with the drywall mud?
I love it! You should check it out Lion of judah. It would be more awesome if u used golden with black background.
Watching the video I can totally understand and agree with your questioning where to stop and if you should continue....but I must admit the final painting is stunning!
What a massive undertaking, beautifully made!
Where might I find shoe polish? (In the U.S) Don't know where to start looking.

must it be acrylic spray?? the green and gold?? someone say to me it must be specific for acryl art :(
I loved this tutorial so much I tried to recreate it on a much smaller scale. I possess very little artistic abilities and am having a problem blending out the shoe polish around the edges. This is great! You are such an inspiration! Thanks and a big hug from the other side of the earth (europe)!!💖
Amazing! so many ideas to run with, with this technique
Amy does the compound crumble at all how did it hold up? thanks J. English Garden Accents & Crafts FB. Your singing is fabulous by the way.
+ladyjayne777 I haven't noticed a problem, so far, but I've honestly not been using this method very long.
Love lion pictures and this is excellent. Very easy to understand and one I will try.

I love the way the gold looks textured - very regal! Great tutorial and gave me some good ideas, thank you! :)
Absolutely love this. what type of shoe polish do you use? I'm always worried about it smearing or being too runny.
+ciara parrish I actually used a couple of different brands, because my first bottle ran out.
