Dan let me join the appreciation of this beautiful painting you have so in-depth explained, so appreciating your help and guidance of how to bring in the energy of the steps to completion…😊
I have so valued your teachings in various forms for a long time now. But I REALLY like seeing and hearing you describe your process of painting. Please continue to do more videos. I have been trying to "loosen up" my traditional methods of painting, but seeing how you proceed and how you describe "why" you do what you are doing is INVALUABLE! You are such a great and thorough teacher!!
I have always enjoyed your written lessons and explanations. But I really like this video, right from the start. So many painting tutorials are frustrating because the artist doesn't mention the surface they are painting on or the colors they are using. And I love your description of your approach to creating the basic drawing with various brushstrokes. Never heard anyone say they use "timid" brushstrokes, but it's a perfect description for those beginning wispy strokes that define the tree shapes and the shapes of the branches in your underpainting. Also helpful to see how you hold your brush while you are painting and to see how you carefully added the blue sky in and around the flowers. Most of all, I really enjoyed hearing your voice and your commentary. Excellent production. I hope you have plans to do more videos! Thank you for sharing this one!
Thank you for this informative video!!! I never knew you had a UA-cam channel :) I read the articles in your website and receive your emails. But this was really very useful. Thank you once again :)
Thanks a lot Dan, especially for the huge amount of explanations and remarks following along your process, good idea to use voice with video, thanks again 😊
Hi Dan, thank you for sharing this video of you painting Magenta Flowers. I found it very helpful and learned a lot from your commentary and from watching how you paint , in your wonderful loose style, with brush and pallet knife . Cheers Arnaud
Thanks, Dan, for this addition to your learning resources. Everything you provide is of great value to me as a learner, and the video is a great addition. I find myself getting stuck here and there during the process of working on a painting. Not sure what I need to do next with my brushes, is the problem for me. Seeing you work right on through to the completion will help me get over this hang-up, I think. More videos will be great if you can do them.
This painting is just lovely, and the explanations and insights are very important!! Thank you for sharing your process Dan!! We definitely need videos like this:)
Well done Dan, very encouraging to watch you do your painting, and hear your explanation of your colours and techniques. I enjoyed doing your landscape master class it was very interesting and informative, love this video, thanks Dan.
Excellent demonstration. I felt like I was sitting on your shoulder and I was painting. Most helpful video I have seen from you. Merci de Québec, Canada
Thank you Dan for this beautiful painting demo. I appreciate how you walk us through the whole process, please continue bringing more videos and share your knowledge.
Mesmerizing. Lecture and demonstration are an important method of teaching for me. I still love your written content. Your content is perfect! Keep the vids coming please. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you. This is so helpful. I like the way you combine the knife and the brush and the resulting strokes. The combined Colours leading to the finished painting results in a beautiful painting. Your descriptions along the way are so helpful.
This is amazing - thank you so much. I just love your technique and each time I start a painting I try to paint loosely like this, but always fail.. I will persévère, however and, if you can do more of these, then, yes please!
Such a great video. I like the way you talk us through how you work and the fact that things don't always go right, plus how you fix your 'mistakes'. Also, I enjoyed watching you paint with the palette knife, especially as I am not at all experienced with them. I am looking forward to seeing more.
This video was insightful to a degree I hadn't expected, in comparison to the written analyses which I also enjoy and benefit from immensely. I hope you can create more videos like this one -- especially on topics such as painting mist (loved that post!) which would be especially helpful to see being done in real time. Thank you for doing what you do!
To hear your voice explaining your point of views and watching you paint was incredible! I love the combination of brush and knife work which applies to my acrylic painting too.. Go teacher Dan!
I am in the process of working through the lessons in the landscape curriculum. This video has the effect of bringing all of the teachings together at one time. An integration if you will. Very helpful.
Yes, I found this video very helpful! Especially since I haven't used a palette knife very much. And your painting turned out so beautiful and fresh-looking. Thank you!
Nicely done, I tend to get a lot of detailed drawing before I start but I do like your approach. I think it comes with experience. Theres such a fine line between a loose rendition and a muddy mess, your way of working is a direction I will need to persue if only to see how I respond to the training wheels being taken off.
Thank you Daan you are a great painter.. The colors that you use are : Cobalt blue, Ultramarine blue, Magneta, Titanium White, Viridian ? Can I use acrylics instead of Oils ?
Dan i forgot, what kind of and what size is your painting brush? If I am going to learn from you, Please keep in mind the essentials for your students, colors, size of brush, what kind of and size of surfice you use.. Thank you for sharing, Dan.
I'm going to ask a dumb question....If you're not happy with the saturation in the sky, can you glaze over it in the future? Or is the paint too thick?

Fantastic, very helpful, and scholarly. Please, yes, more videos.
Very helpful. I echo the other comment.... please do more!

the uses of brushes and palette knives. Fabulous
Lovely and I like the sky as it is : )
Wow! I didn't expect to get so many nice comments. Thank you all for your kind words. I’ll be posting more of these in the future. Dan.
Beautiful! Love the thick and juicy paint. For me it brings the term I've heard in painting, "organized chaos"..
Enjoyable and informative !
You nailed the sky colors. Actually all of the colors. Great tutorial.
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing this!

Colors used by Dan Yellow too. May ask you to have the colors written down, or describing them in the beginning of the video ? A great artwork.

I am Theodore.
Ñew to painting..so don't know why you wouldn't paint in the sky 1st please explain
Why wouldn’t you tint the canvas first to make the sky easier
Hi Karen. Sometimes I prefer to just jump straight into it. No other reason than that really. Cheers!
