  • I'll probably go to hell for this, but I thought I'd try playing Francisco Tárrega's "Capricho Árabe" on a Danelectro Vincent Bell Coral Electric Sitar. When I heard the recommended drop D tuning makes the drone strings resonate by design, this piece came to mind.
It was a challenge to keep the intonation aligned as this instrument buzzes out of control if you let it.
Another challenge was trying to respect the piece that was written as a late romantic 'tone poem' inspired by the Arabic influences heard in Spanish folk music. Balance that with an attempt to try and respect of the 1960s psychodelia sounds that inspired the Corel sitar guitar itself, and adding a few Indian style spices to the mix and I came up with this.
I'm not really sure if it works but it was fun trying.
Special thanks to David Briggs for trusting me to use his instrument. It's one of those moments I will remember in my musical journey and greatly appreciate all your support.

Awesome! So good! I just bought the rogue knockoff, literally dropped it off at my local, beloved guitar tech and I should have it in a few days.
