They make it sound the way it does. You don't normally play them (they're inaccessible on a regular sitar), but they give it its signature sound

    • @benjaminwoodrowmusic6070

@@yeasstt it's the buzz Bridge that makes this sound the way it does on a regular sitar it also has a bridge which creates that buzz but the sympathetic strings resonate along with the noyes you play as they are tuned to the particular raag you're playing in...i dont think the drone strings resonate in the same way on this one.

Nice performance! I just got the Rogue Sitar copy to play through a Line 6 Helix. It brings in a whole new palette of sonics for the guitarists. Really fun to play.

You're lucky to have a piece like that. Can't be that many of them made. That sound made so many Philly hits and even Rory G used it in Philby. Strange how so many modern 'great' guitarists don't use it now and again.

    • @bojangprodoktschns5428

I guess the problem is that instruments like this always contain a kind of fakeness. They appropreate a sound ignoring the tradition and culture the sound has grown of, and they always emanate from the instrument that is culturally dominant. This is more apparent when you look back in history when not the guitar but the banjo was most common, and hence banjo players would play four-string tenor guitars as a novelty... and of course we have a six-string guitar banjo today. These instruments never quite arrive at what they set out to do, ending up in a kind of pastiche. I love them exayctly for this sillyness, but when you are a serious artist trying to express your truest feelings, this kind of silly is probably not what you are looking for.

It's actually called an electric-sitar, even if it's based on a guitar for western equal temperament purposes, you have no bridge but a jawari creating the buzz-sound instead and drone strings with sympathetic resonance, so it's not a guitar

From Thomann website, "Note: As a standard tuning we recommend the 6 normal strings on dropped-D and the sympathetic strings on D7sus - (D, F#, G, A, C, A, G, F#, G, A, C, D, D)". I am guess this gentleman has a whole step up since he state is using Esus4 chord.

Three things I hate in this instrument are 1: the bridge has sharp edges 2: If you wear a strap, it's so damn bad to play because the neck is actually pointing down when it's resting on shoulder 3: the pickguard and the harp bridge pinches your arm between them. All of those can be fixed but I really hate them
