  • Welcome to Pedal Playhouse! Today, we're exploring the Danelectro Sitar Guitar Reissue, a unique and innovative instrument originally created in 1967. We'll start with an unboxing, then delve into its history and how to play the sitar guitar. If you can play the guitar then you can play the sitar guitar!If you can play the guitar, you can play the sitar guitar! It’s designed to be easier than the traditional sitar, as it uses standard guitar tuning, though it can also be tuned to alternative tunings like DADGAD and Drop D! With this reissue, the enchanting sounds of the sitar are brought into the realm of modern electric guitars as I put it through my pedalboard. Will it work with fuzz pedals? What other effects does this instrument love? Whether you're a guitarist looking to add a new dimension to your sound or just curious about this fascinating instrument, you're in the right place! Thank you so much for any time you spend watching this video, I really appreciate it. There are timestamps if you want to hop around and just hear sounds only, no worries I got you covered there!
    In this video, I’ll cover:
    🎸 unboxing and History: Learn about the origins of the Danelectro Sitar Guitar and its place in music history.
    🎸 Design and specs: Explore the distinct features that set this Sitar guitar apart from a regular, including its sitar-like tone and unique bridge design while still being able to play like a guitar with its fretboard and tuning.
    🎸 Sound Demonstrations: Hear the Danelectro Sitar Guitar in action through an effects pedalboard.

    Best correction I've found for neck dive is to invest in a suede guitar strap...they don't slip on the shoulder like other straps. Simplest fix.

    I’m so glad I got my Rogue sitar when I did ($200 at the time). It’s completely identical to this, as well as to the Jerry Jones version some years ago. And it’s held up over the years.

    @theuserthatishere 2 місяці тому +3

    holy crap! these are actually currently available. i hear ya, they need to be affordable because most folks are not $3k interested to try a new sound. like resonantors, i dig em but by the time you get the legit tone they are pricey. 60s supro folkstar sounds great, reissue models almost sound like a cheap thin guitar, not really resonator. reality is most sitar guitars probably get used a lot for about a week and then one might dable here and there with it, but at $799 i think it's a nice option and beautiful to look at when not on use. it's the gift that keeps on giving year around.

    • @PedalPlayhouse
      @PedalPlayhouse  2 місяці тому

      Yea, at that price point it can be something you use as a creative machine when you hit a wall with your other guitars in a way that may spark something to take back into your creative writing. At 3k I also like you couldn’t fathom that kind of investment but I always looked at them with wonder. It’s been a fun 3weeks so far and def still picking it up. I played it with an ebow last night and WISHED I thought of that for this, oh well next time next video for fun I will add it! Have a lovely day ❤

    I like the sounds out of this thing. For sitar sounds, I've been using one of the modelling options on the Shuriken. But this is nice as it has those sympathetic strings that hold so much promise and possible fun.
    May pick one up for that price.
    Thanks for the demo!

    • @PedalPlayhouse
      @PedalPlayhouse  2 місяці тому

      Oooo I didn’t know about the modeling version, Thank you so much Zen! I wonder how it would sound combined with the sitar guitar even, would it give it further character 🤔 that is an idea. Yea the possibilities in learning how to play those along with the fretboard I definitely want to spend time exploring if I can accomplish it well with practice. For the price agreed it’s a fun instrument to explore creatively the what ifs of sound you could possibly make with music 😊

    • @PedalPlayhouse
      @PedalPlayhouse  2 місяці тому

      I at first thought you meant a modeling plugin 🤦 I see it’s a guitar now, is yours the longer scale length baritone style? I assume that would be kool with the modeling I’ll look more into this now as I’m intrigued haha thanks again

    I've been eyeballing getting this for quite some time... you posted this about the same time I faved several on Reverb! (Hard to bite the bullet when I own an actual sitar and have very little storage space left for guitars... but I could see myself using this far, far more often than I use the sitar)

    • @PedalPlayhouse
      @PedalPlayhouse  2 місяці тому +1

      Which ones did you fav? Specific color? I too eyed these for a while, even the baby sitar the year before. I can see where you’re coming from having an actual sitar I can only imagine set up takes more time when you just want to get to creating music/playing. I showed my father this weekend on a visit and out of all my guitars I’ve ever brought for him to play them he played the sitar guitar far longer. It was fun hearing Aerosmith on it and other riffs haha ya it doesn’t matter what you play there is a very fun aspect to it and that it’s a guitar yet still different. I’m glad my video was helpful and timely AudioAstronaut! 🫡

    • @theaudioastronaut
      @theaudioastronaut 2 місяці тому

      @@PedalPlayhouse I like the red crackle, but I already got a red burst Danelectro 59x12 12-string, so I was actually leaning toward that white crackle you have.
      What regular sitar allows very well is dramatic bend/vibrato action. But it has movable frets (not super easy to tune and keep in tune), and the sympathetic strings are VERY hard to tune. It would be nice to get the sitar sound with the simplicity, familiarity, and tunings of a guitar.
      Probably my next purchase!

    • @PedalPlayhouse
      @PedalPlayhouse  2 місяці тому

      @@theaudioastronautI totally get that as a reason to not get another Red color instrument, I saw the black crackle first at NAMM and almodt was the one I was going for but then saw the White and same reaction towards it.
      Thank you for sharing your experience on playing Sitar as it’s not something I’ve ever been in proximity of but was always fascinated by. That would make sense with moving parts it being a dedicated effort to keep it in tune might lean you towards a simpler way of getting similar sounds. If you do get one I hope it is exactly what you’d hope it would be for you ❤

      @@PedalPlayhouse I think the trick is that if you strum, don’t let the chords ring out and sustain all the time. Try working similarly to how a funk guitarist might strum, ie use bar chords and release pressure on your fretting hand occasionally to “kill” or dampen the chords. And the sympathetic stings can work with you or against depending on the chord sequences you use, but you can always silence those strings.

    I hate being a left handed guitar player (especially since I felt like I had no choice in the matter, being a switch hand person depending on activity, and never being comfortable with right handed guitars no matter how hard I tried), because apparently we don’t deserve access to instruments like this.

      I have friends who are lefties and are guitarist/bassists and always feel bad when I see through them that you lefties have such lack of access to guitars. I’m sorry it’s not fair, there should be more effort to fix that.

    On a sitar, the sympathetic strings are underneath or to the side of the main strings, so I'm wondering how the danelectro sympathetics get triggered so far away without having to strum them. (Cool video! ❤)

    • @PedalPlayhouse
      @PedalPlayhouse  2 місяці тому +2

      They are to the side of the main 6 strings strings. Reverberation of the strings transfers according to what’s said about the design thought behind adding them. The bodies hollow and light weight so it carries reverberation better along to the strings

    I had a '59M Danelectro NOS version type guitar that had a metal u-shaped plate that you could place onto pins on the bridge to make it sound like a Sitar. The metal plate barely contacted the strings to make that sound. Unfortunately, I sold it in 1970. I haven't been able to find any info on it, though.

      The only effect pedal style you didn't use is the EHX Ravish. Lol. I understand the Dano sitar pedal is considered one of the worst pedals ever. Someday I hope to be able to be competent on using the Ravish, however it may. Be more practical and faster to get one of these. Thanks for the thorough review.

      @@SuperOhdannyboyI had the ravish as one of the first pedal I EVER rented! Pedalgenie was cheaper back then as a program. It def was not something to try as your first effects pedal at all but takes a bit of time to learn how to use and I admit I was not patient enough for back then haha! Thanks for watching Dannyboy and sharing your ravish experience as the mention of the ravish took me way back. I have not tried the Danelectro Sitar pedal but I’ve other people use it so I agree with you 😆 it’s not easy to get sitar sounds in pedal form unfortunately tho it probably would have been funny to stack sitar on sitar right? Yeaa that was a missed opportunity there. I also used a ebow on this sitar guitar after posting this video and I wished I included it! 😩 next video I play effects pedals in I’ll def add it in as well as the sitar guitar along with my other guitars as a sample.
