Nice. Fan since Green Tambourine and Cry Like A Baby (Vinnie both times, i believe) but never saw one in use.
Ok, Steve Howe may have used one for Yessongs at Winterland and Pat may have used one for Travels at The Berkeley Amphitheater but too far away to see what was happening.

I used to roll up a dollar bill between my strings and the bridge humbucker on my Samick strat as a kid. A $20 if I wanted to sound more exoensive. Had no idea I was reinventing this.

I know Redbone had an electric sitar, but I don't know if it was this or the "baby" without the drone harp.
Just for the record... Those drone strings, Vincent Bell himself was seen strumming them in some studio session recording... And there are a few 70's songs, where I actually heard that sounds being used. Just slipped my mind of which songs, But when I hear it again, I will edit this comment with by referencing those tracks.

yes; and one the more rare uses of it, for a "stand-alone" solo, and not just a riff/hook, as in most of the other "famous" uses of it ("Games People Play"/"Band of Gold"/"Come and Get Your Love"/"Cat's in The Cradle"/"Wrapped Around Your Finger" etc.)......actually, "Band of Gold" (Freda Payne) DOES also have a (comparatively) short sitar solo,,,,,

Do you ever have to tune or replace the drone strings? If so, what do you replace them with? Never seen a pack of Ernie Ball electric sitar drone strings 🤔
They recommend you use all tens for the sympathetic strings but you don't have to change them very often. Unless they really get corroded or break, which is seldom.

I think Nick did a video on another one of these a few years ago, it's regular strings, the drones are all the same gauge of cut down strings.
I think Chibson makes a set.
Just regular ol' guitar strings.
The drones are all tens. The other six are whatever you like
