What humanizes a villain so much that you root for them is what makes you blind to the fact that at the end of the day, they are still a bad guy. Vic was that very thing that was blinded by the humanity and it cost him…
@ correct I think what this show handled so correctly that thankfully did not send it off the rails is that it didn’t try to humanize Oz too much to the point where you start to think that the show was actually turning him into a more good guy. I always expected that he was still going to come out of a villain, but I was hoping they didn’t make him good enough to where you would root for him the whole time. After what he did to Vic, it is all out the window.
Reminded me lots of Tony Soprano. You would find yourself rooting for him constantly only to get these rough reminders what a monster he and other mobsters are.
He's a fucking psychopath. He's not right. He's broken and we were never meant to be on his side. We were Vic in this series and we were betrayed. That shit is wild, man.
I audibly gasped when he killed Vic but that’s the brilliance of this series because him killing Vic makes absolute sense and is consistent with Oz’s character from the beginning. He only cares about his mom and nothing else. I want Batman to beat the shit out of Oz now lol
he doesn't care about his mom either. or like Sofia said, "not enough". he's forcing her to live like a vegetable after he promised her he'd euthanize her.
Nope he doesn’t even care about his mom. He only cares about himself. His mom made him promise to kill her if she became a vegetable. He wanted her to be in the penthouse because He wanted that. So even though she is miserable as long as he can say “I” got you the penthouse Ma.
Penguin is not just a great comic book show, its a MASTERPIECE. How it plays with your head, emotions, let you sympathize for crooks, he just dispose of him when he doesnt need him anymore like trash and takes his money. Its cruel, and its oz and sofia was right for that. We almost forgot that penguin was a villain and he is a sociopath, and they just made one of the greatest villain in a real world right there. And it makes me feel so not at ease, its BRILLIANT. The writing, the dialogues, the acting is on another level. Im still shooked, what a great tv show. It deserves a lot of awards already. And i hope the viewers will grow as people talk about it.
There’s no competition, this is the most terrifying, formidable, devious, and ABSOLUTELY DESPICABLE version of The Penguin that has ever been made! Please give us The Batman 2 already so we can get more of Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, and please have Batman beat him so fucking badly that he winds up somehow even more disfigured. For Victor! Also I’m so relieved that Sofia survived. While I hate that she’s living a fate worse than death ending up back in Arkham (which honestly practically is hell), she now knows that she has a sister in Selina Kyle. And I absolutely believe that Selina will try to find some way to get her sister out of Arkham.
I never rooted for the penguin, I rooted for the penguin Vic saw. I was literally saying that b4 he got **. Vic was the only character that saw Good in Penguin, hence I saw good in the Penguin. It is a brilliant show, I did not expect it to end like that for Vic
Good writing. I expected Vic getting betrayed because it was the only explicit way of showing the audience that Oz is a villlain, not a simple criminal or a man with sins, but a Batman villain. Oz showed multiple times that he was able of having empathy, but he just didnt care if it was about an obstacle for getting what he thinks he deserves. That's why I was like, okay he won't have trouble betraying Vic, that's his last act to show the audience that he's a villlain.
First i had hope he would work underground for him. When i saw sofia didnt kill him… or his mom and they were sitting in told myself.. fuck hes the one whos gonna do it
I have to say I saw it coming too, even before we found out that he killed his brothers. Betrayal is in his nature. He's a full on psychopath, this version of the Penguin. No redeeming aspects whatsoever. The 😈
Yup so many weasel scumbag things penguin did throughout already told me he was a straight villain. Like when he was telling Sofia how he was sorry and really cared about her but then 2 sec later is throwing her under the bus to save his own skin.
What made Vic's death so horrible is that it wasn't a quick bullet to the head he didn't see coming. It was a slow death where he had time to beg Penguin for his life and was getting killed by a guy he looked up to and trusted. Oh I hate it! Where is a Lazarus pit when you need it!!
The ending with Vic was so crucial; made my stomach turn. That’s absolutely insane what he did to his mother as well. I cannot believe “how” he did it to Vic too; it was slow.

Also i think since Oz saw himself in Vic he needed to kill that part of himself also. Its so tragic and brilliant and pissing me off. Fuck i love this show.
Earlier in the season, penguin mentions that his mom is the only thing keeping any good in him. As soon as she’s pretty much gone, he loses all that good and realizes he can’t have attachment to anyone. Incredible series.
I'm glad Sofia survived, favorite character of the show. Greenlighting this show was the best thing they could have done for this iteration of the Batman universe.
Show runner Lauren LeFranc said that Colin Farrell sent her “The Ballad Of Reading Gaol” by Oscar Wilde, and in it one of the quotes is “A great or little thing” and it’s about how each man destroys the thing he loves. So she thought it was a perfectly apt title for this shocking finale. She always thought of this show as a tragedy to its core, and goddamnit if it isn’t one of the most tragic endings of any tv series I’ve ever seen!
Man I hate Oz sooo much. He’s sooo despicable. But this is the feeling I wanted to have toward him in the end. That set in for before Vic, particularly letting his mom get tortured and still refusing to tell truth. Masterpiece of a finale.
Victor's death was so hard to watch. Such a loyal character. This series is a masterpiece, but I don’t think they had to kill off Vic for the audience to see Oz as the villain. It would’ve been cool to see his progression as a gangster 😎💯
I hate what they did to Victor but I totally get it. He represents how much a life of crime can take from you. It may look flashy from the outside, to be someone, to have money, to have purpose, but in the end, it only takes. We see that throughout the season. He starts by stealing rims to survive. A relatively victimless crime, nobody gets hurt. Then, he reluctantly joins with Oz and is forced to do some heinous things like cutting up Alberto’s corpse and pinning it on Maroni. Then, he gets caught up in the drug trade and helps push Bliss. Then, he starts to get his hands dirty like roughing up Taj Maroni. Then, he’s forced to kill a man. And finally, after crime has taken its toll on his heart and soul, he ends up nothing more than a nameless corpse next to a lake, with no money to his name. Remembered by nobody.
This show was so brilliant. I almost don’t want a season 2 just because I don’t know how you can top this without watering it down……and yes it sucks about Vic but this show never let you believe for long that Oz was some anti hero……he’s the villain and now everyone hates that dude heading in to the Batman 2. I knew Vic wasn't making it out of this season, but that scene still broke my heart. This show is so dang good and that Bat Signal was the cherry on top.
Finally a show that made the villains be exactly what they should be villains. Too many people want villains to be anti heroes no they are villains. You are suppose to hate them not root for them. He got penguin right
And there’s such insane irony in the fact that Vic plants the seed in Oz’s head to go the route of pursuing politics to work the angle of controlling the downtrodden. Whereas Vic was honest about Oz inspiring people and thought he saw the good in him, Oz truly is an evil sociopath. Vic’s ending was a tragedy - I was really hoping he’d survive and become Robin.
Well all want the Batman to bring vengeance to Oz’s world. Batman is the true hero of this world. Jesus, the Batman 2 is set up so damn well. Box office juggernaut incoming
"How clean is a whistle" 😅 That's been living rent free in my head since the old Ghostbusters Cartoon. Ray: Clean as a whistle. Egon: "...exactly how clean IS a whistle?"
And the rise to power for Oz when he's in the courtroom is still him lying to benefit himself and get in a better position, and the best thing, he's gotta dress like a million dollars, clean. Getting more like the Penguin as we know him
The entire series I kept screaming at my tv, "Do something to make me hate him," because I really liked Oz, and they finally did it in this episode. Now I'm really looking forward to seeing batman take him down!! 😱🤯
I love that they keep him a villain... don't get it twisted this isn't a good guy. I'm genuinely curious if he believes the lies he tells... the scene with his Ma was really having me question if the TRULY believes in the lies he spins lol.
Which betrayal is worse? Sending Sofia back to Arkham even after admitting he found it deplorable Carmine subjected her to that? Killing Vic after all of the situations that Vic bailed him out of? Or leaving his mother as a vegetable even after he promised her he wouldn't let that happen to her?
Easily his mother. She explicitly asked not to be left as a vegetable and is now bing tortured endlessly. Sofia was revenge. She left Oz with knowing his mom hates him so he put her back in Arkham. They both left each other with fates worse than death.
Perfection!! A master class from everyone in every department. Oz throwing Vic's ID into the water - and it slowly sinking to represent what happened to his family in the flood.....so many of these subtle nods and callbacks. Hands down the best show of the year.
I wonder if anyone else had this thought… the relationship of Oz and Vic started like Walt and Jesse from Breaking Bad, and ended like Tony and Christopher from The Sopranos.
Good for Rhenzy Feliz on holding on to that spoiler in interviews. It must've been hard for him, especially when many wanted him to carry over to The Batman 2....great performance, hope it opens so many doors for other roles for him.
I'm Irish ☘️ we've had some great 🦇 villains but I knew Colin and this show and villain would be amazing even before it started. He did us proud wow what and ending! Poor Vic though. Oz 🐧 is ruthless Batman has some villain on his hands. What a legendary performance from all the cast deserve every award going buzzin for TBM2 hopefully Scarecrow is in it as king of the drop heads and add 2 Face into the mix something tells me that politician guy becomes 2 Face!!
Imagine Vic haunting Oz like Joker haunted Batman in Arkham Knight? Maybe we see Oz under a scarecrow serum and he sees Vic then. Imagine that emotional impact?
Incredible show from start to finish. There are only a handful of good comic book shows and this one is definitely one of them. Everyone was firing on all cylinders. Fantastic stuff.
So pumped to hear someone else refer to the councilman as Billy Walsh because that’s the all I think of everytime I see him. Not that that’s a bad thing!😂💝
Oz promised his mom he wouldn't let her live once her mind was gone. Her being in that room and rolling that tear was so heavy. He took Vic's life, and is forcing hid mother to stay alive. Her existence is torture, that he promised she wouldn't experience. He really is the devil.
One thing I havnt seen many people comment on about the choice for Penguin to kill Vic, I think it leaves his showdown with Batman as the only bit of Penguins arc left. Im not sure I want a season two. Unlike Game of Thrones which had an expansive cast we could care about, we are left with Penguin in this and now hes killed Vic...we know hes capable of anything. Theres no shock value left to add, just the curiosity of how he will meet his fate with Batman. Yes, there could be a shift from mafia show to explicit political thriller about and out and out monster gaining political power but im not sure if that show would entertain us because of the season finale, I dont think we can be routing for the Penguin any more as we have been throughout this season. For that reason I do think it is sensible to handle Penguins future through Batman, either in the film or on TV, rather than another Penguin focused series like this one.
Vic's death was easily the hardest death I've ever had to watch in cinema history. They made you love him just to have him strangled, robbed of his cash, and his ID thrown in the river like he's just another nobody. Holy hell I love this show, but fuck. I hate Oz.
Show is so good by the end I literally said “The Batman NEEDS to stop this menace” The Penguin has always been slimy - but they always played it more for comedy - this series plays it for horror. That last 10 minutes was creepy as fuck.
28:57 Yep, at this point I flipped on Oz….but that is what is great about this show man….had you feeling for the complete villain and then take it back to hating him.
It is so rare to get such a well written villain, that when it happens, it stands out. Heaths Joker, The grandest of thanos, the layers to Loki, and now Colin adds the penguin to the pantheon of great antagonists. Batman needs to make him hurt.
I like how Oz is kinda how Joker told those guys in Dark Knight to eliminate competition after taking out Gamble. In this way, Oz corners Sofia and leaves her with pretty much nothing, and he rises to power. The thing with his mother is kinda like Mr. Freeze considering how colr Os has become, ba dum tsss Also, I just started watching Sopranos the first time yesterday. Wouldn't have thought about it if you hadn't mentioned the parallels.
That Vic Death felt eerily similar to Catcher and the Rye with them staring off in the Gotham skyline and having that last drink together before Penguin kills him. He used him like a snot rag the entire time. Even using Vic’s speech to Penguin to convince the congressman to understand how loved he can be by the people of Gotham for taking down Sophia Falcone. Very well written series! Bravo! 👏🏾
This is a limited series, it will continue in The Batman Part 2, they went with the show in order to fully explain this side plot of the Batman sequel. Matt Reeves did well with that choice
@@alpha4IV I think they’re gonna keep this franchise going, focus on more villain driven proyects, since now Batman is gonna be on the new DCU and Pattinson has 2 more films

It's impossible for the actors playing batman to be as interesting as the villains. This show was amazing
The entire series I kept screaming at my tv, "Do something to make me hate him," because I really liked Oz, and they finally did it in this episode.
Now I'm really looking forward to seeing batman take him down!!
😱🤯
Great reaction Kristian! To say I loved that show is an understatement!
I love that they keep him a villain... don't get it twisted this isn't a good guy. I'm genuinely curious if he believes the lies he tells... the scene with his Ma was really having me question if the TRULY believes in the lies he spins lol.
This episode what the first time I asked “where tf is Batman” lmaooo
I'm gonna comfort myself with the thought that Sofia might be in The Batman 2....
Bro I hope penguin finishes her in season 2 or in the batman part 2
What if bruce buys the Falcone house Sophia burnt down and makes it the Wayne Manor?
Damn.. what an episode.. Brutal...
16:37 "Shawn Maroni... give it up!" 🤣🤣🤣
This was traumatizing to watch!😢
"they humanized him you feel bad for him"
Hard cut to Oz and Vic on that bench 😬
Fantastic show! Great season finale. I can’t wait to watch The Batman 2.
That was FUN! Great breakdowns Kristian! Thanks 🎉
He should get nominated for an Oscar...all the awards even a grammy!
@pyroblast3000 Yeah he's getting better at acting he was amazing in TBM 🦇 so had a feeling this would be epic.
That’s one of my favorite shows of all time. Loved it
I hope rhenzy feliz gets work for the rest of his life. His acting was so good.
Imagine Vic haunting Oz like Joker haunted Batman in Arkham Knight? Maybe we see Oz under a scarecrow serum and he sees Vic then. Imagine that emotional impact?
This whole episode was better than Nolans trilogy
Man that reaction to Vic was great… when you were sounding hopeful I was like, “Just wait, Kristian…”
What a fucking ending
“You could have sold it Sophia.”
“It’s not about money. It’s about sending a message. Everything burns!”
Best show since the wire, theyre winning awards , mark my words
I thought Colin Farrell was impressive in The Batman, but he is in a whole other category in this show. Might be the greatest acting I’ve ever seen.
oz saying his mom looking at something is hilarious. lol
Colin Farrell Deserve Oscar 🤩♥️🎩🐧
It's fitting he got everything he wanted but not the one thing he always wanted.
Vic's death was easily the hardest death I've ever had to watch in cinema history. They made you love him just to have him strangled, robbed of his cash, and his ID thrown in the river like he's just another nobody. Holy hell I love this show, but fuck. I hate Oz.
quadruple somersault with triple twist, perfect landing ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ all the players/actors are amazing
He is a straight up villain 😭
Nah, a Super Villian
It is so rare to get such a well written villain, that when it happens, it stands out. Heaths Joker, The grandest of thanos, the layers to Loki, and now Colin adds the penguin to the pantheon of great antagonists. Batman needs to make him hurt.
I like how Oz is kinda how Joker told those guys in Dark Knight to eliminate competition after taking out Gamble. In this way, Oz corners Sofia and leaves her with pretty much nothing, and he rises to power.
The thing with his mother is kinda like Mr. Freeze considering how colr Os has become, ba dum tsss
Also, I just started watching Sopranos the first time yesterday.
Bravo! 👏🏾
Best Batman related story on film? I think this made a strong statement for that title. So emotional. Justice for Vic.
For season 2 I want Vic to be Penguin's own Red Hood. Have Vic not Batman tear all of Cob's empire down.
This is a limited series, it will continue in The Batman Part 2, they went with the show in order to fully explain this side plot of the Batman sequel. Matt Reeves did well with that choice
@ Success leads to sequels, & it seems they finally learned the lesson of you don't kill a "good" villain to keep the door open for any possibility.
@@alpha4IV I think they’re gonna keep this franchise going, focus on more villain driven proyects, since now Batman is gonna be on the new DCU and Pattinson has 2 more films
Sorry 🤣😂
Yeah He's Dead, this ain't no fantastical world like the one Gunn's making, so no Lazarus pit to bring victor back lol
All I’m saying is…. Can you imagine if Book of Boba Fett was like this?
When you change a Marseratti for a Rolls Royce, you did make it to the final boss status!
Every time Oz had alone time with Vic I always thought he would die. Dang had a feeling when that guy said he had to clean corruptions that he have change his image that he was going get rid of anybody associated with the dirt he done. Great show
