@@onetwo-in4mhwell considering the show is about the Penguins rise to power and the mob families in The Batman, I'd say it did its job well. Batman showing up would have caved in a lot of the story because then there's the whole "where have you been this entire time?" That would just sink the story and turn it into Batman 1.5. It was smart of them to avoid Batman to keep the story grounded and believable that there's more stuff going on behind the scenes than just what you ever see from Bats POV.
You're wrong again. Oz is the devil, and by letting him live, she essentially made a deal with the devil. Hence, in the end, she gets what she wants but not like she envisioned. 14:55
As soon as I felt the relief like “they’re out of the shit, they made it together” then I hear that resolution music and I was like “oh no this isn’t going to end well is it”
Oz told you exactly why he killed Vic. If Vic had called him, “a great Boss” instead of “like family,” he’d probably still be alive. Oz had already killed his actual brothers, so of course he killed his new brother (Vic).
Ong I was thinking the same thing. I was like Vic you bein to vulnerable with this monster rn. It’s over for you buddy. I didn’t know it was the finale yet so I didn’t think oz would just choke bro out right there. Had to pause and jus sit there for a second and catch my breath
It was irrelevant at that point; Vic had seen too much. He’d seen Oz vulnerable, his secrets. Oz basically said he can’t risk that kind of liability anymore “with where I’m going” to Vic before he did it So whether Vic saw Oz as boss or family didn’t matter, it’s what Vic’s knowledge and presence could be used against Oz in the future / would be a source of weakness Additionally, Oz was more of a Father figure than a Brother to Vic
Whats the most messed up part i feel like everyone is going to overlook is how he didnt fufill his mothers wishes, being stuck to rot in her own body, being constantly lied to by her own som. He promised her he’d put her out of her misery but instead of being locked in her own house all day by herself, she’s now paralyzed for the rest of her life awaiting for death to come take her. That is really really dark.
For me that's what I thought about first when she became a vegetable. I was hoping he killed her in the house but he obviously didn't. They pushed hard as possible that he has no redeemable traits. Great episode.
"You'll hate him" yup. If not for escaping Sophia he was having a total narcissistic collapse while getting called out finally after like 40 years. Her being a bedridden, non-speaking confidant to his hubris is just another level of Oz's misery, delusion, and cruelty. He will be the praised good son even if it destroys Gotham.
Imagine , she will live in suffering for thé rest of her life because her son is a psycho with a huge ego And also don’t forget Vic decided to not go with his girlfriend when she took the buss because he was loyal to Oz Man Oz really is the Devil, I don’t know how Matt Reeves is gonna make The Joker who is supposed to be the worse villain more cruel than this
It may have been revenge for the things she said to him and then stabbing him. Living as a vegetable was the one thing she didn't want. We see that with a tear at the end from her. Same with Sophia. Killing her would have been letting her off easy. Putting her back in the asylum was more punishment in his mind.
She’s just as evil as he is. Evil begets evil. She was gonna have him clipped and agreed to sell her soul for riches and a penthouse on his promise. This is all her own fault. Both can be true
Everyone thought Vic wasnt going to make it. When it actually happened, people were still shocked. If Collin Farrell doesn't win for best actor, its rigged.
In the moments leading up to Vic’s death I was thinking about how Matt Reeves said we aren’t supposed to like Oz by the end of the series. Needless to say, Matt Reeves was right. Need Batman like now.
@@greekyoungbuckI was fully team Oz until he offed Vic personally. Hes the pure underdog who weasels his way out of every situation, its impossible not to like him or root for him, you're literally meant to
@@aleemizcool3654 I disagree he was obviously horrible with what he did to his brothers and showed no remorse for it. And he lied to his mom's grave and just in general showed delusion. Even the scene with his mom at the hospital although I felt bad for him because it was his mom I felt more bad for his mom. That opener in the club is where I realized what I think you realized which is this dude is horrible. The Vic moment was definitely sad since I felt like his charcter peaked with putting the gun to Sofia’s head. But by the time we got outside I new it was up. Dude killed his brothers and showed no remorse which I think is the moment everyone realized what his character is. With that being said knowing what I know now I'm still team OZ at least with this series because seeing a villan win is always a good time. Different feelings great show.
Did anyone else notice that one of the last things Oz said to Vic "You are a good man Vic" mirrors back to the 3rd episode about Vic having doubts about the life and what his family would have thought of him
Him keeping his immobilized, unable to speak mother alive just to hear his delusions is just icing on the shit cake that is Penguin. However, Colin Farrel deserves a fucking Emmy because you could see the Narc Collapse happening while Sophia was exposing what a wretch he really is, and even his own mother always knew he is.
@@GabagoolGang Exactly, that's my point, all these people saying that he believes his own lies, that he showed his worst version, are failing to see that he always knew what he was doing, lying, and that his worst version is only his real version. I really like how vic barely even stuttered at the end, like when he stood up to the gangs. It really shows how far he came in this world and how he grew his confidence. Im so devastated that he died like that and am now a #1 penguin hater. 10/10 show for me.
The minute I saw Oz crossing the street wearing a tuxedo and carrying a top hat I had a huge smile on my face. I just wish he at least wore it for a few minutes.😅 The look of the Building of the old Monroe building is looking more like a replacement for the Iceberg Lounge. Hell even the final shot of the batsignal in the background looked like something out of a batman comic. Just a great ending. 👌 This show only increases my excitement for The Batman Part II.
I am 100% on board if this is The Batman>The Penguin>2Bat2Man>Frozen>The Batman 3. Seems Catwoman will probably break Sophia out of Arkham. I think Rush is being set up as the Mad Hatter later
Makes sense, maybe if he survives he will come back as the psycho he should be and his story will Oz will prove to him that nobody can like him and there is no one for him in this world so he will decide to just kill everyone, and Matt Reeves did say in The Batman 2 we might see alot of villains, so he might appear as a new version of himself in The Batman2, IF it is the Vic we all think about ofc
And the really cool thing to me is like what is so drastic to use the bat signal now? All the gang wars didn’t, so what is so dire that now it’s being used? That intrigue has me so hyped for batman 2!
The consistency of this world is so tight between this show, the movie, and Paul Dano’s Riddler comic. The more you dig into the Renewal conspiracy, or just how much the actions of Carmine & Thomas Wayne created this entire web of characters, the more details you’ll find.
Penguin a cold mofo I had a feeling he was going to kill Vic at the end when his mom was a vegetable this way he doesn't have a weakness his enemies can exploit nobody is that close to him
Thats exactly what i thought too she was the last part of his transformation to the true penguin but still suked to see vic die ir did he??🤨gonna be his arch enemy😂
100% on point for Penguin. Remember, he recruited Vic into a life of crime at gunpoint, later Vic reveals he feels hes being held hostage. Penguin gaslights him more into a father/son analog, and keeps doing that. Up to Vic's final minute, he bought Penguin's bullshit hook line and sinker, because as Oz's top hero Rex points out, men without families will latch on to scumbags like them for a purpose.
@@breach005i still don't think ir was that cut and dry though. Oz DID care about Vic, he meant a lot to him and that is precisely why he got rid of him, even when Vic left, Oz was genuinely hurt by it and when he is talking to Sophia he's riled up and emotional because his hurt carried into the next scene. Oz KNEW Vic made him too vulnerable...Farrel and the showrunner also allude to this heavily after the shpw wrapped up
This show I think did an amazing job showing Oz work up from minnow to Megalodon, a villain worthy of not only Batman but Bruce Wayne too which is really fun. It seems the 2nd film will center around the power vacuum in the Broken City, now swallowed in the cold
His scowl is just so cool man, with the scarred up face. When hes holding Sofia at gunpoint he looked so cool. I was hoping so much he'd put on the tophat at the end
There was one moment he actually stuttered just like Vic does when truly nervous, blink and you'll miss it, while begging for his Mothers life. The Emmy should be for that alone, wow. And that is in an embarrassment of great performances

@@BigAl455 Indeed. Those other crime bosses were killed by trusted lieutenants they let their guard down around. Oz knew he could never risk having someone he could ever trust to have his back, because that's the guy who could potentially turn on him. I f you never trust anybody, nobody can betray you.
Masterclass in writing. Oz is a deplorable murderer and drug kingpin, but legit fights for Crown Point too. This is very much modeled after Alphonse Capone which was very much part of this thing as a man of his neighborhood while committing crime elsewher. Cobb is extremely charismatic, a way to make up for his deformities otherwise, but uses this to gaslight and manipulate you too. He even gaslight his own mother to his murders. You can see maybe Oz in another life would have been Batman too.
I like the attention to detail in this series from the Penguin driving a purple Maserati with his fast life to a purple Bentley being more sophisticated aiming to get into politics.
This show as a masterpiece, at one point I forgot about Batman, this is the angle and way they should keep dc dark realistic and gritty We want more character shows

Spot on! I didn’t think about Batman at all throughout the show. It was so good! At the end when he killed Vic was I had to be reminded that Oz is not a good guy.
DC shouldn’t be completely realistic and gritty. While certain aspects of the universe can benefit from that tone, I’m glad James Gunn is going for a more fantastical DC universe that fully embraces every aspect of the comics. The last thing we need is another dark and gritty Superman film, for example. DC is more than just Batman and Gotham City and even those have fantastical elements that should be explored.
That episode hit hard! They really stuck the landing. And Vic’s death was one of those things that you thought might come, but still kicked your ass when it happened. And thank you Heavy Spoilers for another fantastic breakdown
This show is ultimately about not becoming a naive dumbass. Sorry, but Vic was a naive dumbass (tragically pushed into a life of crime ya yah he's dead). However, that is perfectly what Rex was talking about when recruiting.
I cried wayyy too much during the finale. The true painful moments for me, with any scene with Francis needing to be taken into consideration, but Sofia getting sent back to Arkham and Victor’s death were possibly the two moments that broke me the most. This ep only proves everything, and everyone, are just wood for Oz's fireplace. It always was, he's an evil POS and always has been since 10 years old. Last few scenes really make me hope Batman heelchecks that fat nose
Oz did everything for himself, he likes to tell he did it for his mom but it's all a lie. At least Walter White had the decency to admit it. Oz is a terrible person and an egoist.
This show was to comic book-related movies as Andor was to Star Wars. It really elevated a silly concept and character to a higher dramatic level. One of the best shows in recent memory.
What Francine said about Oz "I brought the devil into my house..." that was a gut-wrenching and for her she realized her son was gone and their was no saving for him. It reminds me of the movie "The Good Son" starring Macaulay Culkin with Oswald Cobblepot where he is literally a monster and just progressed in being a bad person, becoming the full fledged criminal. Then having Eve Karlo dress up like his mom and telling her to tell him he is a winner says he is far gone and no turning back.
Its hard for me as a single man now more less to imagine "sorry, your child is the most serious POS that ever existed" and being forced to go along with it basically.
I knew it. The instant he said, "You're like family," I fucking knew it was over😔 I know that Oz is not a good person but I was hoping he would give him a chance
Earth One Batman is so good, I loved seeing the refeneces to it in The Batman and this show- a masterclass on respecting the source material despite tinkering with some of the elements

Wrong. 5/10. IGN said so.
@@BaneofBalor I know you're joking but ppl need to stop caring at all what IGN has to say. I thought ppl would have figured that out by now lol.
@thephilosopher7173 The problem is most people aren't aware of it and just see their reviews and base their judgements on that
@@onetwo-in4mhwell considering the show is about the Penguins rise to power and the mob families in The Batman, I'd say it did its job well.
Exactly I keep thinking back like dam she really did make a deal with the devil
Spot on.🎯
And she dances with the ‘devil’ once he asks for a dance and she accepts it

I am SO sad about Vic. Like we all saw it coming but he had such a great arc. Was hoping to see more of him in the future. 😢

Vics death was a gut punch, going to be sad about his death for a minute
he was blindly loyal.
It hurt, but it shows how Oz is willing to do anything to get to the top
What’s sad is that you felt him dying and it felt like penguin was choking you with Vic
@@reddays8448 exactly how I felt... couldn't breathe... only think "WTF"
@@reddays8448good explanation…I can’t sleep now 😢
Oz told you exactly why he killed Vic. If Vic had called him, “a great Boss” instead of “like family,” he’d probably still be alive. Oz had already killed his actual brothers, so of course he killed his new brother (Vic).
Linc told his ass about them words 🤣😂
Ong I was thinking the same thing. I was like Vic you bein to vulnerable with this monster rn. It’s over for you buddy. I didn’t know it was the finale yet so I didn’t think oz would just choke bro out right there. Had to pause and jus sit there for a second and catch my breath
He told him in first episode - he'll keep him as long as he can use him.
Fratricide or Siblicide or Cainism.
It was irrelevant at that point; Vic had seen too much. He’d seen Oz vulnerable, his secrets. Oz basically said he can’t risk that kind of liability anymore “with where I’m going” to Vic before he did it
So whether Vic saw Oz as boss or family didn’t matter, it’s what Vic’s knowledge and presence could be used against Oz in the future / would be a source of weakness
Additionally, Oz was more of a Father figure than a Brother to Vic
Any sympathy for Penguin completely went outside the window watching this
"You'll hate him" and somehow I hate him more than that lol. The Batman has work to do

“Nothing is standing in your way now” meanwhile Jim and Batman “you sure about that?”
The Batsymbol in the sky ''Well your time is already over pal"
Imagine , she will live in suffering for thé rest of her life because her son is a psycho with a huge ego
And also don’t forget Vic decided to not go with his girlfriend when she took the buss because he was loyal to Oz
Man Oz really is the Devil, I don’t know how Matt Reeves is gonna make The Joker who is supposed to be the worse villain more cruel than this
It may have been revenge for the things she said to him and then stabbing him.
Were you liking him pre the Vic death?
He really wasn't kidding, in a way I so did not expect after so many years of bullshit drivel
@@greekyoungbuck he was never “likeable” but he was always charismatic! Charismatic people make you *want* to connect.
Did anyone else notice that one of the last things Oz said to Vic "You are a good man Vic" mirrors back to the 3rd episode about Vic having doubts about the life and what his family would have thought of him
It's crazy how he still lied to his mother with saying he didn't kill his brothers, this shows that he even believes his own lies
No he doesnt believe his lies, he literally knows that he's lying he just doesnt care.
@@bboynava1812 He would rather his mother suffer more because of what he did rather than damage her view of him in any way, pure evil.
@@GabagoolGang Exactly, that's my point, all these people saying that he believes his own lies, that he showed his worst version, are failing to see that he always knew what he was doing, lying, and that his worst version is only his real version. A letter from cat woman is crazy

Someone once mentioned that this was also Vic’s origin to becoming Zsaz. The great thing about Gotham City is that the dead can come back to life.
Makes sense, maybe if he survives he will come back as the psycho he should be and his story will Oz will prove to him that nobody can like him and there is no one for him in this world so he will decide to just kill everyone, and Matt Reeves did say in The Batman 2 we might see alot of villains, so he might appear as a new version of himself in The Batman2, IF it is the Vic we all think about ofc
uh, no
That last shot was something lmao
It feels like a nod to Batman Returns which is perfect. Batsignal’s up, the end.
The real and only character all along was Gotham itself
And the really cool thing to me is like what is so drastic to use the bat signal now? All the gang wars didn’t, so what is so dire that now it’s being used? That intrigue has me so hyped for batman 2!

@@djsmileyoflasvegasyeah, Vic is definitely dead, he didn't just strangle him, there is a little "pop" before he let's him drop.

He's an amazing musician
I think you mean Emmy. The Grammys are awards for music.

This show as a masterpiece, at one point I forgot about Batman, this is the angle and way they should keep dc dark realistic and gritty
We want more character shows

At the end when he killed Vic was I had to be reminded that Oz is not a good guy.
I...Uh..yeah just all the spin offs sounds good. If all The Batman universe is set up like this im on board
He killed vic but lets not forget he is the penguin
He did say in the first episode ''I guess i can let you live.. for now'' something like that

Also don’t forget that oz lied to Vic about who stabbed him. He says Sophia, not his mom. Kind of insinuating that oz genuinely either is in shock, or just can’t see his mom that way
He didnt accept the reality
@ and about the him killing his brothers thing being an accident. I kinda figured it was because in that same episode we can see that he looks back and the door several times, insinuating that he expected his brothers to come back at some point
he wouldn’t want to expose that his mom knew something was up with him
This ep only proves everything, and everyone, are just wood for Oz's fireplace. It always was, he's an evil POS and always has been since 10 years old. Last few scenes really make me hope Batman heelchecks that fat nose
He just refuses to believe his mom hates him and tried to kill him
Oz did everything for himself, he likes to tell he did it for his mom but it's all a lie. At least Walter White had the decency to admit it. Oz is a terrible person and an egoist.
This show was to comic book-related movies as Andor was to Star Wars. It really elevated a silly concept and character to a higher dramatic level. One of the best shows in recent memory.
The Bat - Signal still giving me chills.
Im not disappointed batman didn't show up. This series didnt need it
