Thanks for this tutorial. Was a life savior for a lyrics video I was working on which I had to deliver in a short timeline. Clear and precise information on how to generate particles from a text layer.
thanks for that, i will just add a small useful tips on this tutorial.
- using a text as emiter require tones of particules (25000 to be correct)
- using a shape do not (5000 is more than enough)
then if you need to create a thruster for example just draw a simple shape , and if you need to emit particles form a text, draw over the fonts (redraw the shape) it is a little complicated to do for sure depending on what font you choose, but you will literally divide the time of the particular simulation by 20 times.
- shape border = new color and specific particle colors, then do not forget to put the shape without border or use border colors for specific use/design.

0:51 please help everything work fine untill 0:51 , when i click and select layer light layer is not coming and particles showing only bottom right side of corner........... i did every thing same more than 3 times and i didnt make any mistake .. still its not working.. please help me

I'm trying to exactly duplicate the steps as shown, but as theguy13 stated, the text reverts back to neutral when you change the layer emitter. I tried going into the precomp and manipulating the text in 3d space but then there's some sort of disconnect with the emitter and it's not emanating from the text as shown in the tutorial, which sort of defeats the whole purpose.
i need help, on my “particular” effect, there is no show up of the designer button, it isn’t there, i don’t know why or what to do?

You could use it as a Layer Emitter just like footage or any other layer.
Problem:
Setting the layer emitter to my text layer stops its ability to linear wipe.
Yes, I went back and tried multiple times from 8:30, doing everything as in the video.
Can't get the text precomp layer to linear wipe.. at all.
I had this problem too. Linear Wipe would not operate on the 3D Precomp (or text). Not sure why? But, I did get it to work by going into the text layer itself (editing the contents of the precomp), and adding the Linear Wipe there. Text had to be 2D (not flagged as 3d). Then the Precomp (tagged as 3d) still has the Linear Wipe.

Why does my text move back to the neutral position after I change the layer emitter to text. Just in the beginning there
I believe that's because you set the layer to 3D before you pre-comp'd it. Pre-compose the layer first and then change it to a 3D layer.
NM - it reverts to neutral regardless when you select the layer.
You have to turn of "collapse transformations" in the precomp text layer when you get to 1:00 in this tutorial.
now how to do it with a obj would be awesome, while maintaining the 3d stucture and not precomping

i cant use trapcode because i am using a portable versionof after effect, i have tried so many times to install trapcode to no avail
don`t know why but My amount of particles is 5 times less then in video though the settings are same. Can`t find the answer in internet ((

Try setting your preview resolution to full if it's not already

I had same issue problem that " Emitter type " into Layer and change the "Layer Emitter " ( set the layer wanted to used into 3D ) and it appear particular at bottom right side also. My preview is in half, then change into full and it automatically fix. Really thanks you very much.
May i ask do you know why the problem been or why change it into preview full fixed the problem? I had uninstall and used old version and this problem don't happened.

so we can't have text or image directly in Trapcode Particular to apply the effects to? we have to use layers and effects in AE outside of Trapcode Particular to complete this look?
That is correct.
Some rendering features are disabled due to certain parameter settings.

Is there any way to change the particle color when using layer emitter? It inherits the color from the Layer which I understand, but I still wanna change it over time..
Do you mean like the Screen over Life setting? Or do you mean you want it to take the layer's color and then gradually change to a different color?
May I ask that why my text layer is 3d,but when emitter set to layer and layer emiiter also seclected to Text layer, the layer emitter does not show up？ Thanks
That should work. It's possible that there are some other settings that are moving things around in a way you aren't expecting.
which version of particular is that?
hello. i use particular but its also use background color and smash everything :( if background is not a black what can i do?
Beka Bechvaia, you could make this Effekt in a precomposition in the foreground, because the background Here isn‘t black, it Is transparent so your background will be visible but Will Not be effected by particular (i Hope you Can Unterstand May Bad englisch, if Not feel Free to ask)

Yes. You will have to export to a video format that supports the alpha (transparent background) layer. I like to use Cineform RGBA... partly because I also do some of my editing still in Hitfilm and it plays well with it. Plus it's a good mastering file. :) Just one option. Hope this helps!

this is not working the same way anymore.
There have been some significant updates to Particular since version 3 came out for sure! We have tutorials for the updates in newer versions on our channel.

It's outrageous that people spend so much money on this, but can't get answers to questions. I'm not even 2 minutes in and I can tell that you once again made changes to your comp that you did not show us, so now we have no idea how to replicate what you created.
This video starts with Particals already there, You should have started showing how to get to the particals. Just saying.
