    Make sure your text is PreComped, and placed below the Particular layer.

    So, I managed a workaround to get this to work. The problem I was having was that the pick whip function from the emitter wouldn't follow the Y Rotation of the text since it was a precomp. My solution was to create a text layer (non precomp) and animate the Y rotation within the same composition as the emitter. This creates a problem of disappearing 3D text for me, and so I just duplicated the non precomp layer and then precomped the duplicate. I then hid the pick whipped layer (because of the disappearing text) although the emitter is still linked to its rotation. I keep the precomped duplicate visible so the text doesn't disappear during the rotation and the emitter appears to follow the duplicate even though it's following the original non precomp text layer. I'm sure there's probably a simpler and better approach, but this was how I got it working. It seems that the pick whip function doesn't work or at least didn't work for me when trying to link it to a precomp.

    I have tried several approaches, but I can't get the pick whip function to work with the emitter. It just stays in place and doesn't follow the Y rotation of the text. I'm not sure if something changed with program updates? I am only able to get it to follow the text with manual keyframing but obviously this is more time consuming and not as accurate. Any suggestions?

    Remember: you can't obscure in particular unless the text is in its own precomp AND the movement from the text must come from the precomp layer too.
    Eh - at least I learned it.

      I'm not sure if you had this problem, but my text was disappearing on rotation and precomping it fixed that problem. So, thanks!

      @@QuyenNguyen-xm3xr Sorry about that! All I can think of: is there a point light in your comp? I am happy to help, but it will be difficult without seeing what you have.
      Make sure the text layer is in its own composition.

    Hi, would you please help me with one problem I encouter when following your tutorial?
    In that last techniques, after changing Emitter into Spot, my particular doesn't has a straight tail as yours.
    I have tried changing Velocity from motion but in vain.

    • @ryosayo
      @ryosayo 4 роки тому +1

      btw, right after switching emitter into Spot, without keyframing rotation, it keeps straight whenever I change the orientation,
      but after keyframing Y rotation, it curls.

    does this work for cam and lights imported from C4D like 3D data? For me it doesn't work. The light (named Emitter) doesn't emit any particles

      Did you solve this? I would try checking the layers order, making the light emitter first.

    • @atakancalskan
      @atakancalskan 5 років тому +1

      When you make both layers 3D in after effects, switching the layers’ order has not any effect to appear on top or bottom of the other layer (in all usual cases as I know) because you need to define the location of 3D layers in Z space to make it look in front or behind. You can think as they are in a 3D environment, not a flat space anymore. To make what you want, you need to change your 3D text layer’s Z position (the third number in the position tab of the layer) to 1 or 2 pixels. Or you can bring your emitter on front with entering Z space -1 or -2. This must be your solution

    I've followed this step by step. Whenever I turn on the Obscuration Layer to the Text Comp, the text seems to turn back to 2D (i.e. it's flat to camera and doesn't rotate), but I do see the mask of the text in the particular, so for whatever reason it's not lining up and animating together. I saw others talk about how the movement of the text must come from the precomp layer too, so I tried that - I made the text in the comp 3D and matched the rotation from the main comp with the emitter, and it's still not working. Any suggestions?

    Thanks for the tutorial, but when I change the emitter direction to "directional", the particles are still not governed by the spot light's [cone angle] and [point of interest] parameters. Other than that everything is fine (thanks to TurkeyMaze comment too). I'm using Particular 5.0.2 though, maybe this trick doesn't work in this version?
