  • I show how to remove the door lock actuator assembly from the door.on this 2000 Nissan Frontier
I intended to make a video on how to replace the actuator, but Amazon sent me the wrong part, so i had to stop recording, and when i recorded the second half of the video (which was going to be the installation of the actuator to the assembly) the video footage got lost. Replacing the actual actuator (door lock) is pretty easy, once you have the assembly out of the vehicle. i believe there are two tabs that release if from the assembly and you can swap it. The second actuator that was sent by some company on Ebay, was very similar to the original, but at the connection part, there was like a small piece of molded plastic, that wouldn't let the plug go all the way in. the Nissan dealership wanted something like $170 for the actuator and wasn't available for a few weeks. That's why i decided to try and find one online and it was super difficult. I did have to modify the entrance of the plug, by grinding out that small molded piece of plastic, that wouldn't let the plug go in and you might have to remove the rubber orange bushing that seals it from moisture. I used a Dremel tool for this process. it was a tiny area inside the part where the plug goes in, that had to be cut out, without damaging the metal connections. This took some patience, but i was able to make this actuator work. It was worth it at the end, because the actuator was only $59.24 free shipping. it was a Dorman part # 759-212

I love how the video just ends. That is about how all my projects end up. I can just hear all the cussing afterwards. lol

I recorded what i could. When i finally got the correct part, my camera decided not to want to work. I figured some information is better than no information? There was alot of cussing. Lol

Thanks, this helped me get an idea of how to get the lock actuator out for my '06 Sentra which has a similar system of rods like this but no videos on this specific issue. Unfortunately in my smaller car it's even harder to see in there, and I initially didn't notice an additional rod for the exterior door latch after I replaced the motor and had to take it apart again to re-align/re-connect it.

Typical Amazon bs. "This part fits your vehicle". No it doesn't...not even close.
Thanks for taking the time make this vid.

Looks like the correct part should have been Dorman 759-224 which is what will also work for my 2004 Nissan Xterra. Thanks for the showing what to take apart.

When I ordered a different actuator it looked identical, but i had to do modifications to get it to work. They don’t make an exact fit actuator for this vehicle. The dealership doesn’t make them anymore, so i had to improvise to make the second one they sent work. The second one looked more like the original. I just didn’t video it. I had to modify where it plugs in. It was like the aftermarket part had a plastic bumper inside that would not let it plug in, even though it looked like it would. I had to semi grind ( hone)out that little section and remove the rubber pieces that seal the connector. I think i did order that part, because I remember it being Dorman brand the second time i had to reorder. If i had to do it again, i would try and find a used one that would go right in. Not all aftermarket parts fit seamlessly. Good luck

You will have to remove the seats through the other door. Then try to remove the door panel.

I just finished dealing with the same issue on my my 2004 xterra's driver's side door lock assembly and actuator. My door seized in the locked position. I found a new OEM panel online and I proceeded to cut the supports out of the old panel. I removed remove the arm rest cover and all the screws... you can makes several cuts connecting the holes on top of the arm rest support with a metal hacksaw blade. It will safely eat through that plastic like butter. I just connected the holes that the upper arm rest fit into. took 2 mins. Then make a cut through the fabric and continue a cut upwards. This allowed for the center to crumple inward. I had to pull up and the panel pops right off. I also had to cut the plastic shroud off the door lock assembly so I could get to a portion of the ole lock that wasn't frozen but after that I could hook the door open. I didn't need to remove the seat I did the work leaning into the vehicle. this is an achilleas heel for this particular model but I still love my truck. Hope it helps fam.

You would have to take out the seats through the opposite side, remove and possibly damage the door panel to get it off, and then see why its not opening
