I honestly think the best cars are from early 2000, enough electronics to make your life easier, but not so much to destroy your wallet when they break. Absolutely hate new all screen instead of knobs in cars, especially when they lagg for whatever reason even tho its 2017.
To get to the test functions without clearing the trip, hold the reset button in while you're turning the key on. This will immediately bring up the test menu and keep your trip mileage intact. Also, as someone already said, the cluster test is always available, there's no need to unlock the other tests (3-18) just to do that.
And to get back to the other tests while in a test menu (like 2 for cluster), hold the button for ~half a second, and the .x will turn off, and you're back to selecting the main test menus.
Drop the windows and open the sunroof - then hold the recirculation button (tunnel mode) - should close the electric windows and sunroof, then press and hold the recirculation button and they should open back to their previous position (eg half or full open) - does that on all German cars, similar to the dropping the windows with the key fob.
All car keys will charge the batteries in ignition. If it stops doing it the battery's are just old and dead need replacing like anything else . But all car keys charge in ignition
Very cool! I have the same car and had no idea it has these features. The battery kept going dead, and the dealer said the car wasn't going into "sleep mode." They said the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. It's fixed now and runs great.
Another feature of the e-46: after turning the engine off (even with the key off the ignition altogether), the power windows (any of them) work for about 15 minutes later. This is true as long as you do not open the driver's side door.
The thing about the key changing the encryption, that's how literally every remote key works. Every single one of them since they started using them, it's not just bmw.
I used the OBD to call a mechanic on his shit when he installed a defective thermostat in my car. Highly recommend E46 owners understand these functions so they don't get taken advantage of
ANYTHING, ANYTHING AT ALL left on, even if you forget to shut off the headlights (ONLY PARKING LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED), it will automatically shut itself off after 15 minutes. The factory setting is 15 mins, not 20 mins. Although, there are many features that one can customize if one should chose to do so. For example, there is a feature in all BMWs 2000 and on, it is called, "Walk Away" after one shuts off the motor, pull back on the "High Beams" the high beams will illuminate for one minute, giving you light to illuminate your walking path as to prevent you from walking in the dark. One can change that one minute setting to go off at 30 seconds, 2 minutes. Also, interior lights can be changed so they stay on for longer periods of time. There are many factory presets that can be changed. There are tons of scan tools out on the market that plugs right into the OBD2 port of the car that can change all of those settings. Another example, BMW 2001 and newer, can remember 10 master keys (key fobs) and each person having a key fob to one particular BMW can have his or her own persettings for that one car, so as long as that one person has their own key fob, they can have their own set of preset radiostations programed, climate control set, rear view mirrors, steering wheel position, seat position, seat temp settings. Like I said, the car can have 10 masters. If one fob should get lost, the owener can plug a scanner into the OBD2 and delete that lost fob to make room for another or just leave that space blank.
Another hidden thing I found on my car. 2006 e46 M3 when I’m driving fast and my window is down the music gets louder so I can hear it. I think that’s cool. And when I stop at a light it goes back down to normal volume
Yea... i once was driving. My right hand got stuck on the left window and i had to shift back with left and steer at the same time around a corner. I made it without any damage xD!
Side note: The pinch protection is great. Butttt lets just say you have BMX handlebars out the window and you roll up the window, it’ll probably break the window regulator. Don’t ask how I know

Idk about the sedan or coupe, but the E46 Vert with the top disabled from the trunk you can use the key in the door & hold it in the unlock position & it will roll the windows down, hold it in the lock position and it will close the windows, and with the top enabled from the trunk the same action will actually drop or raise the convertible top, neat'o right 😏
In my 2000 323i I can hold the lock and unlock buttons on the key for the same features. It’s like 5 seconds to hold and your windows will go up, great feature if you left your windows open on a nice day, can close them from inside your house.

My central locking system of BMW 318i is not locking with the remote key but when I'm driving it will lock itself as usual , and I can unlock using the button inside the car.What could be the problem , the system or the remote key.

Are u sure about 12V sockets being turned off after some time? Because my brother had a 330d and the 12V charger's display was still on even after the car was turned off and locked for a couple of hours. We tried all 3 sockets located in the car and they seemed to all be delivering power constantly. We didn't try to leave it as such until the battery died completely, although it would probably take forever for a small cheap screen to drain it by itself.

Not sure if the US cars do this but in the UK if you lock the glove box if you lock and unlock the doors the boot (Trunk) won't open with the switch, back there on the lid

My e36 from 1992 has the window thing where it stops if it hits something. More annoying than helpful tho since it only works on my auto driver window, and sometimes it will think it hit something and just randomly go down
When I was a child I got my finger stuck in a window(My dad shut the window and he didn't know I had my hand there.), and I tell you after that you like the stop feature.

You can greatly extend the range of your your key fob to lock your vehicle or open/close the windows. Simply touch your metal part of the key to your chin while pressing any button. Give me a thumbs up if you tried this and found it useful.

At 4:15 you actually broke little piece off of the glass by that pencil, the feature is there mainly for your safety and lets say if you leave your neck in the window, you will be save and window too, but the hard pencil shradded the corner od glass

I have a 2000 bmw 323ci and I've noticed every time I shut my door the window adjusts like it's trying to seal up what air spaces might exist. is this normal. Also, it's my first BMW and I just have to say, what an intelligent car. I see why people like Bm's now.
It actually lowers the window slightly when you open it as not to damage the seals as well as the window support system. A lot of newer cars do that now

Actually if you are at 2.0 and only thing is to click and do the test but to not turn off the ignition and do all the stuff again just hold it and it will go back to 2 and you continue to other tests, by just holding it for a sec you go backward :-)
I have a bluetooth thing plugged into my 12 volt, I always worry that if I accidentally leave it plugged then I’ll drain the battery. It’s so cool that it will turn it off!!
The bonus feature that you told, I have a bluetooth device there which the car doesn't shut off, left it for over a week. But luckily my battery didn't drain.

Do any functions of the key work? Key may need to be re synced or key fob battery is dead.

Yes, you need to install an alarm first
My mother's rover 45 changes codes every time you unlock and lock it but it can get messed up by trying to unlock it out of range too many times.

Glass is not shattered I can assure you that. It was a little piece of the pencil coming off.

I can't find my cd player in my 2005 5 series bmw cross over.
I have a 2000 bmw 323ci and I've noticed every time I shut my door the window adjusts like it's trying to seal up what air spaces might exist. is this normal. Also, it's my first BMW and I just have to say, what an intelligent car. I see why people like Bm's now.
Yes that’s normal
It actually lowers the window slightly when you open it as not to damage the seals as well as the window support system. A lot of newer cars do that now

@@inockupp replaced shocks and struts to get back to normal suspension. probably replaced bushings at least 5 times over. entire cooling system with metal parts where possible. aFe CAI stage1, strut bar, DICE, and lots of random stuff I cant even remember anymore. this is really my beater. I also have a 2015 335xi
just picked one up few days ago and I'm looking at $800 on parts, want to make sure I got all the main shit before I order.

@@inockupp replaced it as part of the cooling system overhaul. both belts are easy to take off, although the spacing is tight.

Actually if you are at 2.0 and only thing is to click and do the test but to not turn off the ignition and do all the stuff again just hold it and it will go back to 2 and you continue to other tests, by just holding it for a sec you go backward :-)
The window thing exist on my 1999 BMW 320i Touring, so that’s kinda cool tho! 👍🏻
I have a bluetooth thing plugged into my 12 volt, I always worry that if I accidentally leave it plugged then I’ll drain the battery. It’s so cool that it will turn it off!!
The bonus feature that you told, I have a bluetooth device there which the car doesn't shut off, left it for over a week. But luckily my battery didn't drain.

There is no luck, simple car did not recognise your bluetooth as treath, standard in every Truck produced in Germany. Bluetooth is minor elektric...
