    soak in very hot(not boiling but very hot) water for a few minutes then you can strip it very easy. Thank me later.

    Just pour boiling water on the parts, the coating just shrinks and then rubs off. quick and easy for me !!

      Well that sounds like a much easier way to do it, on what vehicule did you do it? Cause the coating on my parts was really strong...

    I have had good results removing the sticky paint with isopropyl alcohol as well, it leaves a scratch-free surface ready for priming and painting. We used that kind of paint on equipment ment for use on a ship's bridge, but man, that became just a sticky goo after 8-10 years.. Also, for better scratch resistance, you may consider 2k paint.

      Great suggestion! might be faster than the scraping technique😅

    Best method so far! Tried 5 or 6 different methods, this one was the best by far! Be careful to not let the product sink for more than 5min, otherwise it will turn grey/white

    Very nice repair. I also bought the same painting products as you did. Motip is a good company. I will try tomorrow on a Renault Laguna 3 to pour very hot water over the center console (which is full of this crap soft coating) to see if the soft coating will flake away. That car has a hopeless interior and very, very rattly.

      @_Project46_  9 місяців тому +1

      Can't wait to hear from you if it worked with the hot water trick, keep me posted! As for the paint choice, it is indeed a good brand and I always got great results using motip. If I remember correctly, the laguna 3 has quite a lot of soft touch coating so I wish you good luck and thank you for watching my videos🙂

      Honestly, its the biggest improvement that you can make interriorwise, it makes the interrior look like new again🙂

    moi j'ai poncé direct mais sur les baguettes de finition + le plastique du levier de vitesse.
    pour le petit tiroir en soft touch je vais reessayé car j'ai pas assez poncer je crois, j'ai pas obtenu l'aspect lisse.

    I have tried your approach on some test pieces of plasic and found that as the colour is black the resulting surtace shows up scratches very easily,, more so than the original soft touch - I have tried matt lacquer on top also but this doesn't improve things. How is your interior holding up?

    • @_Project46_
      @_Project46_  7 місяців тому

      Hi Jaap,
      I'm sorry that this method did not work for you, to be honest I was worying about the same thing before I did it but after thurough testing with nail scratches I did not see any visible scratches apear, to be fair I haven't tried it with any metal object but but in general the finish on my parts stayed the same ever since. Maybe its a different paint or a different type of plastic?

    I poured boiled water over the soft plastic from a Renault Laguna 3 center console. It didn't work. Best bet is to use acetone and a microfiber towel.

    • @_Project46_
      @_Project46_  9 місяців тому +1

      I didn't think of acetone but yeah that could work quite well i'll definitely try that next time🙂

    We accidentally discovered that some of the interior finishes on the plastic parts (the shift knob trim particularly) lifted after we dropped hand sanitizer on it and let it sit without cleaning it up. I wonder if simple isopropyl alcohol would work as well or better than oven cleaner.

    • @_Project46_
      @_Project46_  11 місяців тому +1

      Well, i'm glad you asked because I thought the same thing but it turns out that alcool has no effect on soft touch plastic, I tried it out before using oven cleaner and it did nothing , maybe if you let the parts sit in alcool for a while that it will eventually become softer but i'm not sure...

  • @jacobbruner1

    Scotch pad might work well for removing coating. Could possibly be too abrasive for the plastic

    • @_Project46_
      @_Project46_  Рік тому +2

      To be honest, I have no idea because you can't buy that stuff in France but thanks for the tip🙂

    use technical alcohol for better results

    • @_Project46_
      @_Project46_  10 місяців тому

      I tried alcohol first but in my case it had no effect on the soft touch coating unfortunately... oven cleaner is much stronger and does not damage the plastic underneeth

  • @gravl1
    @gravl1 9 місяців тому +1

    Yea that coating was a horrible idea. I did this to my 04 BMW, and other equipment. Rubbing alcohol did the trick.

  • @usategui1
    @usategui1 11 місяців тому +2

    Better use alcohol. Fill a bucket and drop the parts inside for 24h, then rinse With fresh alcohol and let dry

    What were BMW thinking coating parts with goo.

  • @JamesJames-jt3ts
    @JamesJames-jt3ts Рік тому +3

    Honestly i don't know why they used that shit coating, probably for a reason. To protect the plastic from beneath.

    • @_Project46_

  • @DontLetsPlay

    This is absouletly not worth the time, scraping all this shit off. just buy new or stick foil over it.

    • @_Project46_
      @_Project46_  3 місяці тому

      The issue with these solutions is that in both casses the finish won't be as durable as a painted surface, and they'r also more expensive but sure it could work🙂

    I just soak the parts in dot3 brake fluid over night and it comes off very easily, it doesn't react with the plastic either.
