Somebody please give this man a medal. Followed instructions and my remote key problem was fixed. I paid £40 for 2 keys to be reprogrammed, but this has now saved me that cost. Thank you.
You are a genius, after a couple of months of research, I find your video and say” let’s give it a try” went down in the car, and it actually worked first attempt.give this man 2🥇🥇
OMG!!! I DID IT!!! You just saved me $150! I had lost my original key and bought a new one, then the locking mechanism broke and I had no way to lock my car. This was my saving grace. Much much much gratitude!!!
This is the only step guide that has helped. The mentioning of 2 seconds in between clicks and the doors have to be closed, but unlocked is something I am yet to hear anywhere else. Great video!
I've seen a myriad of videos and THIS is the ONLY one that worked. You' re awesome bro. 1. I entered the car. Close the doors via the button. 2. Do the process 3. Nothing happened Again 1. I entered the car. Close the doors via closing button, I pushed th button again to open them 2. Applied the steps described in the video. 3. BANG! It worked
This video just saved me $$$$$... My key fob stopped working Sat, Mar 17, 2018 while at the H-D dealership. Was sweating bullets thinking about spending $250+ at BMW dealership for replacement key. My 2006 X5 3.0i is now back to normal. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
Ok, i have to apologize man, I was talking crap at first because I wanted you to go straight to the key issue, but, By me following your instructions, my key works NOW and it did not before. Thanks..
Thank you, this worked perfectly on my E53 2001 X5. My battery in the car went flat and after I charged it the central locking no longer worked. I am baffled why 430 viewers would give this a thumbs down they must be idiots. I have 2 tips, firstly it is easier if you take the key off the keyring, and secondly if like me you have a spare key, you need to do the first one then without putting anything into the ignition, press and hold the buttons on the second key as on the first, whilst the system is still in programming mode otherwise the second/spare key won't work, so do them both one after the other. Thank you again form the UK.
Make sure, after you depressed the BMW button the third time, that you let go of all the buttons. I made the mistake of keeping the unlock button pressed and it didn't work for a few trials the at the first round. . I reviewed the video and it work the second round, the first time. Thanks a lot. This saves me, the least, scratches on my door handles. It also saves me from going around the car just to unlock all the doors with my key. This is not a hoax. It really worked on my 2003 E39 as I was skeptical and was about ready to give up and tear my key fob for a new battery and possibly soldering the battery as well. Thanks again and my thumbs up!
I have a 2003 e46. This morning i came out to go to work and no key fob action. Unlocked the trunk with key. Took out center passage way, got a fishing pole, duct taped a metal hook to the end and pulled the back door open. Tested the car battery.. putting out dang near 14 volts. Put new batteries in the key fob and still nothing. Came home today to do research and low and behold this dude knows what the hell he's talking about! IT WORKS PEOPLE. Thank you brother you just saved me a butt load of frustration. Thanks again!
It worked on my second try on my 330d E46 Station wagon. My first try was with all doors closed and only the driver door unlocked, it didn't work. Second try was with all doors closed and all doors unlocked and it Worked, Thank you my friend. :).
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! 🏆 The manual lock on my BMW 318ti stopped working a year ago when the battery died and the car dead bolted. The fob central locking had never worked on the car since I bought it so I thought I was strewed and had been using the car without locking it (In live in a very safe place in New Zealand) and the BMW mechanic said I had to replace the whole lock system. I thought maybe the keys battery had died so was looking on UA-cam to try and replace it. Feel upon this video and thought “No way would this be the issue…” - Tried it expecting nothing and it worked Perfectly!!! Thanks for saving me A TON OF MONEY!!! 🙏🏾🏆
Brother, on this video i had to comment... have seen so many videos about this and try doing it and nothing worked... i was thinking i had a bigger issue with actuators or central locking sistem, and did your steps and worked!!! im so amazed on how simple it was and not many people know how to do it properly... anyway THANK YOU SO MUCH for this info, wishing you all the best ! Great video.
Evan, my key hasn't worked in months. 🤔Skeptically I used your directions and was totally surprised 😲 when my locks opened with the key. Thank you for taking your time to help BMW owners. Your knowledge is a blessing to us all. Thanks again.😉
OMG my lock button haven't work in years and I was just the process of paying someone to change the battery. My drivers side door has always remain unlock. Some how this video showed up after looking up a different BMW issue. IT WORK. I am cheesing from left to right. Thank you so much.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I live in New Zealand and BMW wanted over $500 to have my X5 e53 fob replaced. This worked first time and I'm so pleased I found this video and for you sharing the information. You are awesome! Thank you again
Wow, I am impressed! When I heard that "click", I almost died, so excited! That said, I came across your post during my search for why my rear windows in 03' e39 M5 suddenly stopped operating up or down...and same day, key fob no longer opens trunk, NOR the physical trunk latch?!? This happened directly after a rare commercial car wash, against my better judgment; but all windows were all the way up!
Just ordered a replacement key from BMW for my 03 E85 Z4. $275. Email from BMW states: Start car and hold key in the start position for 5 seconds. Then switch key to the 2nd position. Hold down the unlock button and then press the lock button 3 times within 10 seconds. Release the buttons and car should lock then unlock. "If procedure doesn't work take to nearest dealer" TOTAL FAILURE !! Found your UA-cam post and instant success. Leave it to German over engineering to make it more complicating than it needs to be and then charge you at the dealer. Thank you SOOO MUCH
Great post, thank you! I put this to the test on our 2004 530i. I went through the motions as you specified, but rather than the doors locking after the third push of the BMW/lock button signaling success, my driver's and front passenger side windows went down approximately 25%, both rear windows went down slightly and cabin/dome lights came on. I reinserted the key into the ignition and turned it to position #1. Once done, I locked the doors with the lock button. I then tried to unlock the doors by pressing the unlock button but got no response. I opened the driver side door and reclosed it. Then a small miracle happened, things that hadn't been working started working again. Driver side window control for all windows was previously only working the driver side window and mirror. All other windows required lowering or raising them at each individual window and the passenger side mirror did not move unless while backing up when it would tilt down to view the blind spot. After going through your process, I can once again control all windows from the drivers side control panel, tilt the passenger side mirror and unlock the trunk via the remote, but CANNOT consistently unlock the doors as I was hoping. I'll try the process again and provide an update if and when possible. Bottom line, GREAT INFORMATION. Thanks for the post.
So glad I cam across your video ! I watched your video twice and went into my garage at midnight to try it on my X5. On the first try it worked ! I've been opening the door with the key all this time and now no more. I initially watched videos about changing the battery and dragged my feet to do it. Thank you so much ! Problem solved !!
OMG! I bought a e46 coupe, and key didn’t work. After inspection, key was missing a battery so I put in a new one. And remote didn’t work, so I examined all input voltage and connections and everything should have worked. I was so pissed. And then I saw your video, this DIY at the time, seam so stupid and easy, then I thought - what is the chance it works, but I had nothing to lose and get in the car and try this, and it worked! I love you man!!!!
Guy, it worked liked magic. I couldn't open my car boot because bad keynob. But now i can use the new remote to open it. I'm in Ghana, West Africa and it worked. Keep up with good works.
OMG IT WORKED!!! My brother had this E39 for a full year without the remotes working because he didn’t know this!!!! I’ve had this for a month and i’m so happy i found this!!!! On google i first found a place that said you have to turn the key to position 5 times really quickly and that sounded odd to me so i needed to see a video explaining this to believe it and it’s nice that just once was enough. Doing it 5 times sounded like a prank to make the alarm go off for 5 minutes not being able to stop it :)
I’ve had to reprogram mine several times over the years. Well my battery died because I left my mobile printer on and that’s when my key fob stopped working. I assumed it was the key battery. Today my key got stuck in door so I knew that wasn’t a solution to keep using. Then something brought me here then i tried reprogramming and it worked! Thanks.
Dude.....you rock! Mine works now. Thank you very very much. I was just about to split my key fob open and try to replace the battery...after 7 years of it not working.....thanks again. (Shaking my head) can’t believe this.
This was a lifesaver!! My remote battery died and I was having trouble with my E84 key acting wonky. Got a new shell, swapped internals and CR2032, and it worked intermittently, like it lost signal. I can confirm this works! Same procedure but instead of turning just put it in the slot and take it right out, then follow the button sequence slowly and VOILA!!!
I invested in a new battery. Sobered it to the circuit board but nothing happened. I came across your post and tried it. First attempt and the key is working flawlessly. It seems you have helped a bunch of us with this easy to perform ¨magic trick.¨Thank you very much.
I just did it with the new style key. I used the old key to turn the ignition and did the button smashing on the new style key and it worked!! I just have to get the new flip key style cut, thanks
Hey Evan, it worked on the new key I ordered from Ebay. Thanks a lot for your clear instructions! So much fun when people share this kind of information... Thank you very much!
Thank you sooo much for ur video. I’ve had this problem with both my BMW 3 series convertible keys. The fob just stopped working one day and I couldn’t lock or unlock the car by pressing the fob buttons. Just happened to come across ur video and I went through the steps you outlined and now my key fobs are working perfectly fine. The doors are locking and unlocking 👍🏼 yay 😁
DUDE YOU ARE THE MAN! I replaced the battery in my key fob which was a long and tedious process, and I was so disheartened to discover that my key fob was still not working. I eventually found your video, and boom! It worked, now I'm wondering if I even had to replace the battery at all! either way, THANK YOU! Liked and subscribed just because of how helpful you were!
OMG u just saved my entire life!!!!!!!! Thank u soooooo much!! My door stopped locking!!! The cylinder broke!! I had to leave my doors u locked overnight all week and I barely slept checking my car!!! U r a life saver!!! I love uuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!! Soooo happy!!!!!!
Wow, this totally worked for me. I thought my battery was dead (18 years old after all) and I was going to need a new key fob. But hey! It lives again! Thanks so much for this!
One day after opening and closing trunk a lot the remote keys stopped working for me. This trick helped. This should be tried first before looking in any possible problems in antenna diversity, the battery of the key itself (which charges from the car itself, so should not be a problem ever). Just turning the key, and pressing buttons solved my problem, thanks for sharing.
Ohhh my god, bro my car been siting for 6 months in the garage and i can't figuer it out and the alarm was on won't stop in every time i start the car up, but now works like a champ, thanks a lot brooooorher.
I have a 2005 x3 E83 model, my key fob stopped working when my battery randomly died about a month ago, I just tried this and it worked exactly how you showed in the video!!!! THANK YOU so much pry saved me $300+!!!
@@EvanGoyuk i took it to the dealer for an oil change and they wanted $150 to run a diag on it and I said no, I knew they recharged the batteries but I cracked it open and it looked like it wasnt supposed to be removed to i snapped it back togather....only to stumble on ur video run outside and got this to work first shot, I was floored.....BMW mechanice pry knew the whole time what to do!!!?
Thank you so much!! I got a new battery for my X5, and after it was installed, both of my Diamond key fobs wouldn’t work for unlocking/locking it. I had to do it manually. Found your video and yesss they both work now! Thank you !
I live in Ireland, and my BMW key fob would not work, mechanic said to buy new key, saw this video and can confirm I followed the instructions and now the key works. Fantastic and a very big thanks to You. cheers.
Spent the day sitting on my keys in my back pocket and when I went out my Central locking on my z4 had stopped working, was gutted as it also works my roof but 2 mins following your vid and works like a dream. Thanks mate, much appreciated
Thanks again for the super useful tips and tricks! I replaced the battery on my E46 spare key but the remote didn't work to remote open, only with key and in the ignition. I thought I'd done something wrong and broken it, but I followed these steps and now have a fully working spare key! Awesome.
Programming Additional BMW Key Fobs So if you have a working key fob, but wish to program additional keys, follow these steps: Take the working key fob along with the ones you want to program inside the car with all doors and windows closed. Put the working key into the ignition and turn to position 1. At this point, the dash lights and accessories should turn on. Turn the key back and remove. On the working key, hold down the unlock button and press the lock button (the BMW logo) 3 times, then release the unlock button. The doors will then automatically lock and unlock. Take the new key and hold down the unlock button while pressing the BMW logo 3 times, then release the unlock button. Again the doors should lock and unlock, and you’re done. Programming a New Key from Scratch These instructions are for programming a new key when you do not have a working key fob. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to position 1 and back rapidly 5 times. Remove the key Hold the unlock button and press the BMW logo 3 times, then release the unlock button. If you have additional keys you’d like to program at this time, repeat step 3 within 30 seconds from the original key programming. Turn on the ignition to complete the process.
So Awesome! My car battery went completely dead over the winter. Key functions did not work anymore. I tried this was fixed in 15 seconds. I'm very happy!
I am really happy when i see people like you shearing info as i always do for myself so that way we can make a better and easier world. Am kurdish from north iraq thanks again.
So my morning started with my locking mechanism going out so I couldn't unlock my door manually and of course the remote hadn't worked since I had the car (3yrs). So I'm locked out and I can't use my other behicle because of course my BMW is parked behind it. So I Google some videos and decided to go thru the trunk crawlspace. Now I'm too big to fit so I took a pole with a hanger on the end and got to the back passenger side door handle amd got it! Yaaayy. But now I can't lock my car... Came across this video and baaammm! Got in & reprogrammed my ket! I am so 😁 thank you so much. It works and it was easy and quick!
Thank you so much. Was on my way to the supermarket to buy a paper knife and glue and then just gave it a try. Didn’t expect it work but amazingly it did!!
man thanks for this but my issue is different, I lost the last key and the car is locked, I broke the driver side window glass and got myself a new key but don't know what to do anymore, I am in Chad in central Africa and no mecanic here could help
Thank you so much! I hate my X5 and with the key unpair I really it. I was going to buy a new key from the dealer. Using this car without the fob is terrible! Watching this video and I am back to normal. Thanks again!
You champion!!! Thought I was screwed and new key required after all the hassle of changing the battery with no luck but your reset process worked a treat. Thanks for taking the time to help all. AAA+++
amazing brother this really works i just got my new key with board and battery ,,, but needs to be cut ,, but the programming steps you posted are on point ,,,,, THANK YOU SO MUCH
I tried and i hear little like click on the left side of the steering wheel, or somewhere left, i cant tell for sure, help please.. I have two keys, both lock and unlock car with old fashion method, and both keys are normally starting the car every day.. is there a possibility that fuse is dead? I would really appreciate if you can help me out with this :)
Wtf man?!? I work at a popular auto parts store, and I change key fob batteries all the time, and with no problems either. Even mercs are simple to change. However, I just recently bought a 07 BMW X3 3.0si, and stupidly...Without researching it...I tried to change my battery the same way. Little did I know that this particular key takes its own type of battery called a “HQRP battery”. Once I disconnected the battery, and then reconnected it after realizing that it’s a 2025 Duracell battery, that’s soldered to the +/-...It lost all function to unlock and lock the vehicle. However...This video saved me. It absolutely worked man! Thank you so much for this video, because you have saved us all a lot of money for a new key fob. Awesome video!
Video is excellent. Step by step showing exactly how to position the key, what to do, what not to do and to finish the reprogramming. That is why so many of us got our BMW keys to work again on the first try. Your suggestion to attempt reprogram the key before replacing the battery is exactly what is missing in other videos. Many thanks.
I can’t believe this worked 😂 After a couple failed tries I took the key apart to take a look at the battery, it looked good. Tried a couple more times and the locks cycled I was shockedddd. Shout out you bro definitely liked and subbed 🙏🏼
Worked on two old keys for me. 1999 323 hadn’t worked in years. 2001 X5 wasn’t working after some garage repairs. Was about to change both batteries. Top tip... Such an easy fix.
You are an absolute legend!!! I just completed this with all 4x keys I have. Now they all work as they are meant to……Central locking & boot opens without fussy with door lock!! Yippee!!! Thank you

Yes

Amazing, my E46 is 17 years old so I was convinced it was the battery.... this tricked fixed it in 20 seconds!!!
O

Thanks again for the super useful tips and tricks! I replaced the battery on my E46 spare key but the remote didn't work to remote open, only with key and in the ignition. I thought I'd done something wrong and broken it, but I followed these steps and now have a fully working spare key! Awesome.
Awesome! Thought my battery was dead. Tried this process and to my surprise, on the 2nd time it worked! Thanks so much for the tip.
This worked for me on my E46 coupe, it took 3 or 4 attempts but it works, I have been using the manual lock for the last 3 months! Thanks
Thank you very much! This helped out a lot. No one else told me that you gotta have the doors shut and unlocked. Got it to work first try. Lifesaver!👍

Programming Additional BMW Key Fobs
So if you have a working key fob, but wish to program additional keys, follow these steps:
Take the working key fob along with the ones you want to program inside the car with all doors and windows closed.
Programming a New Key from Scratch
These instructions are for programming a new key when you do not have a working key fob.
Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to position 1 and back rapidly 5 times.
Remove the key
Hold the unlock button and press the BMW logo 3 times, then release the unlock button.
If you have additional keys you’d like to program at this time, repeat step 3 within 30 seconds from the original key programming.
Turn on the ignition to complete the process.
You are a star….followed your instructions and remote key worked first time….thank you so very much.

It works and it was easy and quick!
worked perfectly, you just saved me a lot of money! subbed 😏
Me, too. I've been trying to get my remote key to work since I got the car. Now it works like a champ!
AAA+++

+Kiana Dominique Anytime!!

Worked for me. Thanks. 2001 BMW 325i Key appeared to be dead....now works fine
Thanks Mate
Worked a treat
Thought I was up for $500 to get this fixed (Australia)
Owe you a beer!
Thank you. I thought my battery was dead.
+Ryan Roesing anytime!
Oh man thank you so much! I was doing this over and over with my door open until I found your video. After watching yours it worked in four tries.
Thank you for the comment!!!
Very helpful. All other videos forget to mention car must be unlocked for it to work.
Thank you, IT WORKED! after almost a year having to insert the key into the door lock to open the car, a million thanks!
Worked first time. Bless ya, Evan - all the best from London.
Dude! For 3 years I could not lock my car now I can I'm so happy right now. Thank you 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
I can’t believe this worked 😂 After a couple failed tries I took the key apart to take a look at the battery, it looked good.
Yippee!!!
Thank you
Yo my key fob stopped working for the longest i came here & it worked you my dawg 💯💯💯💯
thank the gods for people like you. Thank you from Vancouver canada!!! 300 dollars saved!
