Dear Alois, your way of teaching is very good. Because you speak slowly and with pause, when required. In this video the use of disc for explaining 'Spin' is very appropriate.
Good job guys! Much needed video for me as I am struggling a lot in serves. My forehand and backhand is very good but I am struggling in serves .Earlier it was lot of confusion when I played. I couldn't understand which spin I am doing. Thank you very much for doing a lot of hardwork in this video. Thank you and keep posting such amazing videos.
Watching you Alois brings back such old memories and makes me interested in playing once again. Those pennant nights down at the old Albert Park, junior squads and tournaments were fun. If my memory serves me correctly 43+ years ago, you learnt from Robbie. Great to see you've continued your love of the game and looking here & your website have made it a integral part of your life. Congrats. 😎
Great video, This spin has explained in a very simple and userfriendly way. I really got the enough skill to leaan spinning of the ball. Keep it up and keep on sharring such a videos.
sir very very much thanks i am from india seeing your video to spin the ball you are great thanks a lot and you are telling with that disk nobody on youtube is telling with that and it is easy to understand with disk thanks a lot
Thanks alot, im trying to learn this skill at 33 after playing vr table tennis! My dad could always do this spin shot when i was kid and id have no chance ! Haha
@@pingskills Thanks! I do train on my serve to try and improve it. And videos like this inspire me to keep on practicing my serve, even if it is at times boring to train just by oneself.
@@pingskills haha...sorry......by volume I meant can you guys please increase the number of videos you post on youtube....I meant volume as in the amount of videos....not sound :D
one of my opponents has some great long underspin-sidespin serves that are impossible to return. i tried blocking them but the ball just fell to my side. i can only return them with topspin strokes but then he will destroy me with this backhand (its almost as strong as otto's from pongfinity). how do i beat this guy?
Angel Koulas there is two ways 1 try to pressure your opponent like hitting your topsin stroke more harder so he would mess up his backhand Or You can hit the ball slowly and obverse his backhand and position yourself correctly to do a rally fight
@@angelkoulas95 Well done. Also if you don't feel confident topspinning the serve then you can return it with a push stroke. However in the long term you are best developing your attacking stroke off a ball that doesn't bounce twice on the table.
When going for an extremely short serve with heavy backspin, I feel like I have to pass my racket completely under the ball and flick upwards, contacting the FRONT of the ball ("7 or 8" on the clock you have there) to avoid sending it too far. Do you do anything similar for that kind of serve or am I imagining things?
It's great you are experimenting with this. That certainly is a good way to achieve a lot of backspin. Take a look at this video for more information on this: www.pingskills.com/tutorials/must-learn-serves/ma-lin-ghost-serve-bat-angle Keep up the good work :)
I ask on behalf of all of us who grew up in the 20th century... can we use an audio cassette instead of a CD...? We have ton's of those laying around even though we no longer have a cassette player... :-\
I used to just try any angle to get spin thats how you do it just have fun for hours just figuring out angles on serves I had a serve i called the gullotine 🔪 🗣 🏓 i held the paddle upside down cut across it like the medieval weapon lol and then another ghost serve variation 👻😱🏓
You didn't show clearly how create the spin. Hand position, action, which moment to do side and back spin. Only can learn over(big picture) not detail how actually to do it.
I see. This means you need to hit the ball more finely. Pretend there is a fly on the ball and you are trying to hit the fly off the ball without touching the ball. Once you have a fast bat and a fine brushing contact you will generate lots of spin. Good luck!
It certainly takes some practice. See if you can try serving onto the floor and generating as much spin as you can. This is a good way to practice the fast brushing action without the pressure of having to serve the ball on the table. Good luck!
Just dont let them neighborhood players do those cheat serves like serving it outta their hands or hide the ball on serves haha a video on why basement players play so illegally would be a great clip lol why dont common people ever know the rules to table tennis
None of us do that in "actual matches". Just when messing around with friends. And the reason is because it's more fun and not really much of an advantage. Serving is one of the only ways to bring creativity into the game without having to actually be good at it. My go-to's are tossing with fingers, tossing from the left corner over to the right corner, throwing the toss off walls or ceilings, and putting the ball between my fingers and slapping it out of my hand with the paddle. These we see as fine because they don't provide legit advantage (unless ur dumb) and are still "hit-my side bounce-opponents side bounce". Game mechanics are the same, we just ignore unimportant formalities. Ones that don't fly are intentionally serving in front of the line, saying lets count, the "bounce then hit" method, or "rolling" the ball off the paddle. These are disliked because they provide legit advantage to the server. The illegal serves aren't difficult to return either unless you have 0 concept of how to deal with mild spin. They're basically just a fun way to determine whether or not your friend/opponent is an idiot who can't adapt and doesn't get physics.

It is a wonderful way to show the principle of ball`s movement after the serve with a static racket!
You’re so good at teaching tennis. You deserve more recognition. Excellent work. Keep it up 👍🏼.

This is my favorite video on serving period. Using the CD to practice spin is brilliant. And the exercises with the cones are so helpful for training.

Do you have to use the left hand to do it?
Not at all. The tips apply whether you are right or left handed.
