Hello, Alois, thanks again for all of your amazing lessons! I have hard time mastering my backhand. It is MUCH weaker than my forehand. I totally do not feel comfortable with it and the whole backhand move still feels very unnatural to me. How should I practice to improve the backhand? Where should I start? Are there some excersizes that I can do alone? Is there some way to practice it during a friendly match without engaging the opponent in passing specific balls?
Hi, it's Jeff here. The best place to ask questions is on the PingSkills website: www.pingskills.com/table-tennis-forum
Alois answers most of the questions on the website. With the backhand it's best to start with the basics. Make sure your feet are in the right position and you have the correct starting and finishing positions. Then see if you can get a training partner to just play backhand to backhand and see how many you can hit on the table in a row. Good luck!
Cool thx
Thanks.
good technique
The room we play in during my father in law's weekly pong matches is actually pretty small so you really can't get that far behind the table, and this move has been my bread and butter.
Nice to hear. Keep up the good work!
congrats Alois and Jeff.U v got a 100,000 subscribers
Thankyou.
thanks
Hi Sir , Thank You for your shot, You explained it in a very clear way . I used to Try it , it came good for me . But now when I play that shot for sidespin serves , it goes straight into the net . I tried to correct it several times . sometimes it will be correct . but its not keep going correct. Sir could you please correct me
One of my favorite serve since it offers lot of variation in terms of side spin, top an under spin. But not effective against 2000 plus players
Thanks for doing the video could u do a video of things to do and bring during a tournament
Great suggestion. We'll add it to our list.
muchas gracias por compartir sus conocimientos me an servido demasiado para mi que apenas estoy comenzando pero me gustaría en español saludos desde Colombia
De nada. Buena suerte con su tenis de mesa.
Gracias maestros
PingSkills Do you now Spanish?
No, I used Google Translate :)
tnx
Too good tutorial
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.
I learned very much
Awesome. Make sure to check out the PingSkills website too :)
can u just show to lift the ball in flip in next tutorial. it can be uploaded by ur convinience. cuz i m always waiting for new pingskills videon
I'm a beginner, and your videos are of great help. I had one question, though. In your serving rules video, you had demonstrated that you have to lift the ball vertically straight or else it's illegal, but here while serving, you're lifting the ball and pulling it towards your body. Isn't that an illegal serve?
Great to see you are paying attention. In practice umpires almost never call a fault on this one but strictly going by the rules it could be considered a fault. So if you are learning then definitely practice throwing the ball up straight. I feel like the ITTF needs to revisit the service rules and either the umpires should enforce them or they should be changed.
Problem I have right now is switching between forehand and backhand within a second. It requires too much motion and precision to switch and be able to return the ball.
to shadow practice
do*
I had the same problem until I switched to penhold
please make a video on how to do backhand fishing please please I want to learn the shot I give mostly point on that
Good suggestion. One tip though, try to attack first then you won't be forced back from the table. From that position it's hard to win points even if you are good from back there.
Hi Coach! I want to ask how can we do this with penhold? Especially the one for returning the backspin. 😅
Great question. Have you tried using an action similar to the reverse penhold backhand?
Good
Thanks. I'm glad you liked it.
how do u return a ball when the person places the ball in your far forehand side and then suddenly hits the next to your back (placement).
-arvindh from bahrain
what do you think of a hold with both your index finger and thumb on the back of the paddle. With this hold you only use one side of the paddle.
It sounds like the Seemiller grip. I don't think it's as effective as the normal shakehand grip or penhold grip.
Could you please show me how Zhang Jike do his great backhand?? Thank you
I think it's important to master the basics, so take a look at all our backhand videos and keep practising them. Good luck!
This technique is completely different from Zhang jjke and fanzhendong's style I guess
When you're feeding Jeff backspin balls, is there actually that much spin on the ball when it reaches him? Because for backspin you really need to get under the ball, I've always wondered about this when I see people doing backspin multiball.
You get a fair bit of backspin with mutliball if you brush underneath it. It really depends on how you contact the ball. Definitely sometimes you can put the ball over without much backspin.
Hi Alois, is the flip also effective against short balls with sidespin? Short pendulum or any else
Yes it certainly is. In the video we demonstrate the flick against a short sidespin serve. Give it a try.
4:50
do you use an oversized racket?
which racket do you use alois please tell
Awesome video! But how do I defend against this shot? Thanks.
It can be difficult due to the sidespin, but try to topspin the ball back.
I made my high-school team thanks guys
Well done!
I really wish my high school has table tennis team ;(
my school doesnt have a team
he makes it look soooooo easy
with practice you could too :)
PingSkills thnkx for the support, I got better at it
Good to hear. Keep up the good work!
Uhgg im having problems in receiving a hard chop and side spin can u pls help?
The first step is recognise the spin on the ball. If it is has backspin try the push, (or the topspin against backspin), if it has sidespin you can play a topspin.
I love ping pong
Awesome. Me too :)
Hmmm.. my coach teaches me to flick with some topspin and a little bit of sidespin. Is it effective?
Yes that can be effective too. Take a look at our banana flick video: www.pingskills.com/tutorials/advanced-strokes/banana-flick
Love your videos. Could you please sdd some more latin music on it?
Latin music, do have anything specific in mind from the UA-cam audio library?
Not really, just that awesome music adds some extra spin on me.
Which table tennis racket or paddle you both were using? kindly tell the full name??
The PingSkills Touch with Xiom Vega Pro rubbers.
Is Jeffery's backhand rubber short pimples?
how to do backhand flick like zhang jike or fan zhendong?
Lots of training :) Have a look at our video called the backhand sidespin flick.
Mach weiter so
At the moment we don't have German subtitles. If anyone is able to translate these they can do so via the following link: ua-cam.com/users/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC_TNBWPjmGGNV3CA_vwK97Q&tab=2
4:31 was that a topspin serve?
It has sidespin on it as well so technically it's a sidespin topspin serve but we just call it a topspin here as that's important to know for getting the bat angle correct for the flick.
Which serve should I opt ?
There are lots of good choices. Do you have a favourite serve already? If so stick with that. Otherwise maybe try the tomahawk serve.
All that right foot in, left foot in business had me doing the hokey cokey while I should have been concentrating on the tips.
haha, yes sometimes it's best not to think too much :) It would be interesting to see you doing the hokey pokey whilst playing, it might put your opponent off.
Pleaae make a Video Receiving Short Ball spin
We have many videos on this topic. Take a look through them on our website: www.pingskills.com/categories/serving-and-receiving
Good luck!
My back hand ficks are always going off the table even though I bend my knees... May be you need to advice me how to make an angle with bat and what point on the bat the ball should touch ?
It does depend on the type of spin on the ball but if you are consistently hitting the ball of the end then try aiming a bit lower over the net and hitting more towards the top of the ball. Good luck!
+Jeff Plumb: Thanks for the guidance :)
You're welcome. Make sure to checkout the PingSkills website too. There you can watch our videos in a structured manner.
which leg should we have to put front?
If you are right handed then generally use your right foot.
Okay👋👋👋👋👋👏
Can you tell how to flick in dealing with float serve?
This video should help - www.pingskills.com/tutorials/intermediate-strokes/forehand-flick
The float serve will have no spin so you can keep your bat angle perpendicular to the table and flick through the ball.
How could you tell if the ball has top spin, back spin etc?
Alfred Parington Look carefully at the stroke of which the opponent played, it's hard to read from the ball itself due to it being a complete colour.
The best way is to watch how your opponent contacts the ball with their bat. If they brush underneath it will have backspin. If they brush up on the ball or on the top of the ball it will have topspin. And if they brush sideways it will generate sidespin.
shouldn't the toss on your serve be more vertical and not go back so much.. just wondering
Good question. Perhaps technically it should be. However if you watch the top players most of them serve with a similar ball toss and very rarely get faulted for this. However it is in the rules so if you're practicing it makes sense to try and throw it more vertically. I feel the umpires should enforce this rule more or the ITTF should change the rule.
With such an explanation even an idiot can learn to play high level game. Liked and subscribed ❗️
Thanks for your support.
mantapps
could you show these flicks and other tecniques for penholdersʔ
some times it is difficult to ɡet the idea for penholders in some thinɡs
Yeah, due to the grip the backhand flicks are certainly different. Using the reverse penhold backhand is somewhat similar to a banana flick. Unfortunately we aren't very good at using the penhold grip so it's not easy for us to demonstrate.
PingSkills mmmm I see...
Which racket is better
There is no one racket that is best for everyone. Here's a video that might help you with choosing a bat: www.pingskills.com/tutorials/choosing-equipment/choosing-a-table-tennis-bat
which is the bat
which tt table should I buy
Aditya Tyagi i think u should buy a donnay table thats what im getting for indoors
Aditya Tyagi go on amazon thats the best
what is the price
What is the best racket
I like the PingSkills Touch with Xiom Vega Pro but there are lots of good choices. Here's a video on choosing a bat - www.pingskills.com/tutorials/choosing-equipment/choosing-a-table-tennis-bat
How is Fan Zhendong's backhand flick different from this one?
Tianle Lyu more speed, a more gentle touch on the ball, which results in enormous spin and speed
I saw him live - inhuman O.O
Tianle Lyu He gets sidespin on the ball. They have a video on the Backhand Sidespin Flick. Also, its quality is much better...
they do bananas. diff stroke.
This stroke came to me naturaly but I use it when the ball is at the end of the table is it wrong because you said to use this on short balls
Andris Gargurnis If the ball goes out of the table, then you should try to attack it with a large stroke. As the ball goes short, you will do this flip if you want to attack it.
Tip: Every single ball that goes out of the table you should attack it with a large and strong stroke.
As David said in his reply, against longer balls you can play a more attacking stroke.
thank you
whenever i try a flick, the ball many a times falls on my side. i dont know why.
probably just the angle of the paddle
Yes try aiming a lot higher above the net and see what happens.
I see pro player like fan zhendong usually use banana flick and never flick. Should i use banana flick instead of a normal flick?
If you can do the banana flick well then it is a good option most of the time. It allows you to get more spin on the ball but it is harder to play - www.pingskills.com/tutorials/advanced-strokes/banana-flick
