One of my favorite Steve Winwood songs. Thanks
Steve Windwood should have been in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo singer/songwriter YEARS ago.
The Hall of Fame is just a phony popularity contest.
A child prodigy. Underrated. Multitalented. One of the most distinctive voices in rock music.
The King with the Pearly Queen.
Steve Winwood is an icon of icons, period. One of my all time favorite artists, whether it be for his bands The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith or his amazing solo career. He's worked/performed with so many legends, they seek him out, like Jimi Hendrix did for Voodoo Child, or playing a Jimi tribute with Slash, or playing with Prince, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne for a George Harrison tribute at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame....playing onstage with Eddie Van Halen, the list is endless. He's created some of the best music ever done, a singular voice, legendary organist/pianist/keyboardist & incredible guitarist & of course incredible songwriter. Thanks, Harri!!
Also, Joe Cocker's debut album "With A Little Help From My Friends" featured him on two songs, "I Shall Be Released" and "Do I Still Figure In Your Life".
@@LonghopeBro-ju6jl Very cool, I didn't know that! He really has just worked with almost everyone, it's crazy.
Mention should be made of the lyricist, Will Jennings, who passed in September of last year at the age of 80. Jennings was one of the most prolific songwriters of popular music in our time. It would take several paragraphs to enumerate all the hit songs he wrote for artists like Steve, Whitney Houston, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Joe Sample, Rodney Crowell, Mariah Carey, Jimmy Buffett, Barry Manilow, to name just a few. He wrote "Tears in Heaven" for Clapton. He wrote "Up Where We Belong," sung by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes for "An Officer and A Gentleman." Thanks David and Harri.
👍👍👏👏🔥🔥💫⭐️
Everything he touches turns to gold..... The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith and Ginger Baker's Air Force to name a few of the bands he was in. He is such an immense talent. Take care..
Love Steve Winwood started listening to him when he was with a group called traffic loved his song, Mr. fantasy 💜
My favorite Traffic song!
This man can play just about every instrument..what a talent. Very underappreciated
Musician. ❤❤
❤👍👏
This was written for Valerie Carter. Jackson Brown also wrote a tune about her called That Girl Could Sing. She was a messed up young woman with immense talent.
Just one of the best tunes ever written is all. Thanks!
One of my all time favorite 80's songs.
David-Even many lifelong fans of Steve Winwood are not fully aware of his many contributions to music anthology. Though primarily a guitarist, keyboard player, and vocalist prominent for his distinctive soulful high tenor voice, Winwood plays other instruments proficiently, including drums, mandolin, bass, and saxophone. Rolling Stone has Winwood listed as #33 of the greatest singers of ALL-TIME. Winwood's session work over many decades demonstrates his impact with over 30 artists and innumerable hits.
This was an outstanding submission choice. Harri, once again, your review and commentary were excellent.
Takes me back! Such a distinctive sound, buttoned up tight and put a tie on it! Oh drool! Thanks Harry, I needed this today!
Love me some Steve!!! Good choice Harri!
Steve Winwood is a greatly underrated artist, great memories for us Boomers, great request, great reaction!
Love Steve's voice, his musicianship. If you're interested in another song about Valerie Carter, like this song is, listen to Jackson Browne's "That Girl Could Sing." Great reaction, Harri!
I agree! 😊😊
Thank you David for a great song suggestion ❤ and thank you Harri 🎉
From his 1982 album, " Talking Back to the Night", a great tune written by Will Jennings and Steve.
Rumored to be about Valerie Carter, a famour writer and singer, who at the top of her game, unfortunately got into drugs.
With Steve's soulful high tenor voice, he proved to be one of Britain's foremost R&B
Vocalist.
His great vocals powered by a synthesizer, multimoog, keyboard and fabulous instruments, deliver a fabulous tune.
Great reaction Handsome Harri ❤❤
Thanks David, great tune👏👏 Cheers from Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦
This song and "That girl can sing" by Jackson Browne were both supposedly about Valerie Carter.
Valerie's version of Ooh Child for the movie "Over the Edge" inspired John Singleton to use it in "Boyz in the Hood". He used the original version by the 5 Stairsteps in the movie.
Oh, almost forgot...Rest In Peace Marianne Faithfull. We will be remembering you "As Tears Go By"
Such a great song, I just love it. Thanks David and Mr Best.
🤎🌺👍
Harri, if you haven't heard it, or about it, Arc of A Diver is an album that was recording at Steve's home studio he had built on his farm, and he wrote, sang, played all the instruments for all the songs, and produced and engineered it. The entire album. While You See A Chance is on the album, and the entire album is fantastic!
Props
Valereeeeeeeeee!!
Great choice in song harri
I think this is my favorite song by him!!! 🙌💖
this reminds my radio in car
Harri, I suggest you listen to a studio version vs. this one. The dynamics and clarity are lost and there are distractions from the crowd. This song is beautiful. Try a cleaner version. You'll appreciate the song even more. Have a great weekend.
The Dance song that sampled this was Eric Prydz Call On Me.
This was said to be about a lady he was in love with as a young man..."Come and see me. I'm the same boy I used to be."
Welcome to the 80s. 😂
"she was like Jass on a summer's day"
As a kid, I hated Steve Winwood's music. Pretty much as soon as I turned 40, I started liking it. Lol. And Valerie is my favorite.
Uggh i hate live versions ... especially ones that arent live 😂😂
A-HA Summer Moved On - play in August as Summer is moving away
Abel - Onderweg
Alain Bashung - Madame Rêve - Cheeky
Alessandro Safina - Luna - (tenor i think)
Alicia Keys Jimmy Cozier - Mr.. Man
Alison Krauss, Union Station - New Favo(u)rite
Andrea Bocelli, Dulce Ponte O Mare e tu
Anggun - Life on Mars (Bowie)
Anne Sofie von Otter, Elvis Costello - Broken Bicycles
Antonio Carlos Jobim, Elis Regina - Aguas de Marco.
ur +hinking of jump from Van Halen
He remembered Jump but not the name of the singer.
Conan Obrien? HAHAHAHAH
You need to listen to one of the studio versions - there are at least 2 different ones but the live versions don't do justice to this song.
hey i will show you my favourite (not random) songs out of my say 2000 favourites from around the World, so lets say 10 songs 10 countries/genres or 20 we'll see. Presently listening to ua-cam.com/video/8fG2mF6q7BI/v-deo.html which is French Pop, but i'd prefer LAAM to Leslie but Leslie is part of my 2500 favs.
