What happened is that for some reason the team hasn't built upon last season as they should have. Human beings improve with repetition. So learning from the Arizona game and building on an otherwise great season (especially defensively) should have been a given. It's like playing a video game and making it to the boss stage and losing. That loss makes you better, faster, and less fearful. For some reason it just hasn't happened. Christyn is trying but she is still doubting herself mid-game. E just seems soft and clumsy at times - almost like she's afraid of losing. Liv actually seems to be improving. Her intensity and focus are there. She even hit a couple of long range shots consecutively. She's still prone to turnovers but they are becoming less frequent. I love Aliyah, but it's time to admit she is a totally different player now. Unsure, can't handle passes down low. When the Huskies had the break opportunity to run and Caroline saw it before anyone, she zipped the pass downcourt so fast that no one was close enough to even put a hand on Aliyah if they wanted but she just flat out choked. Something is amiss with her. How many times last season including the tournament did she strip an opponent and refused to be beaten down the floor to score by herself! She's got something going on. And my girl Nika; I don't know what the heck is going on with the careless turnovers (Evina too) and bad shooting. At she's improved her quickness on D and her intensity is still there. It just feels like the team had to start from zero. And no one can hit an open jumper. That's bad. If this team played with the toughness, efficiency, and intensity on defense that they played with last year, even without Paige, they would have crushed GT.
@@alanlee3236 That stupid 2 dimensional offense and players. Either get out in transition or shoot wide open 3's. No one can shoot a midrange to save their lives. Everyone is camping out on the perimeter looking to shoot an open 3. Nika will not shoot. She brings the ball up and passes to an obviously open player. Gets the ball again and holds it above her head only to pass again. She never breaks her man down or looks to create space and shoot. She runs hard so everyone thinks she's doing something when her numbers prove otherwise.
Glad to see Amari in the game. Caroline has potential - just needs to get used to being in the spotlight. Nika needs to be there too. Aleah had an off game - surprisingly. Dorka needs to step up the defense under the basket. Saturday will be better!
Edwards has been off all year. She had one good game and otherwise hasn’t touched her form from a year a ago. Not sure why, I hope she’s not injured. Maybe she didn’t prepare as much in the off season knowing she had won a starting job and wasn’t an eager freshman delegate to earn playing time. They need her physically, energy, rebounding and intangibles: she, Paige and Nika were the only true dawgs, real hard core competitors.
Yeah to be honest, I'm really disappointed in Dorka's play. I thought she was going to be a beast based on her stats from last year, but she has bad hands, bad footwork, inconsistent shooting, poor rebounding and general positioning, and she seems timid and unfamiliar with how to play the post.
@@stephenholmes7322 Hate to admit it but yeah. UConn always has tough and consistent bigs capable of taking over a game either offensively or defensively - and when they are really rolling in the tournament they have 2 dominating (1 offensively and 1 defensively).
Their next games are against ucla and louisville idk how they’re gonna recover from that. These seniors just aren’t lifting this team at all. I would be more confident having the freshman’s and sophomores as the starting lineup
Without Paige these are the results, this team is not that good, last year's team wasn't that good either. It's just Paige is so Great she can turn a mediocre team to a Championship Contender... Much like LeBron James
Even with Paige, I don't believe they are a final four contender. The offense is in shambles and their inside game is non-existent. They have to learn to play as a TEAM and get some continuity going. Maybe they will resolve these issues with time. I will continue to root for them! And Lebron has not made the Lakers a Championship contender......
@@lawabiding2576 If Paige wasn't on the team last year they wouldn't get past the second round in the tournament. This year you think they beat Notre Dame without Paige c'mon man, Paige fixes everything cause she's great and other teams fear her. Secondly look at the Cleveland team's LeBron took to the championships and what happened after he left those teams. Your talking about today with the Lakers LeBron 36 years old now can't carry a team like he use too but without him Lakers won't even make the playoffs.
UConn got defeated because they were intimidated by a stronger team that has excellent rebounding team and total control of blocking as well as passing of balls. Basically, SC did what we call as man to man or guarding one player by two players as SC executes the plan to rebuff any offense and defense by UConn. The most important of all is to take possession of the ball. SC players are right where the ball bounces off so that a missed shot could be corrected by another player who is precise at the location the ball bounces from the ring. Uconn players were nowhere under the ring if their shooter takes the shot. That is a very very neglected opportunity to have someone to take the ball for a slam dunk the or pass to another player for a second chance to make a 3 point shot. Apparently, if Paige is nowhere, it is like the team becomes headless and could not execute a plan to even the score or to maintain an edge in scoring. SC at first had the scoring lead, but, when coach of SC saw how UConn execute a plan to even the score only then did the SC coach ordered her Number One talent to get into action. It is the rebound and taking possession of the ball and shooting at 3point ranges things that made it to SC victory. UConn needs a practice of shooting of balls at 3 point ranges
To the haters I say enjoy this temporary period of Uconn misfortune while you can. In fact, I won't be surprised if our 28-year old record of zero consecutive losses falls before we hit our stride. Despite a smattering of panicky doom & gloom after hearing Geno's post game remarks, my only worries are prolonged healing periods or (God forbid) more injuries. Coach is still every inch the master psychologist & motivator that he's always been. He-knows-how-to-posture. In the near term I look for a periodically ugly and uncomfortable process that come tournament time will once again result in a team nobody will relish facing. Wait and see!
Why would you even say that? Talk about negativity. She's about to become the starting center for the best team in women's college basketball history next year and you think she's going to leave? For why? I swear people just talk to be talking. If you want to know what she's got to look forward to, take a look at some Hopkins basketball highlights from 2020. She's going to be fed on a consistent basis under the basket. The world is about to become her oyster. I was so impressed with her 8 minutes last night. The way she rebounded with strong hands. The way she used her height. Her footwork. She is a lot further ahead than I thought. She looks so much better that Piath did last year. I would love to see her work herself into the rotation. Coach would too.
@@alanlee3236 yes, totally agree. Once she catches up with her learning and understanding of college level defense, at least up to or pass Juhasz, which shouldn't take long, she'll be in there.

Thing is Uconn doesn’t put all the apples into one basket. The bench is literally stacked with 4-5 ⭐️ players he won’t play and some he does who let’s be honest haven’t lived up to the hype. It sounds like Geno needs to retire and turn over the keys to someone who can motivate and get the best out of these players. Geno has had a great HOF career but everyone's days at their job come to an end.
One poor performance in which 4 of their players are injured and another left the team mid-season is not reason to declare their coach should retire. At the very least, wait and see how the rest of the season goes.
This all came back to bite you in the asshole Geno! Why don't you play your bench. I just don't understand that coaching?! You have players leaving because you only play 6-7 players sometimes 8. You blow out opponents but yet you still have girls that don't even take their sweats off. Good luck! Your going to need it and you won't win another national championship. Time to move on
So easy to second-guess the coach, isn't it? Even the one who's won more championships than anyone at any level (except pro where he is tied). If you are a UConn fan, you'll know that Geno only plays players who bring it in practice. That's just the way he coaches, and it yields consistent results. When players go half speed in practice, they get no playing time. Players have to mature too, you know. Otherwise guess what? They're only high schoolers; girls trying to compete against women. In the end, this loss is probably good for them. I bet you one thing for sure: Saylor Poffenbarger is regretting that she didn't work harder and then ultimately transferred to Arkansas. This could have so been her time!
@@alanlee3236 yes it is easy! Please tell me how a loss could possibly be good for any team? You lose, you lose not only your ranking but a possible good seeding. Loss good? And I take it you've been to all of UConns practices!? By the way how's that consistent result working out for Geno now and couple of years back? You say players have to mature too. And guess what...coaches have to coach ( as you say they're only high schoolers) these girls too. And by the way, thought we were talking collegiate players? @@mikemichael734 "Please tell me how a loss could possibly be good for any team?" OK sure. Pull up a chair. The LA Lakers were positively blown out of the first game against Boston in the NBA Finals. They came back to win game #2 and the title-winning game #6 at Boston Garden, which at the time was an almost impossible feat for any visiting team. Kareem-Abdul Jabbar testified the Game 1 loss was the best thing that could have happened to them. Tom Brady and the New England Patriots were once humiliated by Buffalo 31-0 in their season opener. They came back with a vengeance and beat opponent after opponent all the way to a Super Bowl victory. The Baltimore Colts were so angry after their Super Bowl loss to the New York Jets that to a man, they committed themselves to get back to the Super Bowl and win. And they did just that, defeating the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl V. A loss can be exactly what you need to "wake up", get rid of complacency, refocus and determine to win again! Gosh.....old Geno isn't as fantastic a coach as he was when he had his All-American player? Hard to believe that he isn't quite as smart as he thinks he was.
There's nothing anyone can do if a player can't make an uncontested layup in the middle of a game. You can coach to 'til the cows come home, but if your players don't play up to their own averages, there isn't much you can do aside from changing the players.
What you call negative seems to just be realistic to me. He's just speaking the truth. I didn't hear one thing he said that wasn't true. You just lost to an average offense, and you're about to play 2 ranked teams with the team scoring 5 points in the 4th quarter. That's pretty bleak to me too.

CD played half the game but got very few touches, she could help this team offensively if she were more involved.
Where will this team be ranked in March Te h will be top 20 team
There is no true Point Guard or Leader on this team. No Moriah Jefferson or Crystal Dangerfield heroics to save the day. Right Boneyard? LOL.
That & y'alls bigs play too pretty & soft they spend more time on the perimeter than in the paint
@@stephenholmes7322 And that’s what he wants Post players up top. I myself don’t get it
@@stephenholmes7322 Hate to admit it but yeah.
The seniors lack of composure to lead this team is not shocking anymore. Its the norm. Hasn’t happened ever for Geno!!!
Geno will figure this out. A new star will be born
A bit more losses could hurt them in the overall ncaa tournament because of where they would be seeded and who’d they play.
And being in the Big East should help them keep their head above water until they can get some more players in the rotation.
Deberry next on the transfer block
I coached girls basketball,to have all this talent is a coaches dream
Uconn always gets the best recruits.10 deep is every coaches dream
Page shouldn't have gotten hurt cause she shouldn't of been in the game. It was over
Just because you coached doesn't make you the expert. You're a person who's never won a national championship while he's won 11.
And players get hurt. She didn't get hurt because she stayed in the game too long. She was just walking up the court by herself.
How much did you like being second-guessed while you were coaching? If want to impress somebody show the same courtesy.
I keep hearing people say how great a coach Geno Is, but I have to wonder why your best player is out there when the game is over, this is the perfect time to give those players you say are just there a opportunity to prove their worth ,Instead of coming in to hold the ball with 10 sec.left . By the way when was the last time U CONN won a NCAA Title,Oh Yeah ( 2016) reminds me of a song, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY.
IT'S ONLY ONE GAME. TEAM DOESN'T NEED THE COACH TO BE NEGATIVE. THAT COULD BE DEVASTATING. EVINA AND CHRISTYN ALWAYS .SAY "I'M A LEADER, I HAVE TO STEP UP." THEY DON'T. WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO AALLYAH--FUMBLING,BUMBLING, CAN'T EVEN MAKE A LAYUP. WHAT A DISAPOINTMENT DORKA HAS BEEN, HER DEFENSE IS NONEXISTENT. ALL THESE HIGHLY TOUTED RECRUITS NEED TO STEP UP.
Dude what's with the shouting. Some good points but please...
It's the player's... Were is the talent???
I think ododa has SUCKED from the beginning wasted recruit for geno on that one imo
Shut up! She stepped up and she do what she do. Yall love to jump down her throat.
Couldn’t disagree w/ you more. If the other two seniors showed the poise & gumption she has shown this year they’d be in a different place. Christyn is constantly driving into places where she can’t get out & Evina just disappears for some reason. And Edwards needs a sports psychologist
@@KelzKelz Agreed. She was one of the few bright stars last night. Everyone can't be as smooth and polished as Paige. Liv has been playing REALLY well this season.
@@jerrykibbe6363 Check, check, and double-check!!! Love Christyn but wish she could see the floor better. E? Where the hell are you? And I hope they can book that appointment quickly for Aliyah. PLEASE! This woman was already a beast at this point last year. I think something must have gone wrong over the summer. Maybe something at Team Canada because she got so little playing time.
@@alanlee3236 yep, obvious she didn't put in the individual work necessary to take her game to the next level during the off season. (Same for Evina and Christyn). You can see she's struggling to "up and under" - timing, foot work, angles- all off. Should have that move down by now.
This is what happens when you put all your apples into one player.
Thing is Uconn doesn’t put all the apples into one basket. The bench is literally stacked with 4-5 ⭐️ players he won’t play and some he does who let’s be honest haven’t lived up to the hype. This team should be amazing given the talent. Last year they were mediocre at best but Paige literally dragged their ass to the final 4. Same thing start of this season. You could literally see the work rate and hustle of Paige vs her teammates this year, It’s night and day. I can’t see them turning it around this season
@@k-ron7403 Thank you @K-Ron. I swear I wonder what game people are watching. Uconn doesn't design plays for individuals. They don't teach iso basketball. All players are supposed to 5-tool players. Like I said earlier, I'm sensing a little frustration on your (jazzyj) part at all the love that Paige gets.
Loss good? No, no loss can possibly be good for your team. You play to win and not lose and walk off the court with the attitude of, oh well we lost that game but it'll help us. Shit! And I take it you've been to all of UConns practices!? By the way how's that consistent result working out for Geno now and couple of years back? You say players have to mature too. And guess what...coaches have to coach ( as you say they're only high schoolers) these girls too. And by the way, thought we were talking collegiate players? Women's basketball has caught up to Geno and his, play only 6-7 players and don't maintain a deep bench is now burnt his ass and he will as he is now going to pay for it. What have you done for me lately, sound familiar?
It has happened time after time after time.
I rest my case.
@@kvernon1 pulled up a chair and still haven't figured out how a loss helps. If you are a dumb ass like you that needs a loss to wake you up then you need help elsewhere. For people like me it's called hard work to succeed not to lose and suddenly slap myself in the face and say, oh well I lost that game but that's ok it'll wake me up. It doesn't matter how you play the game it matters whether you win or lose. You play to win. You don't play to lose a game and say as a coach, we needed to lose that game people to wake our silly asses up. That is just so fucking stupid. Their are millions of games played and since your a genius on lose a game to fire you up how about list all the games that teams have lost and then fell into the losing mode and couldn't stop it. You go by what the media and people like you say. How about do yourself a favor and go ask a great coach, " coach it's a good thing you lost that game now that will fire up the team and you'll win a vengeance like the new England Patriots did. Yes sir! I'll wait for your full report otherwise, go fuck yourself just like that coach will say to you, loser!!
I can’t believe how negative he is! Hard to win without Brianna Stewart coach!
he’s won 7 national championships without Brianna Stewart lol
What you call negative seems to just be realistic to me. He's just speaking the truth. I didn't hear one thing he said that wasn't true. You just lost to an average offense, and you're about to play 2 ranked teams with the team scoring 5 points in the 4th quarter. That's pretty bleak to me too.
I’m just saying that saying how horrible they played in public doesn’t help them! Those girls know they played horrible! I think the main issue is just because some sports info center branded them as 5 star recruits doesn’t mean they are!
UCONN has recruited 1 good player since they recruited Katie Lou and Collier back in 2015...lol
