If cops see a nice car they will find any reason to pull you over. Usually. They'll follow you run plates, look for any little thing they can pull you over for even if you're driving safe.

He’s not bullshitting, that’s Texas not Columbus Ohio. Certain cities are more relaxed. Also don’t give up so much voluntary info. Keep it simple. They don’t need to know your plans, lifestyle,etc.
Ticket for a first time offense on the plate cover is straight jealousy from the cop........ Thats a simple have it removed warning & the If stopped again for the same issue then ticket for sure no questions. However ticket for that is INSANE wasting time on both ends really.....
It's the car, but that license plate thing is real. They made that a law a few years back. Before you could have any plate cover you wanted even if it covered the state. Don't be discouraged in Texas. You can do whatever you want in Dallas. Unless you're murdering people they don't give a shit

The plate cover cannot obstruct the state or number. Just dont have a plate cover, that simple, fortunately the municipal court will dismiss the ticket once you show its removed.
