- Raja Petra Kamarudin, founder and editor of online news blog Malaysia Today, gives this lecture entitled 'Beating Malaysian Authoritarianism with People Power: A Blog Activist's Tale' at The Australian National University on 2 March 2011 .
RPK (as he's usually known online) is Malaysia's most famous online political activist, and a forceful advocate of transparent, accountable government. His website Malaysia Today hosts many allegedly official documents detailing government corruption and scandal.
He speaks as chairman of the Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM), which is now working towards full representation in Malaysia's 13th general election.
UMNO wants to revive and re-engage Malaysians disillusioned with an UMNO-dominated federal government and return them to a government that holds fast to the spirit and intent of the Constitution.
With the next general elections looming this year, there's a palpable sense of urgency.
MCLM is driven by human rights lawyers and other professionals, political veterans, civil society activists and ordinary citizens with social justice in their sights, targeting a corruption-free, transparent government, free and fair elections and the end to racial politics.
Raja Petra should contest in the next G.E,even if he is doing it from overseas..
he was spot on bout the things he mentioned what the people of Sabah and Sarawak want
I like this. We need more people like Raja Petra and Malik Imtiaz.
If we agreed with his vision in which he has sincerely reaching out for us to vote for a better malaysia. Let us all who believe in his crusade, give our votes for change....I do
the next GE, i'll be voting~~
Raja Petra & Haris Ibrahim should contest in the next election too. Even as independent againts BN or Pakatan. We will support you. (Any part of KL or KG Raja Uda, Klang).
'Freedom after speech' is a classic
I'm proud of him.
It's time for Anwar to wake up
excellent speech
i could hear him speak all day...
1:24:30 epic ever, i actually laugh out loud! good one RPK :)
Good onya, mate!
i want the malaysia to be free and have its human right.
lets make a choice for the better of tomorrow,
if not there will be heart break of the tomorrow,
the voice of tomorrow still not yet being seriously taken,
so tell all to make the final move,
and i really understood this man for the love of the next generation of us !
More people needs to watch this!
@MrMikesnewman: I don't think it came across that way, or that the crowd was making light of his message by giggling. He is a passionate man yes, but as you can see he has a keen sense of humour, and it was very clear to me that he used sarcasm to get his point across. The audience merely responded naturally to the sarcastic comments, as intended.
Its simply starts with a simple change..only when the bumiputra's (the majority) voice out that all Malaysians be treated equally like how the black american's fought 4 their civil liberties its only then with that understanding we can be truly united as true Malaysian..
Is anyone gonna start giving up their "bumiputra" status to be equal as every other Malaysian after half a century independence? Be proud together and say we are Malaysian! All the pity/sad stories is just pointless!..
god bless RPK!
"Controversial is my middle name" 3:25.. Nope, that's your first name. First you say Najib ended Altantuya then, nope, it was Anwar's game to grab the throne...so, controversy na,contradiction is your middle name and bogus blogger is your last.
