I have had palpitations since I was a teenager. I am now almost 50. I am in the best health of my life but was convinced that I could fall over dead at any moment, for all of these years. I recently had my first cardio related panic attack. I found your videos and I am so grateful. When I am worried, I listen to you and your personality is kind, friendly and caring. Listening to your videos calms and reassures me that truly, nothing is wrong and I am okay. Thank you... so very thank you.

Periodically, for a few days to a couple weeks, my heart will skip beats. It feels like it is flip flopping and my pulse matches what I am feeling in my chest. Sometimes there are twinges of pain, sometimes no pain. Then I can go months with no palpitations. Occasionally, I will get a fast heart beat for about 10 seconds and then it goes back to normal. Recently, I was exerting myself and my chest was pounding and skipping lots of beats for a few minutes. No physical symptoms like dizziness. My resting heart rate drops below 60 sometimes. I am active. In the low 50's when I sleep. @@0xArkemi

As a successful cardiologist, you might be floored to hear that my doctor simply said, "Lots of people walk around with arrhythmia and don't even know it." That was all the assurance I got that I wouldn't drop dead from my newly - manifested heart concerns. People with "mild" cardiac issues should be shown this video. It helps a person with no medical background feel more at ease, and less like they're walking around with a ticking time bomb that could go off - or stop! - at any moment. Thank you!

As an example, I was at the office of my cardiologist today for an appointment where I had just completed an EKG five minutes before he came in to talk to me. When he looked at the EKG and listened to my heart he informed me that I was currently in a state of Atrial Fibrillation. I had no idea that this was going on at the moment and told him that I felt fine and didn't feel that anything was amiss. Not all heart problems cause angina (chest pain), weakness, tiredness, or shortness of breadth.

Folks, I went through the same problem once. Terrified my heart was going to burst when it beat over 200 times a minute.
I went through a procedure called radio frequency ablation where they use radio frequency to destroy part of the heart tissues causing my tachycardia. It is a less than 30 mts. procedure where they insert a catheter into your heart and ablated the heart tissues causing the problem. Except for a sharp burning pain for a few seconds on impact, it was totally pain free. I was awake the whole time and watched the proceedings on the monitor.
Ever since then did not have a single episode of tachycardia. It has been over 20 years now and I am absolutely fine. So Good Luck to all my fellow sufferers. Get well soon.

    • @sofiapaulsdotterhenriksson6381
      @sofiapaulsdotterhenriksson6381 Рік тому +2

Same here. I had an EKG taken and my doctor told me that I have what is called "double beats" and he told me that it isn't dangerous and it's also normal and rather common. And these extra double beats also are a sign and proof of that the heart is functioning just well and normally. The "double beats" and what seems to be "skips" of heart beats are because of IF the Sinus knot fails in giving that electrical impulse for the heart muscles to contract as it shall, there are a several other cells in the heart (ventricel) that also can give the heart electrical impulses to contract and that steps in and substitute for the Sinus Knot and will give the heart that lacking electrical impulse instead of the Sinus Knot. Then the heart will beat extra between 2 normal heart beats. And after that it will take a little longer time until the next heartbeat will occur. And that is why it seems and sounds like the heart skips a beat. And, yes it occurs more often when we experience and are under stress, anxiety etcétera. So, most people can calm down and not worry!

I used to have episodes of tachycardia/ abnormal heart rhythm. Initially, I was put on blood pressure tablets but when the episodes became more frequent and longer in duration I was advised a procedure called radio frequency ablation.
In layman's terms it means that I had a short circuit in the electrical pathway in my heart. This was the cause of my arrhythmia. They needed to use radio frequency energy, something like we have in microwaves to destroy a part of the heart tissues causing my arrhythmia.
They put a catheter from my leg into my heart and ablated the tissues. It was a simple 30 minutes procedure. I was alert throughout and watched the procedure on the screen. The only pain I felt was when they actually burnt the tissues. The pain was bad but thankfully for just a few seconds and then gone, completely. That was all.
I have had not a single episode of arrhythmia ever since. My heart is absolutely fine. This was over 20 years back! Today with more research and advanced technology there is no need to fear heart problems.

I 'cured' my ectopics by taking betaine HCL before every meal, after watching your video on the gut/heart connection I came to realise that what triggers my ectopics is eating, particularly fatty foods, however it is a delayed response - happening hours after I eat a meal and I found taking betaine HCL which increases stomach acid reduces them significantly in my case
so thank you for making this kind of content, I was at my wits end not being able to lie down without having constant ectopic beats and having no idea why

Excellent job! I have PVC's, some NSVT's, and another arrhythmia that we weren't able to catch on the monitor that can last up to a minute or two with heavy exercise. I've done all the tests and your videos (this one in particular) have really helped me understand what's going on to put my mind at ease! I've learned more from your videos than 6 months going to my own cardiologist!

ILOVE THIS DOCTOR! I did check my heart many times in the last 5-6 years and I did a lot of tests, including blood tests, x-ray, heart echo, echo of the carotid, EKG, and Holter EKG, and I have seen maybe 7 or 8 cardiologist. Except for some extrasystole beats that are under 600 per 24 hours and mild hypertension, all is OK. Very rare (once every few weeks) I have a sudden series of faster and stronger 6-8 beats, that go away in like 2 seconds. This happens with no warning while I am resting or walking. No stress, no effort, no caffeine, no drinks, no sugar (except a banana on an empty stomach in the morning) no alcohol, no smoking, no spice, NOTHING. It just comes bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum, and goes away. NO sweat, no dizziness, no pain....just a bit scared by the feeling of sudden those beats. All doctors say I must not be worried but...I am anxious...this is my nature... So, this video is soooo good for me. Thank you!

Thank you for your technical yet understandable videos. Thank you for helping me to understand that every skip and flutter doesn't mean a trip to the ER. I've had skips and flutters for over 3 years now and have been able to reduce my heart rate from mid to upper 70's, to upper 50's and lower 60's thru exercise in that time. Thank you and others, for explaining some of the reasons for irregular heart beats and how to reduce or eliminate them thru diet and nutrition.

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH DR. GUPTA FOR YOUR IMPORTANT AND KNOWLEDGEABLE VIDEOS!!! Any time I have any concerns I come to your videos. You are making the world so much better by sharing your knowledge with us and I am so grateful. I recently went to a cardiologist but when I got there my bp was perfect. I mentioned my occasional heart palpitations and a sharp pain for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes (under 5). Your video has eased my mind.

Thank you so much Dr. Gupta, you are doing a great thing and helping many including myself feel more comfortable about their heart rhythm issues and educating at the same time. I have never had a doctor take the time to explain things like you, most just rush you in and out like an assembly line. Keep up the good work, you have a true heart for medicine.

Brilliant explanation. It would be interesting to hear what causes these sustained heart rhythm problems and what measures can be taken to address them. I am very grateful for the expertise and time spent on these health conditions. While we are advised not to self diagnose it is difficult to find a doctor who has time for such explanation.
