Very well explained! The back against the wall part is just brilliant! Thanks.

Fully agree that wall explanation is fantastic @@Swimtopian
OMG this is the best video on YT for backstroke beginner. The thumb out of the water and pinky in the water plus the wall explanation makes SO much sense to me, now! I've been scooping the water up incorrectly!😢😅😂
Glad it helps!
i agree!
You are such a good teacher for beginners - thank you so much for showing the step by step instructions , demonstrations , broken down and all - even the drills are just soooo helpful 🤩🤩 i use every step !!
i really enjoyed the Wall example !! And i watched on how to float on your back even and came back for the easier and simple things down to this !! 😄
Thank you, this step by step with different beginner options was very helpful. It is often difficult to combine movements all together and I think your process is much easier!
Glad it helps
The explanations are really clear. Thank you!

I'm so glad that I learned a lot of stuff on youtube, I spent $90 for an hour swim lessonst that I didn't learn much at all, now I learn so many for free :)
Wow thats a lot of money
So far, the best, neat and transparent explanation.. thankyou bro
Well explanatory. Very much thanks.
Great video ! Easy explanation and easy to follow!
Thanks. Glad it helps
I never knew that about the arm stroke needing to go out the side rather than down. And I’ve had swim lessons more than one place! Can’t wait to get to the pool to try this out. I recently decided to take up swimming for exercise at age 59. I’m good at swimming to have fun and not drown but not experienced at going from point A to point B efficiently.
Please try and let me know how you feel to have the arms going to the side in the water. Thanks
@@Swimtopian I tried this way today and it is so much better. It’s easier and a more efficient stroke.
@@thecatniplife Very good to know. Thanks for the feedback
Is that the correct way pro swimmers do ot it just designed for beginners at the learning stage?
It really helped me .. thank you

Watched this then tried it in the pool today. First time ever doing another stroke than breaststroke. It clicked when I pushed from the border of the pool and at the start I used the breaststroke kick since I'm more used to it. When I could it no problem, I changed to the proper backstoke kick. With the arms I slowely took them outwords and towards the body, just a little to make it a little faster. Will focus on the arms next time. Thanks!
Sir,0l it is the most easiest to learn any swimming stroke from your videos.🤩😎😀🤩🤩
Thank you for your kind words
Liked and sub.
Very informative. Which watch are you wearing?
Just a Casio watch
Intuitive
Thanks
Tomartow im going to do backstroke for the first time in my swimming class🙇♀️
Good luck
Thank you. How should I breathe doing backstroke?
You can breathe every 2 arm cycles or breathe anytime you like
Thank you for this, can you please help me? Water goes into nose and mouth and I choke in between my arm rotation stroke
Hi, you need to learn to breathe with your mouth and nose when swimming in backstroke. Also if you are splashing too much during your stroke rotation that could mean your body line is too deep below the surface of the water. It takes lots of practice to have your body line sitting as close to the surface as possible.
Its nice explaining i like how you did it. But im strugling with my nose problem, that always come water inside even im not inhale. How you can manage that thing sir?
Try using a nose clip to start with
Since my main stroke is the old over arm side stroke, I see everything in the pool. One thing I have noticed about the flutter kick in backstroke, many that have problems with not pointing their toes when doing freestyle, do a whole lot better when swimming backstroke. No clue as to why.
Another thing I have noticed is that pretty much all back strokers, even Olympians, will finish the arm pull by rotating their palm over and the final wrist whip aims straight down at the bottom of the pool. To me, your hand is slipping water/not getting full push when doing this. You do this. The part where you are up against the wall, you do it correctly as far as I am concerned. The final wrist whip should end up with your palm on your thigh so all of your push is going backwards rather than down.
So you are suggesting the final palm position just before lifting up for recovery is facing at the bottom of the pool or facing my thigh?
@@Swimtopian On your thigh, so thumb is already pointing up. If your palm is facing the bottom of the pool, all the energy from that little wrist snap goes straight down rather than back towards the wall. I used to do back stroke flutter kick lengths just learning the final half of the arm pull. Out to the side and then to the thigh. You can feel a difference. I also have a thing about bubble plumes, since they are such good indicators of what is happening. The bubbles on the palm down go straight to the bottom of the pool. It is some thing that any freestyle coach would correct if you were doing it, but no one seems to think about it for back stroke. In freestyle they say to keep your fingers pointed to the bottom of the pool for the entire pull, except for the last little wrist snap. So, for back stroke, I would say keep the fingers and palm pointed to the side of the pool for the whole stroke except last bit at the end where they point to the wall you are swimming away from. Hope that makes some sense.
Please let me know the tip to put my chest and body up in the surface since I can’t do it well when I float
Start with holding pool noodles with each hand. Kick slightly so your lower body can come up the surface. Ears in the water and eyes look straight up the sky.
When you get more comfortable release the noodles from your hands
Thanks for the quick response. I’ll follow it and see if I can do better since my legs sink when I move my arms now
During the backstroke is it ok for the water to seep through the ear? As both the ears dip a bit into the water I lose my balance (As ears play vital role in balancing of body) & fear shivers through the body and more water enter the ear canal.
Water in the ears cause distaste and fear to try backstroke again.
Can you say sth about the mentioned state?
Honestly I don't have that problem but I do know some swimmers face this issue. I would advise you to get a pair of swimming earplugs. They do help I was told
1:35 - The key stroke
hello can i ask how to do backstroke in deep water area - feet cannot touch the floor how to start please?
You can start with your feet and hands on the wall. Head look up the sky and ears in the water. Once ready then push off the wall.
Pls for the first backstroke technique how then should I turn wen I get to the edge of the pool
For beginners just do an open turn. That means swim till your hand touches wall, bring your legs to the wall and push off on your back
@@Swimtopian pls do you have a video of that

Average Joe is the best👌
I should change it to "Above Average Joe" right? 😂😂😂
When I only use my legs I don’t go staright i turn and make a circle
It happens to many swimmmers
One of my problems with my backstroke is inability for me to swim straight. Often times I swam in curve direction. Because I cannot see the direction of my swimming. Any tips to correct it?
This is a very common problems faced by many swimmers especially if you are swimming in an outdoor pool. Indoor pool you can gauge by looking at the ceiling.
You can tilt your head up and look at the starting point occasionally to check if you are swimming straight.
@@Swimtopian I had a few embarrassing moments where I started to swim backstroke from the deep area of the pool and end up in the shallow area where all the kids and mothers were swimming 😂😂. Btw, thanks for tips Joe.
But how do u know when ur done?
Grow a pair of eyes at the back of your head. Hahaha just kidding
I got 1st place at my swimming gala in school tysm
How are you breating??
On backstroke you would breathe the same rhythm as you would with freestyle. For me every 2 strokes 1 breathe
Good instructions and you explained well, thanks for your video!
Thanks for watching
How do u breathe without getting water in ur nose?
Breathe in and out with the mouth on backstroke
Head position u should have told how to keep it so that we don't drink water
Yes thanks for reminding. Please keep your eyes looking at the sky/ceiling then your head should be floating on the water

Try breathe with your mouth open when swimming on your back
