    I never knew that about the arm stroke needing to go out the side rather than down. And I’ve had swim lessons more than one place! Can’t wait to get to the pool to try this out. I recently decided to take up swimming for exercise at age 59. I’m good at swimming to have fun and not drown but not experienced at going from point A to point B efficiently.

    Watched this then tried it in the pool today. First time ever doing another stroke than breaststroke. It clicked when I pushed from the border of the pool and at the start I used the breaststroke kick since I'm more used to it. When I could it no problem, I changed to the proper backstoke kick. With the arms I slowely took them outwords and towards the body, just a little to make it a little faster. Will focus on the arms next time. Thanks!

    • @Swimtopian
      @Swimtopian  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi, you need to learn to breathe with your mouth and nose when swimming in backstroke. Also if you are splashing too much during your stroke rotation that could mean your body line is too deep below the surface of the water. It takes lots of practice to have your body line sitting as close to the surface as possible.

  • @hasanmuzakki_sastrainggris546

  • @robohippy
    @robohippy Рік тому

    Since my main stroke is the old over arm side stroke, I see everything in the pool. One thing I have noticed about the flutter kick in backstroke, many that have problems with not pointing their toes when doing freestyle, do a whole lot better when swimming backstroke. No clue as to why.
    Another thing I have noticed is that pretty much all back strokers, even Olympians, will finish the arm pull by rotating their palm over and the final wrist whip aims straight down at the bottom of the pool. To me, your hand is slipping water/not getting full push when doing this. You do this. The part where you are up against the wall, you do it correctly as far as I am concerned. The final wrist whip should end up with your palm on your thigh so all of your push is going backwards rather than down.

    • @Swimtopian
      @Swimtopian  Рік тому

      So you are suggesting the final palm position just before lifting up for recovery is facing at the bottom of the pool or facing my thigh?

    • @robohippy
      @robohippy Рік тому

      @@Swimtopian On your thigh, so thumb is already pointing up. If your palm is facing the bottom of the pool, all the energy from that little wrist snap goes straight down rather than back towards the wall. I used to do back stroke flutter kick lengths just learning the final half of the arm pull. Out to the side and then to the thigh. You can feel a difference. I also have a thing about bubble plumes, since they are such good indicators of what is happening. The bubbles on the palm down go straight to the bottom of the pool. It is some thing that any freestyle coach would correct if you were doing it, but no one seems to think about it for back stroke. In freestyle they say to keep your fingers pointed to the bottom of the pool for the entire pull, except for the last little wrist snap. So, for back stroke, I would say keep the fingers and palm pointed to the side of the pool for the whole stroke except last bit at the end where they point to the wall you are swimming away from. Hope that makes some sense.

    During the backstroke is it ok for the water to seep through the ear? As both the ears dip a bit into the water I lose my balance (As ears play vital role in balancing of body) & fear shivers through the body and more water enter the ear canal.
    Water in the ears cause distaste and fear to try backstroke again.
