    I’m so glad I found these videos. I am on a weight loss journey to lose 100+ pounds and swimming is one of my favorite exercises. I grew up in pools, lakes, and the ocean so being in the water and swimming is very comfortable. I had a brief stint on a swim team growing up and learned the basics. I have always wondered about my technique and these videos gave me great tips! I will totally video myself and submit to you for feedback. Thank you so much for these videos 🙏

      I'm incredibly happy to hear that you've found the videos helpful. It's fantastic that swimming is one of your favorite exercises. It sounds like you already have a solid foundation from your time on the swim team, so you'll make a quick progress.
      About the weight loss. I suggest you to check about intermittent fasting for faster progress. But don't forget to consult with doctors if you have any underlying condition. Remember that it takes time and dedication for weight loss as it is a way of life instead of one time goal.
      Please feel free to submit a video for feedback anytime - I'd be more than happy to help in any way I can. Send me an email on jonny@rocketswimming.com

    \OMG! ♥♥♥♥😍😍😍😍😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈
    You helped me drop SO much time in the mens 15 and over 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard backstoke short course american highschool standard pool time!
    For the 100 yard backstroke i went a 2:00 exactly. (Awh SO CLOSE to breaking 2 minutes!!)
    And for the 200 yard backstroke i technically got 5 minutes but i got disqualified because i was too tired at the end and started doggy paddling to the finish.
    Without you I wouldn't be able to make the times that i did and go to division 107 cif and 2-4 year old winter group championships
    You see, i used to swim with my pinky down and for some reason i couldn't drop time. After watching this video i realised that i can save SOOOO much time by just "throwing your hand backwards"

      Wow, that's incredible! Thank you so much for sharing your progress and success with me. I am thrilled to hear that my video has helped you improve your times in the 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard backstroke. It's also amazing to hear that you were able to drop so much time and even make it to division 107 CIF and 2-4 year old winter group championships! Congratulations!
      Don't worry about getting disqualified in the 200 yard backstroke - it happens to the best of us. It sounds like you were pushing yourself to the limit, which is a great sign of dedication and hard work. Keep up the great work, and remember to keep practicing and refining your technique. With dedication and perseverance, I have no doubt that you'll be able to break that 2 minute mark in the 100 yard backstroke and achieve even more success in your swimming career. Thank you for watching my videos and I wish you all the best in your future swimming endeavors!

    Hi Jonny. Thanks for these priceless videos. I am one of the swimmers who minimises the backstroke to 3 min per day. Its my least favourite. But two points I constantly hear about the backstroke.
    1. Its all in the hip. It should move along with the pull.
    2. Best to breath in through the mouth and out through the nose as not to get water in.
    What are your opinions? Especially with the hip movement.

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  12 днів тому

      I’m glad you find the videos helpful. Yes, hip rotation is crucial in backstroke. It helps generate power and keeps your body streamlined. Think of your hips and shoulders working together; as you pull with one arm, rotate your hip on that side slightly upwards. This rotation not only improves your pull but also makes the stroke more efficient and reduces strain on your shoulders. Keep practicing and give those tips a try!

    Thank you, how do you avoid water going up ones nose in backstroke

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  Рік тому +2

      You're welcome!
      Thank you for watching my backstroke video! To answer your question, one way to avoid water going up your nose during backstroke is to exhale continuously through your nose and mouth as you swim. This helps to create a constant stream of air, which can prevent water from entering your nose. You can also consider using nose clips or a well-fitting swim cap to help keep water out of your nasal passages. Lastly, you can try tilting your head slightly back so that your face is closer to the surface of the water, which can also reduce the likelihood of water entering your nose. I hope these tips are helpful to you, and happy swimming!

    Great video! I have been swimming mainly backstroke and a little freestyle for years/decades now. I find that I tend to deviate left and frequently touch the left lane line when I lap swim. I don't think its my head, I think its that my dominant hand is my right hand, and its causing the deviation to the left. What do you think?

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  Рік тому

      Thank you for watching the video and leaving a comment! It's great to hear that you've been swimming backstroke and freestyle for years. As for the deviation to the left, it's possible that your dominant hand could be causing this. When you pull with your right hand, it might be pulling harder or at a different angle than your left hand, which could cause you to veer to the left.
      One way to fix this is to focus on your body alignment and make sure that you're swimming straight. You can try looking at the bottom of the pool or using the lane lines as a guide to keep yourself centered. Additionally, you can work on your stroke technique to make sure that your right hand isn't pulling too strongly and causing you to veer off course.

    Hi rocket, when the hand touch the water, is it the back hand or the palm.

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  8 місяців тому

      In backstroke, when your hand enters the water, it should be with your pinky finger first, followed by your palm and the rest of your hand.

    I can't maintain stright line while moving on backstroke. I get deviated on either side. Please suggest.

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  12 днів тому

      This is a common issue. Try focusing on consistent arm movements and a steady kick. Keep your head still and look straight up at the ceiling, using it as a reference point. You can also practice with a lane line or a guide to help maintain direction. You'll improve with time and practice!

    My problem with Backstroke is that water gets into my nose making me very uncomfortable, making me cancel the backstroke from my set.

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  10 місяців тому +3

      You will have to time the arm movement properly. When your arm comes out of the water, they create a water wake which travels back toward your mouth. You have to breathe out at that moment as it will prevent water going in your nose. You can also use nose clips and breathe using your mouth. Keep your chin up. Let me know how it goes for you.

    Thank you so much for your videos. You explain the techniques with so much clarity. 🙏 I'd like your opinion on my backstroke.. I tend to go off center in my lane. If you watch me from above I probably look ridiculous. Is the problem the way I'm moving my legs? You mentioned to do a tight, fast kick.
    Thanks again:)

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  Рік тому

      Thank you for your kind words! To address your question about your backstroke technique, it's possible that your off-center problem could be caused by your head movement. Your head is like a steering wheel of a car, where ever your head turns, your body follows. Try to keep your chin up and head still and let me know how it goes for you, okay?

      I believe that one of your pull is stronger than the other. Also, keep your head straight and still for the entire stroke. Don't try to look to your side of back.

    • @RocketSwimming

      In big pools there are backstroke flags. Backstroke flags help swimmers easily detect where they are in the pool. If your pool don't have flags, try to stop early if you're not confident. Start counting strokes.

    • @RocketSwimming
      @RocketSwimming  Рік тому

      Yes, backstroke can definitely be a challenge, especially when it comes to staying in your lane! It can take some time to get the hang of coordinating your arm and leg movements while keeping your body aligned with the lane. Remember to practice regularly and to focus on your technique, and don't be too hard on yourself if it takes some time to get it right. With patience and persistence, you'll eventually master backstroke and be swimming confidently in a straight line. Good luck!

      To improve your balance and reduce splashing while raising your hand during the backstroke, try keeping your hand closer to your body and use a slower motion. This will help you maintain control and minimize water disturbance. Practice gradually increasing your speed as you become more comfortable with the motion.
