Sinatra truly THE VOICE of the 20th Century. None before could match his talent and probably never will again. Sure, there are many singers out there, and some of them are also great, but Sinatra was a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon that will never be repeated. That's why it's great that we have all these recordings and videos, because the guy is gone now, but will never be replaced!

My favorite version of this song. The players on this record are no doubt the most talented, experienced, and lauded musicians in popular music. You've heard them even if you don't know them! Fantastic!
I love many of Sinatra's songs. However, Bobby Darin's version of Mach the Knife is superior. Use to think Ella Fitzgeralds version were best, but I think Bobby Darin's is, with Ella a very close second. Even Sinatra said Darin version were the best.
I did get to see him a couple years after this. Songs that he belted out were great, the softer ones merely really good. More like a combo so not the big sound. I feel really fortunate to have seen him live
There are no words that could fully express the greatness of Francis Albert Sinatra. You just need to listen to this and remember, he was and older “Lion in Winter” but still great.
This was when Frank and Quincy were working on the album 'L.A. Is My Lady.' It's a cut from the video that was released in conjunction with the album. While they were filming, Michael Jackson came into the studio to watch and they both posed for the cameras in between takes.

Such a good singer, his timing - you think he's going to miss the cue and hits it right at the last moment and the risk he takes with he pitch of some note and gets away with it, he was was better than most appreciated.
Damn - this was 1984, way past Frank's heyday and yet he was still kickin' ass! Frank and that gang was really in my parents era and I got them tickets to see him in the early 80s, then I got to see him with my mom in that late 80s. I miss those days so much. Nothing's ever perfect, and I grew up with a clear sense of what's morally and ethically right and fair as opposed to what was wrong. I clearly remember my brothers teasing me because I was always crying ' it's not fair', whenever I saw injustice. My 67yo ass is still outraged by the injustice I am seeing happening now and I would like to say my peace. Shame, damn shame on every single one of you Republicans that has allowed Donald Trump to represent the Republican Party. Shame on you all for allowing him to be a legitimate and viable candidate for people to vote for, after you all saw him throw his VP out to be hung for doing his duty to the Constitution. Shame on you all to continue to support a candidate for President who continues to publicly disrespect every single system of the American government when it doesn't go his way, and then turns around to praise it when it hurts his adversary. It is so glaringly clear that trump is wholly unfit to hold the office of the presidency, and it's up to the leaders in the Republican party to make that call. I can literally hear Nixon screaming up from his grave, 'what the hell is wrong with you guys!' And for the first time, I would agree with him.
Even though Franks voice was gone he brings a particular sense of musical style which was his own that makes this piece unique, Quincy Jones and band add the sauce.
I have this vinyl LP I bought not long after it was released in the '80's. I found it in a videotape store (does anyone remember "Blockbuster?" This is good, and it about as good as it gets. I would encourage any of you to rent/buy the CD. It's entitled something like "The making of an album: LA Is My Lady". It goes into detail about how the record was produced, arranged, and conducted with commentaries by Quincy Jones, songwriters the Bergmans, and some of the band members like Ray Brown and Lionel Hampton. 🎺🎶
Love Frank! He's the absolute greatest singer that ever recorded songs PERIOD! However, he was not pleased with this vocal rendition. He went to the studio and did another lyrical version of the vocals where he NAILED it. The musical track is exactly the same!
This song was once owned by Bobby Darin until this thrilling rendition by Francis and Quincy. As the orchestra builds with each stanza, you know it’s going to reach a crescendo with Francis never missing a beat. Marvelous.
