I was in the audience that night. I toured with Frank Sinatra for almost 14 years as his opening act and was with him for about for about a year at that time. Frank invited me and my then wife to the event. In those 14 years there were take away moments just to numerous to count. This night stands out as one I knew I would never forget. In this room were the biggest stars in Hollywood who I had seen so many times in movies as a little boy growing up in Harvey, Illinois. When Richard Burton began to speak with that magnificent tone of voice a hush came over the room and many were brought to tears because of the content and delivery but also because they had been blessed by Frank's benevolence as well. Time and time again I witnessed his acts of kindness. As I have said so many times "Frank Sinatra wasn't a Saint but he sure did some saintly things" Rest in Peace dear friend. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of you.

@cistv brown Let's use 1970 as a benchmark for his last hit. He was 55 at that time. Not many singers maintain their voices and popularity for that long. I made the mistake of believing his greatest hits were his greatest vocal performances. Definitely not. What'll I do, I'm a Fool to Want You, The Summer Knows, Hello Young Lovers, September Song, I Think of You. Dr. Martin Luther King wept during Sinatra's VC of Ol Man River. If you don't like him or his singing then you of course are entitled to your opinion. Avg he was not.
@cisty brown Better add to your list. When he broke through in the 40's he was the Presley or Beatles of the time. He was a recording star, concert and nightclub performer, actor, movie star, television performer and talk show host. There wasn't much in entertainment that he couldn't do.

By some unfathomable coincidence I have manage to miss this speech until today. Today, I needed my spirit lifted, today I felt so very low, today I felt so so tired, and then this; this magnificent wordsmith filled me with humility, restored my spirit with deep joy, that one man can speak with such command about his dear friend has moved me in a way beyond explanation.
What an incredible speech by Richard Burton and a great tribute from one friend to another. Two of the greatest talents of the 20th century. Both pure class performers and both legends of stage and screen. Wow!
I cannot put into words how I feel listening to Burton's incredible voice. I'm covered with shivers. What a magnificent tribute to the great O' blue eyes.
I am proud to say my father was a school boy friend of Richard Burton, he was an outstanding actor, narrator and a wonderful wonderful human being. There are certain people in life who just breeze along , they are able to do a multitude of things with their life and are accomplished at many many things. Richard was a true genius , a gentleman who loved what he did and boy did he do it well. He was from a different generation, almost old before his time but the one thing with Richard was as my Dad said he never forgot where he came from, he was proud of where he grew up but also grateful for the upbringing. These so called movie stars of today need to look at these old films in black and white and with their wonky sets and bad lighting and realise the one thing they could do was act, tell the story bring it to life. There will NEVER be a generation of actors like these greats who have died and that is sad, so so sad.
Like many I've seen lots of tributes down the years given to the great and the good but I don't think I've ever heard one as powerful as this one. Oh and I could listen to Burton reciting the phone book .....
This is what class is...sharing his gifts as he is able to ...to help those in need...not for recognition, not for applause, not for his ego - but rather to just help because he can. Thank you Mr. Anonymous...Thank you Frank - for everything blue eyes.
If credit is sought good deeds are undone , Sinatra sought none. He clearly had a heart equal to his wonderful voice, and recieved without expectation this beautifully worded and spoken tribute by his friend.
Aa a 74 yo and having listened to this for my first time It truly left a tear in my eye for a speech given by someone so worthy to someone worthy of every word. Bless you both
Every once in a while I replay this moving tribute to Mr. Sinatra by Mr. Burton. Each man had voices so distinctive you could never mistake who they were. The diction, the beautiful vocabulary and the timber of Burton’s voice is deeply moving, a reminder of a time when Hollywood had some class. And say what you will about Sinatra…for his legendary charity and anonymous generosity this tribute was well deserved and no one could have delivered it with more dignity and elegance than Richard Burton.
This is the best by far one of the most beautiful heartwarming speeches to a Man with so much respect for others from a Man that has enormous respect for his good friend to both R.I.P
That is how to give a speech with poise humanity dignity and courage and above all kindness the mark of a wonderful actor who is no longer with us he is sadly missed
My way is a song about Frank Sinatra - each lyric and each note is describing Frank's life...he sings it with the passion and emotion as though he is showing us his soul. No one can sing this song like him, he owns this song..he lived this song. This is his legacy. This is his story. Frank we love you ...thank you for everything you did for those in need - you paid more than enough rent for your time on this planet. You will never be forgotten.
To listen to Burton orate that piece of majic about frank was captivating. What beautiful words. Could see frank never missed one word that was said, and was moved by it all. Frank Sinatra missed, Richard Burton missed. Thankfully these little gems still exist to remind us of these great men of the golden age. Thankyou.
For all of you Richard Burton fans, there is a video you can upload on Utube where he is singing “Camelot” and is visibly moved by the response of the audience. Really worth seeing.
I remember reading Lee J Cobb had heart surgery Sinatra paid the bill. Lee Remick husband had heart surgery she went to pay the bill. It had already been paid by Sinatra. Lee Remick said years later at the time she didn't know Sinatra and up till that point she had never worked with him till many years later.
Jerry Lewis is on record as saying, that Frank Sinatra would call friends like Dean, Judy and Sammy etc...and go to hospices, children's homes and hospitals on Christmas day to entertain patients...without any cameras or media there. He did it out of the goodness in his heart not for fame or kudos. David Niven is also on record in his book saying Sinatra helped him out in a huge way, and it wasn't financial. Frank also paid Lee J Cobb's medical bills even though they weren't close friends. When Cobb asked why? Sinatra replied, "because I like your work". Frank had power and influence that even helped get JFK elected as President, he had his flaws no doubt, but his selflessness and generosity knew no bounds. Great and fitting speech by Richard Burton.
😂. My dad , Dan Sandberg, founder TVC film lab worked w Frank on “Main Event “, Contract on Cherry Street. Dad was a Friar , Frank endorsed . Dad told me Franks heartfelt generosity. Giant of a man . God bless
When Sammy Davis Jr lost an eye in an auto accident, his Friend, Mr Sinatra paid his medical bills and supported his return to performing and made sure that he was given every accomodation to perform and stay in Las Vegas hotels despite their prior policies with black performers. He was a Giant of a proponent for equal/civil rights for All Peoples and a Tremendous supporter, friend of the Jewish people and of Israel. A True Giant....G-D BLESS
This is one of the greatest speeches I have ever heard in my life! Richard really out did himself . Having had the rare privilege by accident to have met Mr Sinatra he was kind and gentle greeting everyone in the room one by one. He didn’t have to but he did. I knew he had helped fellow friends and actors but unaware of his many charities. Addio Francesco !
I had a Welsh friend and when he read out loud his voice became Burton, something wonderful about the speaking voice of the Welsh, this tribute was magnificent and Frank deserved it, every word
The sheer emotional force of this poetic tribute is breath-taking. The pace, eloquence and magnetic quality is spell-binding. The Three simultaneous wows at the end mark it out as something very special. I don’t think I’ve heard a speech at an award ceremony so memorable, so powerful, so vivid. Extraordinary.

Words could never be truer, as a cancer patient in the late eighties and early nineties in NYC I heard some of what Mr Anonymous had done for cancer institutions and patients throughout the years silently. God bless Frank Sinatra a true giant of a human being 🙏🏻😎
Frank Sinatra in his career raised more money ..over a BILLION dollars in today's money...and paid the bills for more famous people and just plain people.....than any other entertainer in history....Sinatra also paid ALL expenses out of his pocket when he performed for charity and did his world charity tours.....and he paid far more than he had to ..... Jerry Lewis called him the most generous man in the world....

I had the good fortune in 1983 to meet Ella Fritzgerald on Miami Beach one New Year's Eve.... she was playing with a combo in a small hotel on Ocean Drive. She appeared to be in her mid70s. During her break, over coffee we talked about music. I asked her who was her favorite male singer. She instantly replied .. " Frank Sinatra " !! She also said they dated for many years and would even go to the Opera together in NY on Saturdays! I got to know that their love for music and respect for each others talents was immeasurable!! Years ago , in the mid 90's , I was down on my luck. Homeless in Santa Monica called. There was a priest, father Chase that came out to the beach ⛱ every Sunday and he and his friends would serve a terrific meal. And with the meal he gave everyone a dollar, sometimes $5 or $10 dollars. And one day I asked him where the food and money came from . Burton’s voice truly makes the hairs at the back of your neck stand up. Sadly missed!
He could make a trip over to the Circle K for a fill up, and a candy bar, sound like an exciting, sea faring adventure.
Burton was a genius, amazing actor.
He had the most appallingly beautiful oratory.
It's Chilling because He appeared in the Film 1984' year and died short after ....I believe!
The Golden Age was Over by then but I'm glad they were Alive while I was 18 at the time .
You can see Frank listening intently to every word his friend is saying because he respected him so much.
Yes
You just know the old fart loved his pals brown-nosing him!
No one speaks as eloquently and with such a great command of the English language as Richard Burton ……..Such an amazing tribute! These giants of the entertainment industry are truly missed and will never be replaced 😢
The greatest speaker in the world honors the greatest singer I could listen to the two greatest voices forever!
Damn!! There will never be another tribute to match this one. I watch it over and over. ❤
So do I. Not one word wasted.

What a voice this man was gifted, a true Welsh man, and his timing, his fantastic choice of words..he can deliver a speech like no other ..mesmerising especially when on the screen,..sadly missed, but a great inspiration to any young would be actor..
Don't forget his PAUSES! Just as important as that God-given Voice.
I said the same…a true Welshman
I love Richard Burton forever. The sound of his voice....😱💋💯❤️
The end of 2022 and somehow I've never seen this before. Tears in my eyes. One great honouring another in the most incredible way.
Called respect
I have yet to ever hear a voice that has ever stirred me as much as Richard Burton 😋
That was a magnificent tribute. Two great men. Class acts. We shall never see the likes of them again. ❤
Miss this class of entertainment. Now we have people who egos have gotten the best of them.
Wow!

Moving fan spveep❤
That might be the most beautiful tribute I've ever heard in my life and I've heard many over the years.

simply magnificent-two great men- just wonderful- thanks for sharing- - peace to you all- rest in peace
From one legend to another total respect....🎉
The voice and intelligence of Richard Burton are beyond compare. God bless him always. Sadly missed and irreplaceable 😢
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Burton has way with words , so special . Best thing in life to have someone we can call a friend.
What I loved most about Mr Sinatra was what he said about Joe Louis at Joe’s funeral. He said “He was a credit to his race, the human race”.
one of the best voices ever - Richard Burton. And one hell of a speech
Agree
Fantastic speech! Richard Burton that voice those words amazing !!

What a brilliant speaker Richard Burton was.
I cannot put into words how I feel listening to Burton's incredible voice. I'm covered with shivers. What a magnificent tribute to the great O' blue eyes.
That speech alone should got Mr.Burton an Oscar.
Amen
Richard Burton has a voice that is to die for!!!!
I swear to God I didn't breath and my eyes didn't move
turning that beautiful speech.
Seems like it was always better in the old days Hanks not bad De niro,, Pacino. Nicholson, Pitt, Leonardo Dicaprio to name a few
Adored Richard Burton. I could listen to him all day.
The silence in the room & expressions on people's faces said it all. People like Burton & Sinatra are impossible to be replaced. RIP legends
Mr blue eyes 👀, there will never be another! God bless you & rest in peace!
That moved him. Such an amazing voice Richard Burton had. God's speed to you both
You can tell Richard Burton was a,stage actor he was used to performing before an live audience.
Like many I've seen lots of tributes down the years given to the great and the good but I don't think I've ever heard one as powerful as this one. Oh and I could listen to Burton reciting the phone book .....
Wonderful voice, its the Welsh that does it.

Two fella’s from the streets who’ve got more brains and class than any stuffed shirt ever had.
Two frauds pretending tough guys, more like. One a has been actor turned alcoholic, the other one a has beeen crooner turned a has been bore.
Burton's last public speech as it turned out. And what a great one it was. He was only 58 when he died. What a bloody loss.
Bless you both
What a beautiful tribute from one of the greatest orators to one of the greatest singers on the planet.
Now that's what you call a tribute!!! And very well deserved!!
One of the best speaking voices salutes one of the greatest singing voices. Magnificent. Perfect diction and great attitude! :D

What a speech! And what a delivery! Only Burton could deliver a speech like that.
What a beautiful and eloquent tribute to Mr. Sinatra's deep humanity and kindness.
Thankyou.
Sadly we have no close to these giants today. Only self absorbed no talents.
What a beautiful tribute.
For all of you Richard Burton fans, there is a video you can upload on Utube where he is singing “Camelot” and is visibly moved by the response of the audience. Really worth seeing.
He wasn't majic Craig but he was magic
That Richard Burton voice! His presence on any stage…..what a magnificent man!
One yr before his too early death
Two giants connecting through their singular talents and gigantic humanity ❤️👍👏👏👏✌️
This speech was well deserved, but Richard Burton could read a menu and be captivating, and absolutely amazing actor and orator.
That was a fine speech like one hears very rarely, Richard Burton was a man of considerable oratoy talent.
What a tribute, explaining, in part, why Frank Sinatra was one of the Greatest Men of the 20th Century.
Frank nowhere ever said anything about him being such a giver. So he was mister anomynous giver. A sinner but he cared!!
As great a man as he was. We’ll never know his true greatness.
@ Jay Lee 👍🏽
😂. My dad , Dan Sandberg, founder TVC film lab worked w Frank on “Main Event “, Contract on Cherry Street.
Dad was a Friar , Frank endorsed . Dad told me Franks heartfelt generosity. Giant of a man . God bless
Crikey, the antidote to Meghan Markle and all the others!

One was his wife Barbara
This is one of the greatest speeches I have ever heard in my life! Richard really out did himself . Having had the rare privilege by accident to have met Mr Sinatra he was kind and gentle greeting everyone in the room one by one. He didn’t have to but he did. I knew he had helped fellow friends and actors but unaware of his many charities. Addio Francesco !

I had a Welsh friend and when he read out loud his voice became Burton, something wonderful about the speaking voice of the Welsh, this tribute was magnificent and Frank deserved it, every word
And the singing voices of those marvelous welsh top tenors

The sheer emotional force of this poetic tribute is breath-taking. The pace, eloquence and magnetic quality is spell-binding. The Three simultaneous wows at the end mark it out as something very special. I don’t think I’ve heard a speech at an award ceremony so memorable, so powerful, so vivid. Extraordinary.
As a sound engineer for movies and music. You have no idea how perfect his voice and diction is sonically. Any microphone will do and it will cut through with no work. God it was an easy job 🎉for the engineers that worked with him
Words could never be truer, as a cancer patient in the late eighties and early nineties in NYC I heard some of what Mr Anonymous had done for cancer institutions and patients throughout the years silently.

True Story!!!
Wow! That was some speech by my fellow Welshman, the legend who is Richard Burton. As a Sinatraphile I was deeply moved to hear the words spoken about my hero. Ol' Blue Eyes has many critics, and I would urge them to watch this video, and better help them to understand the man from Hoboken. RIP Mr. Sinatra and Mr. Burton.
I would have Burton Taught in all UK schools, I'm English and have always been a pains to point out his Welshness! He was a one off.
And he told me frank Sinatra had an account set up specifically for that reason. I miss you ole blue eyes, mr anonymous 💙.
