    Hey guys! In this video I show and review a highly underrated camera that is fantastic for photography and content creation. I show pros and cons of the Canon EOS RP, sample footage, UA-cam footage, test video in 1080p and more. I also demonstrate the real time eye tracking autofocus, the dual pixel autofocus as well as dynamic range. This long term review is perfect for anyone looking for the best beginning photography camera, or those looking to start a UA-cam channel and looking for the best all around camera for under $1000.
    I'm here to talk about the Canon EOS RP and why you should buy one in 2021. The Canon RP is a full frame camera that's under $1000, which is insane because it has almost 80% of what the Canon EOS R has, but at a fraction of the cost! It's still really underrated and not many beginner photographers know about it yet, so I hope this video helps you understand just how good this camera actually is.
    So if your shooting for instagram, getting into photography and looking for your first camera, or looking to upgrade your beginner camera, then the Canon RP would be perfect for you because it provides pro level quality without breaking the bank. And if your on a budget and looking for something cheaper than $1000, then we recommend checking out our other videos on best mirrorless cameras
    I share my thoughts on the Canon RP - a full frame, budget friendly option that has been flying under the radar.
    It's a great value and one of the best cameras you can buy for $1000 or less. It also boasts an impressive sensor size at 24 megapixels and is capable of 4K resolution (although I only recommend 1080p). The Canon RP does lack some features found in higher models like IBIS and weather sealing, but overall it sits at number 1 for me because its such an amazing camera with such a low price tag.

    The canon RP has a feature where as you look through the view finder you can take you thumb and glide it on the right side of the touch screen to focus on various subjects…all without lifting your eye from the view finder. In the view finder you will see the focus box switch and lock onto whatever you slide you thumb across

    Nice Vid. I’ve had my RP for about 7months - colors, focusing/sharpness, and compactness are all A++. Even the lowlight/high ISO is quite solid. Only downsides are probably the battery life, slow FPS. But if one’s looking for a FF at a reasonable price, the RP is solid choice.

    • @cheeneep
      @cheeneep 2 роки тому +4

      @@ShaquilleNoel it really depends. If you shoot video, better go with Sony but if you're mostly a photo shooter, you can't go wrong with the RP. The RP is cheap but the good RF L lenses are expensive. Most of the cheap and fast RF lenses are primes, so if you prefer zoom lenses go with Sony as they have more 3rd party options from Tamron or Sigma. Other than those factors, the RP will not disappoint!

    • @pal54321
      @pal54321 Рік тому +1

      well its 2022 and canon RF lens prices are still extortionate and they've blocked 3rd party lenses for RF mount, so we should sll switch to sony.

    Hi, I'm writing this as of June 2023. I am into low light astro-photography. I was shooting with a used 6D that had great dynamic range and low light capabilities. But my 6D was old and I would get hotpixels sometimes. So I got the RP (it was cheaper than 6D mark ii and was mirrorless). In the 1 year that I have used it, I am beyond impressed by it. All my prime lenses for 6D work on RP with the adaptor. Dynamic range is not as good as 6D, but is good enough. My 6D is getter at capturing airglow than RP.
    Now, I am thinking of venturing into time-lapse for astro-photography where I can get away with shooting in 1080p without any cropping

      I had a Nikon d7200, now I'm looking for a camera that will be smaller but better. everyone praises the Sony A6400 but I'm not sure if it's a good choice. I like the Canon RP very much because the price with 24-105 4-7.1 great is. is Dynamic Range as bad as people say? Will it be better than Nikon d7200?

    While the RP may not have a joy stick you can use touch and drag while looking through view finder. You can set it up to use only right or left side, this way your nose won’t interfere or move focus point. This is a very easy and quick way to move focus point.

    I mine brand new in May and sold my Nikon D5300 and D5200, not even looking back on my decision AT ALL. Using it primarily for shooting my films, photography, and client work. I also figured out how to get the best out of 4k in 24fps and it's as if the crop isn't even there. I have ZERO gripes and it's also because I did my research beforehand and I never pass up on gems in any scenario. Good review by the way!

Not a professional, but still have a good little collection of EF lenses that I stopped using when my digital rebel died out on me --50 mm prime lens, a great 60mm macro lens, and no use for them! Haven't gotten a new body because I REALLY want a full frame camera.... This sounds like an awesome choice for me, your detailed video really helps! I only want it for pics of my girls and my own personal use, and being able to use my older lenses make it the perfect option right now... thanks!!

You don't have to bring the camera down and use the touch screen. Please do some research and you'll find this camera can do a lot more than you think it can. Great video. You raise some excellent points. I currently have older Nikon and Canon APS-C setups with 2 bodies each and a equal amount of lens. I have been shotting DX going back to the release of the Canon 20D. I still have numerous APS-C DSLR's . The only camera shop you can see cameras at these days around me is Best Buys. We were recently in Maul and while my older DSLR's did great in RAW, it was challenging when we went to evening functions, shows and a Luau. I went in to see the 90D, but I after not getting a new camera in 5 years, I would really like to experience Full Format and Mirrorless.
    I am an amateur photographer since the 70's and do mostly people and scenery photos. I also enjoy shooting RAW and putting the RAW images through Lightroom and Photoshop.
    There are numerous options. I am leaning towards the Canon RP or R6. Also I have not ruled out Nikon Z5 or Z6. The more I read the more confusing it gets. I love the feel of the Canon R6 in my hands. I don't love the price. I am really more into taking still photos as opposed to videos. So I am not concerned about 4K cropping. My major concerns about the RP is no protection of the sensor, cheaper build quality and potential dynamic range issues.
    So my 3 big questions that I can’t really answer 1) would the R6 be overkill. 2) Would the IQ be noticeably better on the R6? 3) Would I be better off getting the L glass with the RP vs the kits glass on the R6?
    Would welcome and appreciate feedback for from you since you seem very accomplished. Thanks

    • @DominicPhillip
      @DominicPhillip  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, thanks for watching and for the comment. Hard to answer your questions but I'll try my best. R6 may be overkill depending on what you shoot. But that's really subjective, so you have to self evaluate that one. But if it were between the two, I'd definitely spend the money on L glass with the RP. It will be loads better than the R6 with kit lenses. My philosophy is always to go GLASS OVER BODY! I can shoot a $500 camera with L glass for a wedding right now. The IQ on the r6 will be better, especially in low light and speed with autofocus, but I'd still take the RP with good lenses anyway. Cheers

    Great review and I totally agree with you - even today, in 2022, this is the best full-frame camera for the money. The two things that I have an issue with are the 5fps rate and the battery life. The latter is somewhat easy to fix - just buy a couple of spare batteries (though you still have to change them). The low fps is, unfortunately, not something that can be dealt with. That said, I've still managed to get some good wildlife/bird shots with the RP, but it's hit and miss. If it had 20fps like the new R6, I wouldn't trade this for the world. Best regards!

    well i see the EOS RP and its capability of using EF mounts as a huge upgrade, sadly the EF/RF Filter Adapter cost too much still.
    But for example imagine buying the filtermount with your preffered filter you mostly need and add for 90$ a clear filter attachment. Its basically clear glass, expensive for sure, but your EOS R sensor is now pretty awesome sealed from dust!
    The EOS RP is coming next week, i cant wait to see the difference to my 550D i still use (and hate already, i think the sensor malfunctions partially already, the high ISO performance is already much weaker than i was used to anyways). For now the basic EF adapter will do it, but i hope for acceptable 2nd hand prices of this adapter/filter kit anytime soon.

      @@DominicPhillip i guess the possibility to „seal“ your sensor with a clear filter or the filter you need and no need for special filters for all your lenses are the main reason they are that expensive, sadly one thing they missed out: specialized filters! @@DominicPhillip btw i absolutely love the Eos RP - ofc, despite a lot better high iso performance than my 550D - i somehow think i still want a stabilized sensor - would only be the R6 as „cheap“ as the RP but „only“ 18MP and even better iso performance
      But in overall… im impressed, only the autofocus, made some „bad“ lenses usable again which were a desaster on my 550Ds 9 AF points, finally a nice and usable live view with awesome features like focus and shoot with tapping the area you want to focus and many other neat features.
      I mean with MagicLantern i had most stuff also on the 550D, but after getting used to the UI of the RP and optimizing it for my needs as good as possible, WOW!
      Biggest downsides in a nutshell:
      - battery life, got already 2 batteries, thinking about a 3rd (astrophotography beginner)
      - no electronic shutter except for full auto/scene mode. In some home/indoor usages where i shoot a ton of photos but probably 1-2% usable, i would love to reduce shutter wear (or how is this with mirrorless nowadays?!)
      - no in body stabilizer, not even 3 axis only
      - price… well, lets be honest, its still expensive as fk! But considering its still one of the cheapest ways to get into full frame… well, its just ok (not so canons filter and RF lens prices)
      And somehow, as i got a RF 50mm 1.8… i never believed i would want that, but i sent back the RF EF adapter within the last days possible because the multifunction ring on the RF lenses.
      I got now a EF adapter with the multifunction ring, awesome thing and this was worth 100€ extra because as soon i changed from RF to EF lens i missed instantly this ring (or refocused unintentionally, i love the idea of a focus ring with more usability than focussing)

      Thanks for watching and the comment! Do you find the adapter slowing down your AF at all?

    I’m looking to get this camera for little wedding work and Family portrait work. You think it would be good? Eventually down the line i will upgrade but i think this is a good start

      Definitely. It’s perfect for that. Just get extra batteries and good memory cards.
