I have the 5D MK IV and I wanted to replace my 7D MK II. So I decided to buy the RP. Sure, it is a slow camera, which is a bit disappointing. But be careful. It is still a canon full frame camera, with really good image quality. i do not regret it at all. I have tested all my EF lenses on it, and i can only say that this camera is underrated.
I'm planning to upgrade from my SL2/200D to a full frame. Currently I've 50 1.8 and 85 1.8 lens. I use camera 95% for photography (close up, headshot portraits, with bokeh).... I'm confused with 5dmiv, 6dmii and rp 😞
I just got an RP with 50mm F1.2. (I already have a 6Dii and a M50.) I'm delighted with the RP. For me the advantages over the 6D are the light weight, the EVF, the headphone jack, and the RF mount. I shoot video at 25p so the lack of 24p is not a big issue. When Canon brings out a 5D equivalent EOS R I'll get that and use the RP for a second camera. The 4K is good for interviews where you can punch in for closeups without using 2 cameras. BTW, that extension thingy would be good for mounting on a tripod with the 50mm F1.2. A battery grip would be a good option. Everyone has different likes and needs, but if you can't take good photos and videos with an RP, YOU have the problem, not the camera. But if you want a different or better camera, that's fine. Also a big thank you to all the haters out there, I got my RP with 50mm F1.2, 35mm F1.8, adaptor, spare battery and filters for the equivalent of US$3,400.00 + tax.
The 6D classic couldn't do wifi transfers of raw files. Can the Mark II that you're aware of? Shooting in-camera and sending raw to your phone to edit in Lightroom mobile is such a clutch game for instagram...
The RP may also be an option for a user of an older FF EF camera (I have been using the original 5D and 6D), that does not care about sports or video (only stills), already has good EF glass to use, and wants to move to a lighter mirrorless camera, suitable for travel photography.
amateur here, bought the rp with the 35mm lens as an update to my 5dii, i really like it, alone the autofocus upgrade is worth it to me, had to center focus recompose all the time and missed many shots on my kid and dog. low light is great too and the lightweight really has me bringing the cam along again after not bringing the 5d with me lately. Don't care what the haters say, i won't film much with it. didn't film with the 5d either. got a bunch of lenses that work fine with it and i'm very happy with it
I've not held/used an RP...but I tried using the Sony a7ii and a7iii and couldn't figure them out. I'm sure that I'll get should I spend more time with them ...but I picked up the EOS R and it was very intuitive (despite the mode dial)...in 5 min I was navigating it's functionality. As for the haters...when the 6Dmkii came out everyone said it sucked...I used it last year for a week, and was blown away by the quality of the images. I presume that the RP is victim of theirs as well.
@Silviu Vulcan no regrets so far, i really like the cam, plus the 35mm is awesome too. Been thinking of getting a 35mm for a while and couldn't be happier with it. The cam so far is great, sure battery life is a lot shorter than the 5dii but i bought the cam with a second battery and haven't had a day where i needed 2 batteries, one thing i also kinda notice is that the metering is sometimes a little inconsistent, but that might be something on my end. I have been looking into sonys as well but to be honest i was too lazy to do a whole system change, i have about 5 canon lenses which i really like and wanted to keep, they all work great with the adapter, also i'm probably too nostalgic to ever sell the 5dii so it will probably sit in my house waiting for a while cuz i didn't feel like using it after the purchase. I'd say go ahead and buy it, it's a great cam, fullframe is great too and you can keep both bodies in case you ever needed something for sports.as for the lenses, that's actually something where i would safe up to get a nice one, i have a 24-70 2.8, the first gen and it's great, buy good glass bodies come and go, cheers
@@KaReEdCa yeah it is intuitive, once you used canon before you're good to go with it. i really was looking into the 6dii when it came out but the focus system held me off the most, focus is great on the rp.
Same here was using 60D but i tried a friend's 5DMkii kinda wish mine is a full frame on a 35mm it's so wide compared to a crop frame camera. my only worry is EF adapter during auto focusing will it focus properly are you using one for EOS RP? i heard bad reviews about 6d mkii mainly it's video which i don't really care since i don't shoot videos with it. only thing that worries me now is the continuous shot. how slow is slow. need to put both camera photo and shoot side by side to tell the differences. idk if can survive with 60d probably can survive with EOS RP. another thing is the mount to third party lenses will it work?
Thanks for the review. However I would point out that the ergonomics are much different between the two cameras. I own a 6D and have played around with the RP at the local Best Buy. The 6D is far superior in my opinion, the button and dials placement is almost perfect, the feel of the camera in my hands, it is probably Canon's best effort there. The RP feels awkward and cramped. Change for the sake of change. Too bad.
Can we PLEASE stop judging these cameras on video specs? If they wanted it be used primarily for video, they would market it as such. Everybody wants every new release to shoot 10 bit 4:2:2 internal raw at 120p 4k with no crop. How about a kick ass photo camera that doesnt even shoot video? I'll buy that!
D.E. SIGNS I agree with you. To me, it’s analogous to HiFi audio. From my 2nd system to my reference system, I had a separate power amp and preamp. In the reference system I even had mono blocks (2 separate amps) and a phono step up. The reason is that with an integrated amp a small box is being called up to do the work of separate equipment. No integrated amp will ever perform remotely close the separates. If you want all the best of video and all the best in still, get dedicated equipment.
One other thing I have shot everything from 35mm to 11x14, and I have to say that my favorite camera were my 4x5’s. Just a lens, bellows, focusing screen, light meter. The focus (no pun intended) was in creativity.
I had the 6Dmii for about 2 months and finally switched to the RP. Basically as a weight consideration. The 6D with the kit zoom lens was so heavy that it made me not want to use it. The RP is so light and powerful that I keep it with me and use it all the time. Unfortunately, the flip side is that the battery life on the RP is appalling. The 6D I could shoot for days without thinking of battery life. The RP, I have to decide which hours I want to use it before rushing back to an outlet to charge it. If you get the RP: get another battery.
@@skullybeatz8183 I’m not sure. Image sharpness is something I’ve only been aware of when watching camera review videos 😄 I’ve not ever scrutinised the photos or edited them on a big screen (old computer). That said, I do generally feel like the as-is pics from the 6D were more satisfying (so not so much about sharpness, but the sense of depth & overall result or “vibe” of the undoctored 6D pics is for me a bit more juicy and punchy).
@@chriskaprys I've got a 6D and want to add a 2nd body, I was almost about to go for the RP, but the small size and battery life looks like a problem for me. I'm already carrying spare batteries and a charger on longer trips, I don't another ecosystem to manage. The issue with the 6Dmk1 that I have is the pretty rubbish 11 point AF sensor system, everything has to be focus and recompose. Hopeing the mk2 will be easier to track things....
I own the 6D II and truly enjoy using it. I think if anything, the EOS-R would be an "upgrade" to the 6D II. But the price point of the RP for someone wanting a 2nd body or getting into photography, it's hard to beat.
Exactly... so many “photographers” think an expensive body Is going to make them better. Learn fundamentals and spend money on glass, take your camera out of auto.
I bought a t7i 3 months ago. Did some research and bought the 6d mark ii because I wanted a full frame camera. I will use both. I'll stick my 70-200mm f2.8 on my t7i and fill the frame up and not lose megapixels. I will use my 6d mark ii on shots I can fill the frame up. I'm just starting so correct me if I am wrong!
I have a EOS 5DSR and EOS R and EOS RP. a selection of ES and R lenses all L lenses except from my 16mm 2.8 R. My goto camera is the RP with the R 24-105 f4 L.
I just got the 6D mk2 and i Love it. I heard so much negative views about it but than I held my head and realized that it surpasses my old trusty 5D mk2 in any parameter including the video. I paid 750€ for a hardly used second hand. I got it on the original box with all the extra equipment and an extra battery. So far I'm blown by this camera capabilities. Certainly exeeded my expectations.
I currently have the Canon 2000D, and want to upgrade to full frame and in general a better camera. The RP and 6D Mark ii are in my budget, but can’t decide which one to go for, I shoot landscapes, portraits mostly, and possibly a wedding next year which I am hoping to do more of
I think too often we tend to ignore the more important part is, if the camera is an upgrade to our current model we own. I own right now a Canon t7i, and to me, the Canon 6d Mark II is a huge upgrade to my gear and to my abilities to create better photos. I find too often that review videos lean away from that message. I lean to the 6d simply for the fact I prefer not to need to buy an adapter for the glass I already own. I truly think overall these cameras are very similar if you were to remove that one is mirrorless.
I have the canon SL2 and I was looking at what to upgrade first the RP might not be the best but it seems like the great investment for lenses in the future
I love the SL2. I have the 6d II and the 80d and use the SL2 more than either of them. Thinking of selling both and getting the RP. Tired of big, heavy cameras. Definitely keeping the SL2, regardless.
I bought a rp in mid 2020, and don’t regret it one bit. I upgraded from a T7i which I bought holiday season of 2019, to upgrade from my super ancient xti. The rf ecosystem is very enticing moving forward.
Got my 6D2 on a smokin' deal right after it came out because everyone was bustin' its balls..... Picking apart the specs doesn't do this camera justice - I take it with me everywhere, and it impresses me everyday. There's no camera I'd rather have, and it also happens to be one of the best looking cameras ever made!
Im thinking the EOS RP will be my first full frame camera because I mainly do landscapes, portraits and street photography plus its a big step up from my 200D
I don't spend my life reviewing cameras and only buy a new one when necessary. My main concern in going mirrorless was the old feeling that DSLR's have less delay between shutter press and image but no one seems to test or comment on this. Is it now a needless concern? I bought an RP to augment my 'antique' 5D mkII. The improved autofocus is a major point. The grip feels so secure I don't feel the need for a strap unless carrying more than one body around my neck. The simulation of exposure in the viewfinder adds a level of reassurance. The optional level is great for those who too often make tipsy photos. I doubt I will be buying the new lenses (they may be better than the old EF I have but mine work well enough for my standards. I wish there were a requirement for UA-cam posters to update or at least flag their videos so the venue is not filled with bad information.. Now that the 24P complaint was addressed in firmware, half the RP reviews that harp on one feature are invalid. I don't understand why I should care. If I wanted a video camera I'd buy a video camera. If Canon hears us on the battery life issue and makes a rechargeable grip with odd shaped battery or a better way to charge on the fly, all will be right with my world maybe for the next ten years while they turn my RP into an antique. I hear the R mkII will offer IBS and dual cards (one CF). 'Antique' status may not take ten years.
Dear Jarred, on all Canon DSLR cameras I had, they all had a pop-up flash. I bought a Canon R7 in May 2023. Unfortunately, it did not have a pop-up flash. I was in a somewhat dark situation and would have liked to have the pop-up flash for fill-in flash. Now I don't read anywhere in the reviews why the Canon R cameras no longer have a pop-up flash. I miss this one for a fill-in flash on the spot. You don't always have your external flash with you. Is there a reason why Canon no longer makes these pop-up flashes on the R cameras. Why is so little explanation given about this? please your commend.
Thanks, that was a great breakdown. It is a tough call between these two for me. I don't shoot action and shoot mostly handheld with heavy lenses so dropping a pound would be nice. The odd thing is I have come to prefer the optical viewfinder over the Screens for the most part. Somehow I just feel more connected to my subject. I loved the digital viewfinders at first but going back and forth I keep reaching for my old Canons over Olympus/Fuji bodies.
I can see the benefit of using the sensor to set the focus point, means no lens calibration errors etc, so presumably the mirrorless body will return a greater number of sharp in focus images compared to a DSLR? I really like the idea of sliding my thumb around on the rear screen to set the focal point whilst using the EVF, that's really cool and way faster than focus and recompose, which is what I mostly do now (I use a canon OES 6D mki) and I'm undecided between these two bodies to add to my bag.
I’m a real beginner, with a hand-me-down 500d and a 50mm 1.8 and a newly bought refurbished 24-105mm 4L original. I’m starting to outgrow the 500d and am tired of the drawbacks of crop sensors, and I’ve set my sights on a 6d mark II. For me, the body size; the button layout, and optical viewfinder win just hands down over mirrorless. The weight is problematic, but the *only* downside considering that second hand prices of 6d bodies with the 4L lens is 3.5x cheaper than an R body with the equivalent RF 4L lens.
Upgraded from the t2i i've been shooting with since 2011 to the RP a couple weeks ago and its been a massive upgrade for me :) Size factor was what pulled me to the RP over the 6D MKII and in anticipation of moving over to RF glass in the far future.
10:19 I like the RP's ability to transfer jpg photos wireless to a iPhone or iPad (or android). 2019 I use a Canon 5D Mark II, and I would love to be able to see my photos instantly on my 2018 iPad as I shot them. 12:10 I like the RP's ability to touch the screen and drag to focus. I choose the Canon RP as I shoot mostly still life like flowers n plants. I have invested in 3 EF lenses (50mm, 100mm macro, and 75-300mm) so I would get the adapter if I get the RP.
I upgraded from my canon t6 to the 6DMii last August and am quite please with it. When the rp was first announced it was really tempting to switch with the adapter and everything included but the more research I did the better my current camera looked. The major drawbacks for me were no top mount lcd, not a lot of external buttons for adjustments on the fly, the lower FPS, and the much smaller battery was what really killed it for me. The only thing the RP really has over the 6DMii is the auto focus and the evf.
On all of my cameras, 6 cameras at this time... From Canon 5D MK3, to Nikon D610, Fuji X-T1 & T2, Fuji X-PRO1 & 2... I am always using the center AF focusing point, for my needs, type of pictures, I only need this central AF focusing point, so for me 4779, 12343, 45, 63, 153, ... focusing points I don't care at all ! :-)
I'm late to the party on this. But I think the UHS II card in the RP is useless. The camera doesn't take photos fast enough to use them, outside of shooting 4K. Which isn't the reason why I'm buying a still camera.
Funny how Vlogers rate a photography camera for video. I wish the camera manufacturers would stop listening to people like this and focus on developing an extremely good low light camera with excellent resolution and tell Vlogers to buy a video camera.
What a coincidence Jared! Exactly one year after your video, I am looking to replace my current Canon setup from many years ago. I looked at the 80D, 90D, 77D and the EOS 6D Mark II as well. I don't really mind the continuous shooting speed but care more about the WIFI functionality, UHS-II support, 143 AF points, touch and drag feature which looked so useful in real life scenarios, official support for EF lenses using a mount, DIGIC-8 for an updated image processing, much lighter, less bulky and yes, I would probably buy another spare battery considering the small size (1040mAh or about 250 shots). Thanks for this easy comparison video!
But does the Wi-Fi actually work? This seems like just reading the specs off the tin. Actual reviews seem to say that the connectivity features are illusory and can’t be depended upon.
I have an RP and am upgrading. My main problem with the RP is the battery life and the fact that it can look like you have plenty of life left and then it says change the battery pack and shuts off in the middle of a shoot. The R lets you know exactly how much battery is left and the batteries in the R last longer.
I am thankful that I have camera, and I have still way to go to improve my photography. I appreciate your amazing and detailed cameras reviews based on your personal experience not the camera specifications. Thank you Jared.
Preceptor Da that‘s true. But the wind tunnel test is very important for any photographer out there. And I just can‘t think of which is better since one is smaller but the bigger one has more aerodynamic edges.
Preceptor Da i don‘t know honestly. It‘s hard for me to give advice. I got a D750 after a D5300 since that‘s all I need. I know that you will get great results with an 80D, but the RP is not bad, considering the price and the most important thing: the mount options. Yout get this cheap ff body, now you get glass for it. If you upgrade your camera in the future you already have glass for it. Ok, you could also buy the ff lenses for your 80D, but in my opinion get the fullframe mirrorless for that price. Makes more sense than a DSLR now.
@Preceptor Da No problem mate. yeah I experience the same thing. It's always hard to start when there is no friend with the same hobby/passion. And no UA-cam videos will help, cause doing something with your friends is always cooler.
@Preceptor Da Sure. In the end it all depends in how important is this hobby for you, how much do you wanna use your camera and do you wanna keep doing it in the future. These questions should help you in how much you maybe want to spend. After that you I think Jared's camera comparison help you decide if you need certain cameras cause of their feature or if you can go with a cheaper/different model.
I have had full frame envy for a couple of years. I own 2 great crop sensor Canon cameras and my lens are EF. The 6DMkII fits my budget and my expectations as an amateur photographer. The real irony for me with all this new mirrorless stuff is that I started with a Fuji mirrorless some years ago before they became cool. I didn't lke it and that time developed SLR envy haha. I am going to buy a 6DMII. It's specs are close to my 80D which works for me. Thanks Jared, always a pleasure.
How did you get on with it? I have a 6D and whilst the mk2 got slated because it was supposedly inferior, I think that was largely nonsense about noise and saturation that is really easy to fix, and probably not noticeable in the majority of applications. The trick is to stop pixel peeping, it doesn't make the images any better!
Great comparison. Both are excellent cameras and I like the emphasis you put on glass and photography fundamentals over bodies. Both cameras have strengths and weaknesses. I use the 6d ii alongside the 5d iv (events, kids, crowds, people). The flip out screen is something the 5d just doesn't have, so the 6d ii is a great partner for this. I also love that both the 6d ii and 5d iv use the same battery. I often pair the 6d ii with the 16-35 iii and use it with dual pixel AF while the 5d holds the a longer lens (e.g. 70-200 2.8, 85 1.4 is, or even the 50 1.2 depending on the situation). I seldom shoot any video at all. I might upgrade the 6d ii to the R (or some next version of it), but not the RP. The RP gets minus two (-2) checks, in my situations, for being slow on paper. I should probably try it out, but I think this video confirms the slowness. Also, it's worth noting that while the autofocus points on the 6d ii are clumped when using the SLR system, you can use the dual pixel AF system on the 6d ii and get better (and slower) af coverage (albeit on a flip out screen). Along with that new 50, i imagine once those new 85s come out, it's going to be hard not having an RF mount. One more thing, I imagine that I *might* enjoy quieter shooting in some situations from the mirrorless. Is it noticeably quieter? Thanks again.
I love my 6D Mk2 it feels like camera should feel the RP feels like a baby. I was going to get the RP, but ended up getting the R and I still love my 6D Mk2 more even though the R is a better camera. The 6D MK2 and R both have the same battery and I am glad I went with the R instead. battery.
Same. I was between the rp and 6D2. I went with the 6D2 because it’s more refined and battery life being a big deal to me, glad I got the 6D2 instead of the rp. I might have regretted the RP
@@El_Lonli I have a 60D along with a 6DMk2 and just bought an RP a few days ago. Buying extra batteries was a must so I went ahead and did so along with ordering a battery grip. Being able to load two batteries should help with the shooting time.
2:52 finally the answer i was looking fore, but i am kinda thinking that it must steal some light, it makes the distance from the front of the glass to the sensor longer, like if you use a lens extender..
Hey this is me from the future to past me - this video made me buy the 6D for 1200$ on a sale and even with it having a front focussing that got solved by re-adjusting the AF Sensor via warranty im really happy with it - i dont have to do an adapter fiddle for EVERY lense i own and the fact that i only own EF lenses makes the 6D the right choice eventhough its a bit on the "large" side - Although i can still use my old 77D OR buy.. say a fuji xt30 for "travel" if its too much to carry. - Oh and past me, there is going to be a R5 and R6 soon end of this year so look out for thems! Oh and the RP uses the same battery as the 77D and there is a reason why i have 4 and was constantly recharging them especially in cold weather while the 6D ones.. yea i have 3 but on a shoot i rarely use more than one, and thats starting at like 70% charge... those 5D/6D / R batteries are real heavy duty things - for once totally worth the absurd canon OG battery price :D
Very helpful discussion on these two cameras, both which I’m considering as an amateur, beginner, nature photographer. Maybe would have liked to see the final total “check mark” scores, but I believe it’s pretty safe to say the RP came out ahead. Good work!
Which one can take a picture from asleep state faster, and how big is the difference? I'm guess that the 6D II is faster? This is an important difference between mirrorless and SLR cameras that a lot of camera reviewers forgot to compare. It can be the difference between getting the shot and not!
Hey did you make a video showing how to transfer photos to your phone while you shoot ? Is that something that you need the canon app for or another way
I think the biggest thing with the rp is it's weight, electronic view finder sounds like magic too. Going to order it soon and no longer feel like I'm lumping around a big heavy camera anymore :D
I have the 6d II -- fantastic camera. But . . . I rarely take it with me because I've grown weary of carrying big cameras around. Body only is not that big or heavy, but once the 24-105 is attached it's too much to lug around. I bought the 6d II for image quality. If the RP image quality is just as good or better, I might sell the 6d and get the RP. Have you used the 6d II? How does the image quality compare to the RP?
Maybe a strange question but when talking about video in cameras these days we refer to 1080p and 60fps. I understand the "p" in 1080p has a specific meaning but why do we say "p" in 60p when it's 60fps? Doesn't the "p" just stand for per? I'm no video guru so maybe I'm way off on this but 60fps means 60 Frames Per Second, correct? Why do people say 60p?????
Aren't all dslr with video capabilities are hybrid cause they are in mirror less mode if they are taking video, and shooting in live view, which means mirror less already been exiting since dslr capturing 720p in 2006's. EOS RP is a mirror less but can't be a DSLR but EOS 6D ii is a DSLR and same time a mirror less system.
6d mk2 in Europe is ~€1100-1200 that's $1200-1300.Which makes mk1 even cheaper. Not to mention older cameras like 5d classic, 5d mk2, nikon d600,610, 700, sony a7 mk1.. These days you can have a decent setup of ff body and a 50mm lens, even for less than $400. But if you only sit and watch videos and gear reviews for 24/7, than you believe that the only way to snap a good photo is if you only buy the latest gear.
One thing about these cameras that you didn't address at all, is something that concerns me greatly. I have a "Dust Pump" otherwise known as Cannon's 100-400L f4.5-5.6 Series I Lens and I am deeply concerned about sensor cleaning, I presently shoot with a Canon 70 D and I am forever cleaning the sensor. does having no mirror in front of the sensor on the Canon EOS RP mean the sensor will be even more prone to dust spots, if not even more so because of the larger sensor?
im a small youtuber and use the eos T7i and the G7X Mark ll , my question is im looking to upgrade , what would be the best youtuber camera in your opinion?? thank you
Get the Eos m50 or m6ii your arms will thank you in the future. Also UA-cam algorithms put a higher preference to 4K videos so if you start 4K you may see more views. Look at Potato Jet vids
I can’t comment on the RP, but I have the 6D mark ii, and had it 6 months and is still blowing me away with the vid and pic quality, I can’t imagine what better video must be like, I upload to YTube and insta and have to lower the bit rate and compress it so the in built app compression doesn’t do its horrid thing, so it is not quite as nice as straight out of the camera. So for me better vid would be a waste of spending thousands more. The only thing I wish for is 120fps, if it had this I would be happy as punch.
Anyone have low light experience and thoughts about both of these cameras? I'm certainly leaning towards the RP. I need low light intel though - indoor mostly.
thanks for the update. I am trying to decide what to get as my 5D Mark III just got damaged so i need to replace that cam and i im trying to decide on what to get
1. Jared, tech question: Electronic VF (EVF) give a WYSIWYG image vs Optic VF which doesn't. I see most landscape photographers use their LCD screens (ie Canon Live View) to compose their image, does that not give you a WYSISYG image? With Canon and Nikon release of their EOS R and Z6 & Z7 so much has been made of EVF's but is there any difference from what you see on your camera's LCD? 2. Comment on the video, not sure you can expect IBIS for $1299 ;)
I would tend to agree with your analysis. I have the 6D mark ii, but it seems that you might be better off with Sony for mirrorless at this point in time.
not sure as the 4k in sony is also not useable (handheld). Also the canon colors and autofocus is much better. and eor rp & 6d mk2 is also full frame which will give better depth of field and image. keep in mind that sony lenses are more expensive as well. i own the a6300 so i am just being honest:)
Hey Jared, I've got a question. Since deciding I want to pursue photography as a career, I'm going to school this fall for photography. I mainly do portraits and some street photography. I don't have much money but I'm hoping to get a full frame camera before or early into college. I have a canon sl2 which has the same battery as the RP but I found out sony still makes and sells their older A7 and A7ii for really cheap new. Would you suggest an A7 (original) or the RP?
Luna Wroblewski I would go with either. They can both do street and portrait quite well. Have a think of which camera eco system you prefer. Look at the cameras above this and what lens selections are available which you might want. More often than not, most photographers stick with the brand they buy first ... just my two cents
@@touringband I've always loved L lenses. My high school photo teacher praised it. I started with a t5 then. I've got a few cheaper canon lenses so that's why I was thinking if I switched new, I wouldn't be outta money with the big glass, however like I said, my current camera uses the same battery as the RP and I've got 5 of them (the one with the RP would be 6) it would also mean I've got some lenses to start with. I've got time to think about it. Thanks for your 2 cents, it did give me some perspective
I need help deciding between the 6d ii and the RP in terms of only using it for photography. I don't shoot any video, and I probably never will. The main reason my choice is between these two, is the price point. Which at this point means I really can't afford to shell out the money needed to buy RF lenses. I'm upgrading finally from my old but trusty Canon 7d. All of my lenses are are ef as well. Also just to add to this, I'm a pretty experienced photographer, I have won several awards and have done pretty well for being a self taught photographer. But I don't use my camera to make a living, therefore while I do take photography seriously, it's not my profession so to speak. Any way, thanks for any advice I can get deciding between these two.
I'm looking for a back up camera for more portrait, city, and landscapes compared to my main 6D Mark II for sports and concerts. Is the EOS RP a decent idea for it?
Thanks for the info. I'll probably sell my original 6D and buy the EOS R while keeping the 6DII as a backup. Been debating picking up the EOS R instead of a 70-200 2.8 III.
I don’t understand what he’s saying about the video on the 6D MKii, I shoot very good footage on my 6D MKii and it does great in low light situations. Only con to the 6D MKii is that it doesn’t do 4K footage.
H2CreativeConcepts 6dmk2 after 800 iso in video it’s pretty grainy. and it’s generally less sharp. Yes it’s decent video but not great relatively speaking. ie you can get the EOS M50 for $400 and get the same video and it does 4K.
the RP makes the 6D look like an old man but fails to dominate because of the 6D’s wisdom
Well said 👏
I have the 5D MK IV and I wanted to replace my 7D MK II.
RP has bad DR
@@pal54321 Worse than the D6 mark ii?
@@ShebeerPrince what decision did you end up making because I'm in the same dilemma currently.
@sinuslebastian6366 bought used RP. I'm happy 🤎 Using Canon 50 1.8 and Sigma 85 1.4 with it.
6D Mark ll , it’s a decent camera for the price especially when you already have EF lenses. Perfect camera for UA-camrs.
4:10 Canon can do it. They just won't give that to you. Otherwise, what's the point in buying the R.
Jared, the 6D MKII also has Bluetooth connectivity and can also automatically send the photo to your phone or iPad. Just saying!!!
True. That's one of the features why I bought this nice camera.
The 6D classic couldn't do wifi transfers of raw files. Can the Mark II that you're aware of? Shooting in-camera and sending raw to your phone to edit in Lightroom mobile is such a clutch game for instagram...
@@mikepawlikguitar yes it can! Had it since jan 2018
I’ve also got a 5dmii. Trying to decide what to upgrade to.
Too bad.
I think 6D is better but the RP would be a better investment for the future, since that is the direction Canon seems to be going
The 6D II is my favorite camera of all time. The RP is nifty, but the 6D is tried and true.
Yes ! It’s true the 6d is probably better
I'll need the shower test to decide.
Just a Heads Up, The latest firmware update for the EOS RP now has 24fps.

What about the Eos R, compared to the R6 Mii ?
The RP and 6D Mark ii are in my budget, but can’t decide which one to go for, I shoot landscapes, portraits mostly, and possibly a wedding next year which I am hoping to do more of
Weddings? You need the 6d Mark ii
The weight. Big difference. And the size. Also, RP has a newer processor, Digic 8. That should mean better IQ than the 6d II.
It would be nice if jared can show a table in the end of all the comparison or check marks of all the specs & features.
How is it going so far? I own a t7i and thinking about upgrading to the rp. Have you noticed an improvement in quality?
Got my 6D2 on a smokin' deal right after it came out because everyone was bustin' its balls.....
How's RP noise in low light at high ISOs?
I think 6d is better but rp is future

For me 6D Mark II seems like more subtle choice. But, both are great nonetheless.
I have a great stable of EF lenses so the change does not make sense for me. Also, the 6DMark2 takes excellent photos for me. I like the bigger body.
that RP battery. Jesus!
I will take the faster FPS and extra battery life of the 6D MK2. Great video!

@Silviu Vulcan facts
@Silviu Vulcan controls on Sony are awful...
Jared made a mistake on the 6d Mark ii. It actually does come with Bluetooth and NFC, so you know.
But does the Wi-Fi actually work? This seems like just reading the specs off the tin. Actual reviews seem to say that the connectivity features are illusory and can’t be depended upon.
Great Review. I may have missed it but i did not hear if the RP was mirrorless?
The RP is mirrorless
I have an RP and am upgrading. My main problem with the RP is the battery life and the fact that it can look like you have plenty of life left and then it says change the battery pack and shuts off in the middle of a shoot. The R lets you know exactly how much battery is left and the batteries in the R last longer.
I am thankful that I have camera, and I have still way to go to improve my photography. I appreciate your amazing and detailed cameras reviews based on your personal experience not the camera specifications. Thank you Jared.
You forgot the sniff test and wind tunnel test Jared LOL
Oh shit. This comparison is not legit.
@Preceptor Da No problem mate.
yeah I experience the same thing.
I have a 6d ii but the video quality so low .its all the 6d ii like this ?

@@El_Lonli I have a 60D along with a 6DMk2 and just bought an RP a few days ago. Buying extra batteries was a must so I went ahead and did so along with ordering a battery grip. Being able to load two batteries should help with the shooting time.

You forgot to consider 3rd party glass... not all 3rd party glass will work on the Eos RP adapter... if you're in a budget that is important
Actually 6D2 has dual pixel in live view mode. And it's ergonomic is way more pro-like.
RP makes the 6D2 look good....

Which one can take a picture from asleep state faster, and how big is the difference? I'm guess that the 6D II is faster? This is an important difference between mirrorless and SLR cameras that a lot of camera reviewers forgot to compare. It can be the difference between getting the shot and not!

6D mark ii has bluetooth as well and also provides capabilities of previewing and downloading images
@@sl2608 what lenses will you get with RP?
@@Overcomen None. I'll use the Canon lenses I already own with the RP adapter.
Google Interlaced vs. Progressive Scan and you will understand what "p" stands for. It's not about the frames per seconds.
Interesting....
I prefer the 6DII because of more direct control options, and more fps for Dog action shots. By the way the 6DII has blutetooth too.
And NFC to boot!!!
I love it when Jared called out the 50 raw files part. Such bs fps from the RP
Hi Jared. I need your advise please. Should l buy 90D or 6D Mark II for daily use?
Aren't all dslr with video capabilities are hybrid cause they are in mirror less mode if they are taking video, and shooting in live view, which means mirror less already been exiting since dslr capturing 720p in 2006's. EOS RP is a mirror less but can't be a DSLR but EOS 6D ii is a DSLR and same time a mirror less system.
6d mk2 in Europe is ~€1100-1200 that's $1200-1300.Which makes mk1 even cheaper.Not to mention older cameras like 5d classic, 5d mk2, nikon d600,610, 700, sony a7 mk1..
I have a "Dust Pump" otherwise known as Cannon's 100-400L f4.5-5.6 Series I Lens and I am deeply concerned about sensor cleaning, I presently shoot with a Canon 70 D and I am forever cleaning the sensor. does having no mirror in front of the sensor on the Canon EOS RP mean the sensor will be even more prone to dust spots, if not even more so because of the larger sensor?
im a small youtuber and use the eos T7i and the G7X Mark ll , my question is im looking to upgrade , what would be the best youtuber camera in your opinion?? thank you
6d Mark ii with the flexible screen.
Get the Eos m50 or m6ii your arms will thank you in the future. Also UA-cam algorithms put a higher preference to 4K videos so if you start 4K you may see more views. Look at Potato Jet vids
Dylan Nguyen thank you ☺️
I can’t comment on the RP, but I have the 6D mark ii, and had it 6 months and is still blowing me away with the vid and pic quality, I can’t imagine what better video must be like, I upload to YTube and insta and have to lower the bit rate and compress it so the in built app compression doesn’t do its horrid thing, so it is not quite as nice as straight out of the camera. So for me better vid would be a waste of spending thousands more. The only thing I wish for is 120fps, if it had this I would be happy as punch.
Anyone have low light experience and thoughts about both of these cameras? I'm certainly leaning towards the RP. I need low light intel though - indoor mostly.
I'd like to know that too.
thanks for the update. I am trying to decide what to get as my 5D Mark III just got damaged so i need to replace that cam and i im trying to decide on what to get
Compering thikness on the picture from the top, there are canon rp vs canon r not 6d 2.
This is the second video I have watched by you where you have failed to realize/mention that the 6D Mark II has bluetooth along with wifi....
Exactly why Mr. Nimrod needs to redo this entire video and set the record straight!!! We love you Jared, even if your not always perfect!!!
2. Comment on the video, not sure you can expect IBIS for $1299 ;)
Which one is better for indoor portraits and what lens would you recommend? Thanks
Minus a check mark on the RP for no GPS !
6d mark2 any day.. One of the best cameras available in the market right now for the money.
@@JohnAmaro_Official good points
Where is the lick test?
I will go with the 6d mk ii for video and the availability of lenses
Just get the adapter
The big issue with the A7 is the AF system. its very unreliable. especially in low light.
@@MikedieONE I was unaware. I thought all Sony's were just supposed to be good at that stuff. Thanks!
Whitch Canon performs best at high ISO in low light situations?
I got my wife the 6d Mark ii and she loves it! I read what you wrote and think that would be indeed your wise choice to make. God bless....
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!! What camera and lens are you using to make this video? I love how the background is out of focus.
Is 6D markii much better than 80D? I mean, for studio photos and low light photography
Full frame vs APS-C, it's obvious.
@@enaje3rd yea, but what exactly is the difference between images of those two?
I'm looking for a back up camera for more portrait, city, and landscapes compared to my main 6D Mark II for sports and concerts. Is the EOS RP a decent idea for it?
Very happy with my 6DM2
WHY DO AMERICANS FEEL THE NEED TO SHOUT AT THE TOP OF THEIR VOICE ALWAYS ON CAMERA? FFS, I AM MARRIED ALREADY!
