    Great footage! I worked for POTB in ‘96. I was on the work train that went on duty at Salmonberry (there was a work camp there). We would jump in the speeder car every morning and head to Enright, then spend the day dumping rip rap between Salmonberry and Cochran to repair all the slides. I recognize the conductor that kicked the knuckle - ha ha. Thanks for the memories!

    It sad that tilmook can't use maritime grants....220 million in freight is sad that the Port throws this away by not rebuilding this line. ....

    Wow, those guys work faster than any other short line I have seen at switching cars. Safety was definitely not a priority with POTB. Still, it's such a shame they are gone

    Amazing that 6139 and 4406 are the only SD9 survivors on the Tillamook branch. All the others that were stranded in Tillamook after 2007 have been scrapped.

      @@READ_DESCRIPTION-r6n it’s a shame the high hood couldn’t be saved. Would have been a great addition to OCSR, especially if repainted in the SP ‘bloody nose’ scheme. Is it being sourced for parts for 6139?

      @@ChrisJones-gx7fc Nah It would be nice to repaint 6139 to Bloody Nose and add High Hood But Absolute Shame That POTB 4406 never made to Preservation Because OCSR Cares only steam and does not Care to SP Tillamook Line And instead restoring the line They turned into trail

      @@READ_DESCRIPTION-r6n I don’t think it’s so much they don’t care as they’re all steam experts, not diesel, and their focus is on steam preservation. They do maintain a small operational diesel fleet with the F7 and Geep that they use for the spring and fall splendor excursions and dinner train, or when the steamers aren’t running, as well as now 6139 they’ve used for work trains (as is sometimes the Geep) and I believe they also own a currently non-operational 44-tonner.
      As for the trail, the Salmonberry Trail Coalition/Salmonberry Trail Intergovernmental Agency is working with both POTB and OCSR to keep the operational tracks along the coast and along the Nehalem River as rail-with-trail, while the significantly damaged and virtually abandoned tracks in the Salmonberry Canyon and down into the Tualatin Valley would be converted to trail. OCSR’s lease agreement with POTB covers the Tillamook Air Station to a little past Enright, just west of the major washouts. OCSR has plans to reopen the line to Salmonberry again, but not anything past there for the foreseeable future as other goals take priority.
      Personally I see Salmonberry being a nice terminus for OCSR and rail/trail station for the Salmonberry Trail, as it’s where the tracks and Foss Road meet as do the Salmonberry and Nehalem Rivers. I’d run a twice daily excursion between Wheeler and Salmonberry during the summer months, providing trail users the ability to ride the train up to the trail and continue east, or those coming west can rest their legs on the train down to the coast. There’s a runaround siding across the rail bridge from Foss Road, so trains can be engine first both directions with the other siding just south of Wheeler. OCSR’s baggage car could be converted to carry bikes, similar to other tourist trains that offer that service like Cuyahoga Valley and Western Maryland Scenic.

    Great footage along one of the most historic lines in Oregon. Wish they would repair it and operating again; this line and the 26 mile stretch of the P&W line from Wauna to Astoria. Anybody know what became of the Timber Rd wig-wag? I know the Banks one is preserved at the trailhead in Banks.

    Is this right that the Port made 220 million a year off freight .Why can't Port rebuild a little each year etc.
