Great trip and an awesome hobby. Didn't care much for the siren and light bar though. Seemed to detract from the authenticity of the car, and would have aggravated me if I were riding on the fabulous trip. Thanks for sharing this really great video!
That speeder with the siren though. I can imagine a possible scenario: Track speed: 30 mph Train: runs through at 35 mph Speeder with siren: gives train a speeding ticket
Not so bad. They have timber handles in the seating part of the speeder. These are pulled out for maximum leverage. One end is then lifted - like a wheelbarrow, and turn the speeder 180 degrees. This is usually done at a level crossing -where the ground is level with the rails. That way, if you slip and drop the handles, it won't be too hard to continue turning the speeder. I have never actually done this as the speeder types I have driven (Victorian Railways 8W and 6W type) have a reversing gearbox, and can go at the same speed in either direction. And the motor is air cooled, so it does not need air running through a water condenser.
A lot of people that have speeders install a turntable that is raised and lowered. Just drop it down and slightly lift the car in the middle off the rails and then spin the car around and lower it back and secure the turntable back up. Then off you go in the opposite direction.
That's one of the reasons why the railroad companies stopped using them, and had them replaced with the railroad riding cars and trucks. They were uncomfortable and there were other problems with them.
You might want to check, there may be more than one Garibaldi in the world. The title "POTB Speeder trip parts 10 & 11 - Buxton - Tillamook - Buxton" indicates it was on the POTB (Port of Tillamook Bay Railroad and not the former BCRail), contained more than one part, and that the trip was fro Buxton (Oregon) to Tillamook (Oregon) back to Buxton (Oregon).
@@beefyrt Makes sense, doesn't look like they make more than about 30mph and they sound like they're powered by motorcycle/moped or riding lawnmower engines...
The lines we have that actually go anywhere (that you'd want to go) and haven't been turned into steam preservation lines are generally far too busy. Plus we never really had much in the way of speeder type inspection vehicles, about the closest we got was regular pickups modded with a flip-down set of rail wheels, all line inspection is normally done with a regular loco plus inspection carriage combo.
Yes, kinda old school. My car has brake lights but were still required to throw the flag out. We all drive our road vehicles to the speeder events, and none of us throw out a flag to the autos behind us indicating were stopping.
Hubby and I are just about to purchase our first speeder. Can't wait to join in the fun !!!

Seemed out of place for a historical motorcar, and frankly thought it was a bit obnoxious 🙄
Wow it's amazing trip and beautiful view.
I have never seen this vehicle before in my life. Like this from lucknow india.
That speeder with the siren though. I can imagine a possible scenario:
Track speed: 30 mph

Speeder with siren: gives train a speeding ticket
Always found rail speeders interesting. Would be a great way to see some countryside.
I would love to do that on a Saturday afternoon!
I wish I was around for these rides!!!!!!!
It was a very good video. It would be cool to stop and do some fishing on some of those rivers and streams but I imagine that wouldn’t be allowed.
Fist time I have seen an engine like ,fantastic,,I am in Scotland..
The one with the siren and lights is so awesome!!!
Saw that one and told myself "I need one dressed up as a fire engine now. The ideas already."
Wannabe cop. Sorry, for being historical speeders, I find the light bar and siren a bit obnoxious 🙄
Nice to see the OCSR cleaning up this line but I'd love to see the whole thing come back.
. . . sorry, no pony express rescue
Now that looks like fun!!
look like a fun hobby but I imagine rather costly
amazing vedio I love those cars wow....
Amazing video! Greetings from Italy :-)
cute little cars love them all my favorite was blue one......
Never seen a Heisler Loco before? Got some learnin to do!
It must be really challenging to turn the speeders around to go in the opposite direction!

good way to keep otherwise rowdies out of trouble..
At 16:51 the freight train is watering the tracks. Trains on that railroad always did that when going through the forest.
you guys r having to much fun
Fantastic!
Damn, the cops knew exactly we're they were going!
This is something that I did once and even though it was fun it came with some ordeals.
Like a sore butt, sore back and a headache from the noise.
That's one of the reasons why the railroad companies stopped using them, and had them replaced with the railroad riding cars and trucks.
They were uncomfortable and there were other problems with them.
that was my first question.. are yo allowed a trailer car.. i see thats yes
What doe,s the Steam unit in Garabaldi, BC have to do with speeder rides in Oregon 🤔

ookLs fun, Should we ask Network Rail if we can try this on the ECML??
Whats the minimum speed now required? The one Tornado needed to meet? Not sure my speeder could do that without jetpacks!
Is there a town called Garibaldi in Oregon? I am amazed...greetings from Europe!!!
Mario Cassina v
I am Italian and seing garibaldi oregon makes me tear one up
Crazy question, but what's the fuel economy in one of those things?
about 60 plus miles to the gal

Oops. 16:07. Backing onto a siding to let a working run pass by...... 😛😁 High rail (18:48) what put speeders out of commission.
The video is very good, I would like to make a vehicle like this here in BRAZIL, do you have the project for this vehicle?
I wish the UK did this. But our rail networks are a tad busy.
Looks like the points of that last switch had a gap in them?
What was the first tank car spraying?
herbicide i bet... ;(
Cool !!!.
Can you imagine the Brits being allowed to do this??

(and all but the most remote lines are generally easily accessible by road, plus not too much walking...)
isn't this track O/S now?
Are there plans to rebuild it?

engine is too nifty...the forward truck is too precious..

Was the guy with the siren writing tickets?
good
Is that standard gauge?
Harry Todhunter yes, standard 56.5" inch (4f 8.5in)
mrksvideos in cm? Xd
oh no railroad cops
😍😍😍
i wd like to have the tow truck speeder to hop off the track and hook up the disabled speeder n tow it to safety / service
First tank wagon in train leaking fluid from loading valve
Thats just water they spray on the tracks to prevent fires caused by sparks or hot brake shoes falling apart on the long trip down the grade.
anybody who engages in this absurdity can't be all bad
What is the purpose of the red flag? tell the guys behind that you are stopping?

steampunk at it's finest....
