I am 75, and I found Dave Allen on u-tube about 3 or so years ago. Perhaps because I am older, I prefer his later routines. He was just amazing. I can and do watch him repeatedly, and still laugh whole heartily. I was so sorry to learn that he had passed away. I wish that I could let his family know how much he is still being enjoyed and appreciated....

Apparently, he had a clause in his contracts that no show would be repeated on TV. He didn't want his work to become stale because of too many repeats. Thankfully he didn't know yt was on the way, or we would have lost all of this long ago and there wouldn't be these wonderful memories and access to his tremendous humour now. As for the possibility of becoming stale, that could never happen when there has never been anyone as good known.

I can definitely relate! I remember once being in the express queue (12 items or less) and there was a LONG line of people waiting. There was an elderly lady at the checkout with a huge amount of groceries, and when they'd finally been scanned she faffed around querying prices, getting the cashier to manually check everything. People in the queue were starting to openly grumble...she turned around and smiled at the long line of people...then proceeded to waste yet more time. So yes, can relate to the frustration in Dave Allen's monologue. 😅

Allen the best. Queue jumpers: in the late 80s, I was with my wife at an Antiques Roadshow in a long queue. There was muttering and grumbling behind us; a guy was casually moving one at a time in front of other people in the queue. None of the mutterers and moaners said anything to him. When he moved in front of us I said to him "you're queue jumping, you were right back there"- he duly went right back there. I couldn't understand why none of the moaners had said anything to him

Everything he said is true. Counting other people's items in the express checkout to see if they haven't gone over the limit, getting annoyed at supermarkets moving products around. It means you need to learn their new locations so you know the quickest, most efficient route to pick all the items you planned on buying in order to be quickly in and out of these places. The major difference nowadays is you have the self scanners which give their own problems, i.e. "unexpected item in the baggage area", or the "please wait for assistance".

I do miss Dave Allen. After a particularly irritating supermarket trip today, I would so love to hear his opinions on self-service checkouts!

As a kid, I wanted to grow up to be Dave Allen.

I took over supermarket shopping for my darling wife and collated all items we buy onto a print sheet starting at aisle 1-10. No doubling back. Then they changed the shop around!!
5yrs later I am on my third revised list🤣🤣

Dave allen was God in the comedy world bless you for all the real life observations and storytelling pure brilliant in a world that's lost its sense of humour. Sadly missed but brought to life here on you tube. RIP sir❤

So relevant today. The best stand up comedian ever. All the best ones are making God laugh. Can you imagine Dave Allen, the 2 Ronnies, Morecambe and Wise, Tommy Cooper. Spike Milligan etc all together.

+Christian brüggemann Doesn't stuff always change in supermarkets?

+Christian brüggemann its funny because its true - the part about counting items in other peoples baskets in those limited item checkouts - one thing he didnt mention was the most irritating people who will join a queue and then keep popping backwards and forwards getting more stuff from other places in the supermarket - f--king idiots

dante ferno yes so true. What riles me nowadays is the ones who put their children or someone at the head of the line and then go continue shopping. Then come pushing their way with a large cart of groceries just as its yhour turn...then you have to wait and wait..that should be illegal. the cashier is too busy to notice..And the old ones who must count out their very last coin to the exact change then argue about prices or specials when they get to the checkout...Riles me to death...I get as mad as dave allen here..! honest

William Signs and those who pay with their gold credit card when the purchases are below a certain amount permissible. THis man in front of me in the queue started chatting while waiting. Said he is a ret ired doctor...Took out his gold AMEX or some card and paid ..The cashier told him only amounts more than a certain $$ is payable by that card...He was arguing and arguing with the cashier. There was a cute effeminate, male cashier and he rolled his eyes towards me in a mocking way and showed his anger at the doctor. I couldnt help being amused..
