Agreed. I have a friend in America and he had never heard of him. I suggested that he looked online at him. He is hooked. Another one which American's have not heard of is a comedy called Red Dwarf. There is now an appreciation group called Dwarfers. It is hilarious. I constantly watch both of these after a rough day.
He worked as a journalist for 2 of our local newspapers in county Louth years ago in Ireland, the papers arecalled the democrat and the argus, but the democrat was called the Drogheda independent at the time when Dave Allen was there
I first experienced Dave and his brilliant humor back in the early 70's as a teenager in Canada and Loved his comedy then. Now as an older adult, returning to his humor and wit has helped me with dealing with the occasional depression that accompanies daily living. I'm very grateful for that relief😁
yes , me too, I am glad there are transcriptions because I am French and my English is not perfect, but I can't spend a single day without watching Dave, and now I found another humorist very much alike his humour, she is called Pam Ayres,
Agreed he always was a comedic genius, fantastic actor as well. I was born in 1975 and can vaguely remember his early shows, however I was lucky enough to watch him throughout the eighties, nineties up until his death RIP. My mum introduced me to Dave, she was forever watching him on tv, apparently when he was younger he looked a lot like her ex boyfriend.
I do listen to him everyday, he is a bit like GOD to me, especially during this mondial tragedy we are living ... wonder what Dave Allen would have thought of this
he was my saturday night stay up late treat, as a 8 yr old in the late 70's seeing my nan n grandad howl with laughter was a joy, i got some of his jokes but obv a lot went over my head but seeing him now on youtube ...its just pure genius
It's been a while since I cried with laughter but this guy always gets me. The 1 where he's teaching his child the time is priceless, tho thinking about it everything he does is hilarious and priceless.
when i first saw dave allen in 2013 i was literally rolling on the floor with laughter, i watched dave allen telling the time, i wish he was still around.
Growing up in the 70’s there was many comedy shows or sitcoms about which you thought were brilliant. If watched now there’s not that many you could really say you still find funny. But Dave Allen to me was different, he has never aged, as in what he talks about or his sketches he did have never dated. His talks to his audience on life and everyday problems, are still happening in today’s world.
My late dad loved Dave Allen so despite the language I was allowed to watch it from an early age! I remember sitting on his knee watching the funeral race sketch & laughing so much!
When I was a lad I used to watch him with my dad. The jokes went over my head I didn't have a scooby doo ..But now I am at that age where I can appreciate the more subtle jokes...also that there is no f..ing this and f..ing that...one of the best comedians there was in my opinion .....👍👍👍😎🇬🇧..
What a great comedian dave allen was I still lol hes up there with les dawson bob monkhouse and all the other greats we will never c the likes of them again truly epic
Such a delightfully funny man. I saw him live in Reading a few years ago and the entire audience found his performance brilliant! I shall never forget that evening!
yes, I am French and do not have good English, but same as you, only heard of him a few days ago, and I absolutely adore him, he makes me laugh like nobody did, watch him every day, several times, can't stop about it !
He was Irish, from Dublin, a very close neighbour to the UK, so we knew him well. I missed his humour very much when he died, he was very gifted, and an excellent Comedian. Sadly he died in 2005. and the only comedian that i loved and respected
2:32 our precious daughter would NOT HAVE A BAR OF THIS!! Would scream murder until “free” of this confining approach. I totally get it, can never understand the infernal wrapping up of babies!!
The older he got the funnier he was. He NEVER fails to make me laugh even if i have seen it before!Everybody says I should be a comedian and my sense of humour is very dry like Dave Allen. Strangly enough I hate most comedians because they come across as loud mouthed attention seekers. Comedians that lots of people think are hilarious really irritate me. They try too hard and swear too much. Dave Allen swears just enough to emphasise his frustration about whatever subject he is talking about. It's so sad that he didn't live longer and continue to mock today's society. I may have to do it for him! THIS MAN WAS SENSATIONAL AND MADE IT LOOK EFFORTLESS.
Here in America in Pittsburgh Pa WPGH TV use to carry his show back before becoming a Fox affiliate back in the early 80's right after Benny Hill, always loved his show, great seeing it here.
I just thought about it. Maybe he means a mom? Coz mom's are in the kitchen, holding pots, etc. If I thought of an oven mitt, it made no sense. 😅 Basically, it was a subtle, sexist dig...
Brilliant, he makes me LAUGH. When I try listening to new comedians, they dont make me laugh. They must have poor writers behind them nowadays, as I know Ken Dodd had 3 writers for his stage work.
I don't understand why, in the West, they wrap up the babies in a blanket with their hands packed into the blanket, instead of just letting them free... I am 40 but I still remember my childhood. I used to start crying the moment the hotwater touched my body
Most Americans have never heard of this man yet he he is one of the greatest comedians of all time.
I'm a American I've known him for quite a long time. I used to watch him on PBS in the mid 70's.
@Buffalo 66 Yea, you're right, so I deleted the comment, its not the peoples fault. :)

I know of NO-ONE alive or dead that could hold an audience in absolute hysterics like Dave Allen. He was a one off on every way
moreover I know of no one expressing human behavior so bloody accurately and describing how fools we are🤪 when we pretend to know all and yet..... 🤯🤪
The best comedian ive ever heard.

The greatest comic story tellers of all time. Thanks to youtube I can revel in his whit whenever I feel like it
Wit, not whit.
A raconteur, an observer of human behaviour & a genuinely funny man. Sadly missed, Dave Allen is one of my favourite comedians.
One of the best ever.
It's been a while since I cried with laughter but this guy always gets me. The 1 where he's teaching his child the time is priceless, tho thinking about it everything he does is hilarious and priceless.
The hour hand is the first hand, the minute hand is the second hand and the second hand is the third hand.
Dave Allen is a man who will always be remembered by me and many more of his fans.

As a young boy in Australia I used to look at his show every chance I got. Mum and dad were German but they nearly pissed themselves while watching

2020 Covid-19 lockdown/quarantine ......binge watching this man....... time well spent!👍👏💜
I watched him growing up, and I'm still watching him. I absolutely love him ❤️
It felt like a personal loss when died. I remember at school the day after his show retelling the jokes. He is still the master.
Seen him live. He is amazing
Dave Allen is a legend. I'm 64 now and I grew up watching him. I think most modern comedians cite him as an influence.
I born in Africa and we growing up watching him 🤣RIP Dave

Dave Allen is a genius. And he becomes one by observing things that anyone of common sense could observe, but doesn't.

"do you want to go to bed " I said "what have I done " OMG !
Some great innocent comedy
6:20 - This is the best part, we all know how revolting hot baby food looks
Bout feeding the baby; ‘I saw people using a spoon like a wedge!’ I just can’t help imagine a father doin that with a crowbar😂
Dave dave dave.........we miss you.
Just love it all 🤣🤣🤣
OMG my stomack is aching !
"it would make any pothole proud" OMG sooo brilliant !
aside from the unfortunate error that reduced the audience to silence - a great comic genius.
silveradofilms, what error are you talking about.
There wasn't an error
What a Genius so inciteful
9:15 "Think of the starving children"... lol
priceless
Bloody right he is
Pure genius

THX!!!
He's right children hate rattles
Dave Allen sketches, especially the religious sketches, so funny, and not anti religious, nor blasphemous.
so true that we are all thinking babies fear that much the cold ...
