👉🏻Let’s make sure your shoulderblades can move. The shoulderblades are basically anatomical slang for your scapulae!
😯What’s cool about the shoulderblades is that their connection to the back of the rib cage is via muscles not via a bon to bone link making them a “false joint.”
🔹This is one reason why it’s very important that you are able to move your shoulderblades so that all of the muscles that attach to them and help then move can also move well. We want everyone to work together as a team rather than one group of muscles doing more work than they signed up for.
🌟A simple and effective way that you can get your shoulderblades and all the muscles that attach to them moving well is to do shoulderblade circles.
🔸Push the shoulders forward (protraction), draw them up (elevation), squeeze them together (retraction), and drag them down (depression) making a nice big circle. Once you’ve got that movement and are able to reverse it, then play with different relationships against gravity and different positions with your arms in space…
🙋🏻‍♀️Try the circles with your arms, reaching forward or reaching upward or try with your hands attached to a wall or attached to the floor.
🗝️Circle your shoulderblades often… Daily is preferred! And then notice how your upper back and your neck start to feel!
