New sub here! This video popped up in my recommendations so I had to check it out. This came out in '91 when I was 10, I was already in love with Mark's brother Donnie Wahlberg in New Kids On The Block, so of course I had to listen to Marky Mark. He was doing music long before he became an actor, in fact he was one of the original members of NKOTB for a few months, but decided he wanted to pursue a solo career in hiphop and was subsequently replaced by Joey McIntyre. I've seen some comments talking about his racist past as a youth. Yes he did and said horrible things as a teenager towards minorities, but people grow and change. He has since apologized many times for and condemned his actions as a young man, and since then has been open about how turning to his religious beliefs and wanting to be a role model for his children changed him. I don't think he should be crucified the rest of his life if he genuinely changed and became a different person. Anyway, I'm enjoying seeing the younger crowd listen and react to the music from my generation, I will now be checking out your other videos!
I worked as an Assistant Mgr in a record store the year this broke, and MM and the FB came to our store for a record signing appearance. We had to make the store into a single file pass through by their tables, then around to the cashier and out, with those velvet ropes. The boys all sat at folding tables loaded with cassettes and albums and CDs, as all were out at the time, and signed them. About 2000 teenage girls showed up, and they crushed up against the strip mall store window glass, we could see it literally bending/bowing inward, but it was shatterproof store window glass and didnt break, thank God. Police had to come hold them back from breaking down the front of the store in the crush. It lasted for like 4 hours of the guys signing things, then they locked it up, the band had to wait in our tiny back room for about two more hours for the crowd to leave. First a limo drove up to the back and left, so we told the crowd the band was gone, then an hour later after the crowd dispersed another limo came for Mark and the band. The first one was a fakey decoy. So because we were all trapped in the closed store together before and after the event, our staff of like 3 employees (store mgr, me as assist mgr and the regional mgr) got to hang with them and wait it out and eat subs and sodas and stuff. Marky Mark Walberg was for sure, the nicest celebrity Ive ever met and I met a bunch in my half century of life. He's everything you'd expect him to be in person.
