I saw this man live in '08/'09 and he was in his prime. He had the contracting business and the show, he was very fit, plus he was touring, so he was stupid excited about life -- his energy was huge, even though he was only doing a small-city outdoor gig for maybe 500 people.
He looked confused for a split second about how hard the crowd went when he started, then he doubled our energy. During the Ninja Turtle Rap my friend started a successful mosh pit. He shook his head at that, but with a smile. He looked choked up at the end, when the crowd was cheering at his success and shouting praises.
I was like: dang what a nice dude, good for him. It's always heartwarming to see one of the good guys winning, eh.

I agree. I remember thinking it was interesting/different a white guy doing rap, but it ended at that. It was all about the talent. Same as we didn't care that Darius Rucker was black and did rock and later country.

I think most of us saw the video on MTV before the radio~ it was an instant success. He only had a few big hits before he got robbed and run out of town by Shug Knight . He didn't walk away with much, I don't think. He went back to Miami and became a VERY talented and successful contractor. I still love this song. Great reaction!!

The bass like is from Queen/Bowie "under pressure," you should check it out.
He went broke. Suge Knight went to his hotel room, held him upside down by his ankle over the railing & forced him to sign over the rights to ice ice baby or they were going to take him out.
He went into hiding until Suge went to jail then told the story on 60 mins.
This song sold more than Michael Jackson thriller making it the most sold album of all time.
I'm shocked you've never heard it. It's played all the time.
When it came out it was on the radio 3 times every hour, at every house party, I even memorized the dance moves to it with a buddy & we'd break it out at parties.
Skinny girls are way more attractive. No big boots Judy's, skinny Minnies only.
This song was a crossover that was played both on urban stations & pop.

This song changed the industry. He went before congress on a copyright situation because the groove was sampled from Queen. He argued that he changed it enough to qualify as his own work. The precedent set the groundwork for decades of free use sampling and copyright payments for 35 years now.
