Why are you censoring the video? Do you know who your audience is demographically speaking? I would suggest you make videos for the majority of your demo, not the exception. The exception in this case would be young bucks shouldn't be listening to certain themes or words. I grew up with this music, and as you've learned, we didn't care much for censorship. I wrote this on April 22, 2021: In high school I fell in love with a weird/hilarious/catchy hip-hop song called "Doowutchyalike" by Digital Underground. I bought the single (on cassette) and wore it out. Their second single was the popular hit "The Humpty Dance" and then they dropped their debut LP, a themed concept album called "Sex Packets" which presented Digital Underground as a huge cast of musical characters, including Shock-G, Humpty Hump, M.C. Blowfish and The Piano Man. The band's artwork was drawn by an artist named Rackadelic. It wasn't until years later that I learned that all the names I just listed above were actually ONE very talented guy: Gregory Jacobs. There were plenty of others who contributed to D.U. (including Tupac Shakur, who started as a DU roadie, then backup dancer, then MC) but Jacobs was the creative genius behind the weird and wonderfully unique Digital Underground. Sex Packets is still one of my all-time favorite albums, and I truly believe that if Tommy Boy Records would have been patient enough to let Jacobs create more carefully themed and executed concept albums, they might have been classics too. Another cool song from the days. The music scene was lit back then because there was so much to experiment with, new technology, new genres, and amazing exposure via MTV, which used to actually play music videos. A lot of the hip-hop was just so well done and very danceable, and it really didn't take itself too seriously on the surface but you know that they worked hard to get their sound. Gotta love a good groove.
I saw the Digital Underground in ‘92. Shock G did 1st half of the show as himself and then he changed into Humpty. AND… he actually pointed out a fat girl in the crowd when he rapped that line in the song 🤣

I first heard it at a house party on a big horse farm. Can’t think of another song where I can exactly pinpoint the first time I heard it. Do people even have crazy house parties and field parties any more? The 90’s were so much fun.

Love your reactions! When this song was played in the clubs the dance floor would get packed! So much fun to dance to this song! Fake nose and character he’s portraying.
I've always loved this song. I had fun playing it for my son when he was in high school. The look on his face was priceless. 😄 Im glad you young ones are enjoying these classics, especially because you’ll understand it better when we criticize today's music.
Shock G aka Humpty Hump, he was in a random store and saw those joke glasses with the fake nose and just decided to incorporate an alter ego. He's also the backup singer in the zebra striped hat in this video. Digital Underground were hip hop pioneers! RIP Shock G
Boogie, I love the bars he did in Were All in The Same Gang a collab of artists from then that time, some of whom you've reacted too before. Also around that 90's era, there was another song called Self Destruction, headed by KRS-ONE and popular rap artists collab as well. They are so very relevant today sadly. Please add those two to your reaction list, the bars are cold and the revolution must begin... again! Please do it for our people, Gen Z is in trouble 💗
Shock-G was super protective of his Humpty alter ego. He went out of his way to make them seem to be two different people. Also, you need to investigate Digital Underground in terms of George Clinton. 'Sons of the P' and 'Nuttin Nis Funky' are two of the finest tunes ever put down. R.I.P. Shock-G
I was born in '89 - this song is a core childhood memory that helped form my personality. (Thanks, aunties!) I love how it gives you permission to enjoy dancing like an absolute spastic. I took his advice very seriously as a child. I didn't realize he was supposed to look/act funny, back then. I thought he was legitimately very cool, in a non-ironic way. Little me was taking notes, dreaming of being that cool one day. 🤓 💃
Digital Underground was the Parlement of the 1990's. Shock G loved all the characters and personas that the band members would create on the 70s funk records and wanted to produce the same thing. You would buy the albums not only for the music, but also to get the next 'episode' of these characters. Humpy Hump was Shock-G's primary goofy pimp-esqe character. Shock-G grew up without much money, did a lot of mischief and petty crimes, used to DJ and play for small amounts of money, etc. But he was also the nerdy thug, he taught himself how to play piano and pushed himself with real money or anything to get a Music Theory degree. After trying many other things he found that if he embraced the strange and goofy he related to a lot more people and would stand out...and so that's eventually where Digital Underground came from. And then of course that's where 2Pac got his start. Shock-G's revolving cast encouraged and fostered a lot of people to get some experience and exposure and then go on to do their own things. RIP Shock
Boogie, You bring back great memories of New York City in the 80’s and early 90’s- The absolute best time for music and to be a part of the hip hop/rap scene.
Digital Underground's "Sex Packet" album was to hip-hop, what the Beatles "Sgt. Peppers" was to Rock & Roll. An amazing concept album that was way ahead of its time, especially in the rap genre. I was done with rap by the early 90's, so I don't know if any other great creative Hop-Hop albums ever reached the masses as good as Sex Packets was, but I'm more than happy with all I grew up with. As this track is still in regular rotation on my playlist, and "Sound of the Underground" is another banger off this album as well.
I love that you are discovering the classics! This reminds me of when my kids tell me about "this amazing new song" they've discovered on Tiktok only for me to tell them its around 30 years old. They never believe me until I start singing and/or rapping it word for word lol ! - Another old middle aged white dude
Humpty's true identity was one of the great hip hop mysteries of that age. Yo! MTV Raps even filmed the Digital Underground interview split screen so Shock G and Humpty were in the shot at the same time.
I felt just like this watching this video on MTV when it premiered! Thank you for spreading the joy & taking me back. I'm nearly too old to do the Humpty, but you got me jamming on the couch hard enough that my watch congratulated me about it! 😂
If you want to know what Humpty Hump looked like out of his costume, check out Tupac - I get Around. He's in the video without the big nose glasses and drops a verse
Shock-G was such a huge influence on the industry. I'm very grateful I got to see Digital Underground perform live with Coolio. Shock-G was influential in starting Tupac's career, and yes that was LL Cool J in that video. Digital Underground was the bomb! RIP Shock-G.
The dude in the zebra hat @7:21 is Shock G, AKA Humpty- same guy, Gregory Jacobs. Yes, he invented multiple characters. As an FSU alumnus, I can say; these guys used to play on campus frat parties all the time. This was pre gangster rap so, it was 50/50 black and white, and everyone had an amazing night. We can get back there, people...

Same here. I'm still in my 50s but this record was pissing my folks off from my bedroom in HS, lol.
@@hosswildcat Same! Club Gen X here.
This is my JAM!!!
Heard of 2 Pac ? He's starting right here ! Dancing this video and drops first rap on "same song". SAME SONG is the name of the song 🎵
Yup, definitely go check that out!

Money B and Pac worked at Music Unlimited in San Leandro for a few years. It's how the connected and started D U
“I get around” - Digital Underground
Was about to recommend Same Song. lol
This was a character he was portraying. The nose was part of his costume
I just wanna say R.I.P. to Shock G. I was stunned when I read he passed. This track is a complete classic.
If you look at the backup singers, the one with the zebra hat is the one who portrays Humpty. I'm 53, this was my era
“We’re all going to the same place at the end of the day.” Dropping straight truth, bro. 🔥
Love your reactions! When this song was played in the clubs the dance floor would get packed! So much fun to dance to this song! Fake nose and character he’s portraying.
Oh the controversy over the "Did it in a Burger King bathroom" blew up everywhere 🤣😂🤣 people came out of the woodwork soon as they heard that bar. 😂🤣😂
better than an Arby's bathroom eh? haha
Yep, our BK started locking the bathroom doors lol
@michellejones703 ours here in South Carolina did too 🤣🤣😂🤣😂
This was filmed that UC Berkeley California
Humpty Hump is a character Shock G created. Shock G is also in the video without the getup as the backup singer with the zebra hat and sunglasses
Was the boom then and still listen to it till this day. How can you go through a day without a little Hump'D'Hump
Damn, ain't heard this in 15 years. Still know every word!
I've always loved this song.
I had fun playing it for my son when he was in high school. The look on his face was priceless. 😄
Im glad you young ones are enjoying these classics, especially because you’ll understand it better when we criticize today's music.
Yes he’s in character.
Not his real nose. 🤣
I really miss the 90s!
Old Man Saxon always reminds me of Shock G when he performs. Maybe that's why I like him.
Boogie got me dying in this thing man lmaoooooo with his humpty dance !!! Get that shit youngster!! Haha
Shock G aka Humpty Hump, he was in a random store and saw those joke glasses with the fake nose and just decided to incorporate an alter ego. He's also the backup singer in the zebra striped hat in this video. Digital Underground were hip hop pioneers! RIP Shock G
In appreciation for Boogie's funky chair dancing 🕺.
Thanks I Appreciate The Donation And Support Means A Lot God Bless!🎉
Yeah, it must be really hard to do those moves at 50. 😆😅
But really, I'm 49 myself so...
I should know. 🙃 🤣
I am a classic rock guy and i LOVE this song. On my playlist. 🫡🫡🫡🤭🤭👍👍
It was a great time to be clubbin, the 80's and 90's was a lot of fun.
Showing up at the club with your boys dressed out like Public Enemy's S1W's! Ha!
Digital underground was my first concert in 1992 at the young age of 14. Song still hits after all these years.
I was 16 when this song came out! How time flies!!
R.I.P. Shock-G
I think he got the idea from Sir Nose Dvoidoffunk from the PFunk album
Shock G was a musical genius. I grew up on punk & metal, introduced to PE & DU in the late-80s and it changed my life.
Tupac over there on the background vocals! I remember having fifty people doing the party train to this track at the high school dance.
Saw digital underground live in a small venue
I was born in '89 - this song is a core childhood memory that helped form my personality. (Thanks, aunties!)
I love how it gives you permission to enjoy dancing like an absolute spastic.
I love watching young people seeing what they missed. The best time to be alive. Hands down! Please take me back.
Sound of the Underground was only on the cassette, though. I was so sad when I wore it out, and replaced it with the Sex Packets CD.
This boy is an old soul. Makes me proud to be a teenager in the 80’s🫶🏽
still packs the dance floor every time!
I still smile and get up to do the humpty dance when the song comes on..still love it.❤
I graduated HS the year this came out. Such a good era.
I wasn't quite ready when this song first hit. But a little after. Old enough to be your dad. Love seeing this music live on!
Digital Underground has been and forever be one of my favorite Rap groups of the Bay! Can I get a YEE!
This was one of your best ones . Humpty was unbelievable back in the day- still is
I bought this single on cassette back then!
Those were the days
Man! I use to listen to this song all the time in my teens. One day, I listened to how do that dance 💃🏾! It was a wrap!!! 🎶💃🏾🎶💃🏾🎶💃🏾🎶
Thanks! Love the old school reactions..keep it coming. 👊
Thanks For The Donation And Will Do CANT Stop WONT Stop …🤘🏾🎉
I felt just like this watching this video on MTV when it premiered! Thank you for spreading the joy & taking me back. I'm nearly too old to do the Humpty, but you got me jamming on the couch hard enough that my watch congratulated me about it! 😂
I miss videos so much
If you want to know what Humpty Hump looked like out of his costume, check out Tupac - I get Around. He's in the video without the big nose glasses and drops a verse
The guy in the background in the animal print hat, doing backing vocals is Shock G , the main man in the band Digital Underground. He plays Humpty
Oh hell yeah! This song was, is and forever will be a call to the dance floor. Do da Humpty Hump!
Shock-G was such a huge influence on the industry. I'm very grateful I got to see Digital Underground perform live with Coolio. Shock-G was influential in starting Tupac's career, and yes that was LL Cool J in that video. Digital Underground was the bomb! RIP Shock-G.
Yeah that’s actually Shock G (a group member of Digital Underground) portraying Humpty Lol
If memory serves: Shock G is the one that put the satin on ya panties
@ yup, and was selling them sex packets too…😂😂. That album was hilarious
When I was your age that song was everywhere homeboy.... We were all doing the Humpty hump!!!! 🍻
