DJ Spinderella... the first female hip-hop DJ in a group!! You should check out the west coast female MC : Yo Yo ft Ice Cube - Don't Play With My Yo Yo, one day...
She's actually the second.. the first was the original Spinderella, Latoya. She's the one they did their first album with and shortly after she was replaced by Dee Dee Roper.
True. But this DJ Spinderella is the one that fans know. She is the one in their very first music video (Push It) and was their DJ on their first nationwide tour with The Fat Boys as well.
She may have been first, but what did she do? This and most of Salt 'N Pepa's early hits were put together by their producer and label manager Herbie Lovebug, the keyboard player.
@@djinnee1792 True. But DJ Spinderella did write, rap, and produce, on later SNP records and she was their live performance DJ (scratching/mixing). She also inspired an entire generation of female DJs that we now see all over the world. So to answer your question "what did she do" - she became the blueprint for the female DJ in hip-hop and music in general. Recognize game.
@IceManLikeGervin you put first like she contributed something important, so I'm asking what that thing was. She picked up someone else's job and name, so she wasn't really an innovator or first. Videos and live shows, making her the same as the background dancers and as important to Salt 'N Pepa's career as LL's DJ Cut Creator was to his.
If you can't figure out what we were pushing, the dance floor would of showed you. The ladies put it out there for the pushin and we gladly pushed it. Salt n Pepa got some jams like "lets talk about sex, shoop and shake your thang."
This was my whole 6th grade. 87-88 style. This is a mood. We used to dance until the mid 90’s to hip hop until everything was gangster, dancehall (reggae/rockerss) or even house music.

This is the perfect song for mixing into another song on the dance floor. You have the beat of the last song going, then you fade in, doop, do-do do-doop.
Fun fact, I was so friggin goth, but every club I went to that played my music also played this one. It's my late teens, it's iconic. Hugs from Sweden.
I remember an interview with Salt N Pepa and Herbie Luv Bug talking about this song. It was just meant to be filler for the B side. I think the single release was Tramp or I'll take your man. They didn't have a B side so they just quickly threw this together in like an hour or something like that. They never thought it would be a hit. It then turns out to be arguably their most popular song. It never gets old.
