I played Alone in the Dark. It was fun. All you need is a napkin and some hand lotion.
I want to remind that this game is written by written of Amnesia and SOMA and this is one of best writers in game industry nowadays, not overrated pretentious hacks like Kojimbo or Drunkman, and not any of those woke ESG DEI writters. I still think that there was not any game after SOMA that managed to impress me so much with story and make me think about it for years and waiting for game as deep and thought provoking, probably only Nier Automata was close enough, but it was way too anime, while SOMA was realistic and grounded, so SOMA script impressed me more. And as fan of everything lavcraftian I can't imagine any better actively working game writter who can write something as Lovecraftian and yet fresh and somewhat unique.
But I wish this writer to get back to old studio and write soma 2 😢 or similar sci fi horror game.

Really? I kinda really digged SOMA. Amnesia wasn't bad either, though never actually completed it. I was thinking to skip this one based on that piss poor demo. But now hearing that and this review I'm getting closer to Rubicon... 🤔
SOMA is one of the best games I've ever played. I won't let its legacy affect my opinion of this trash game though

I know it's a budget game, but it's charming and it reminds me of how games used to be designed (in a fun way).
Reminds me of Murdered Soul Suspect. That game wasn't bad at all.
Back before everything was either a multimillion dollar AAA project or a small indie game made by a few people and the budget of a cheese sandwich. I miss the ps2 and before era when there was more of an in-between

I get the feeling any and all non-AAA games are TRUE gaming designs anymore. Lower budgets, lessor staff, no preconceived notions of the company, no modern day politics (for the most part), and it really feels like they are trying to make good games with no little fanfare.
Its not really budget, it has a AAA price attached to it. Might be worth playing it but at a very high discount.

So in the past 2 years we had the return of Dead Space, Resident Evil 4 remake, Alone in the Dark reboot, Alan Wake 2, Amnesia the bunker and a bunch of indies like dredge. Damn good time to be a horror fan.
I still can't believe they delivered that well with Alan Wake 2. Game was A++ as far as I'm concerned.
I'll rest happily when Silent Hill 2 remakes comes out and is actually half as good as the original.

That's just the pro localizer, IGN losers. Their word essentially means nothing.
People were saying the game is not innovative and that the game has poor combat gameplay, but then they all gave Alan Wake 2 high scores, which also has nothing so special on these areas...

This series deserves justice and respect, glad to see they did a pretty decent job at a nice lil reboot. Definitely adding this to the steam wishlist.
Alone in the dark 2 remake needs to be a thing and I'm excited for the eventual remake.
We need fight with undead pirates wearing a Santa outfit in modern graphics, it would be a masterpiece.
I think this game loosely ties AITD 1-3 together. I read that somewhere the other day.
I think a potential sequel (provided this game sells well), should have Cranby taking another case (1920s setting again), but with another playable female protagonist. I mean, the best games so far in the series did just that... 1992 original, New Nightmare (2001), and now this 2024 game. The only problem is getting David Harbour to reprise his Carnby role again unless he's probably too expensive due to the 2024 game (his salary).
With the wildly varying reviews, this is looking like a new Evil Within situation. Really have to try it myself to see.
I loved The Evil Within, so I hope this will be a similar scenario.

It's a 65 on Metacritic, but that doesn't amount to much in my mind. This game ticks a lot of the boxes I look for, so I'm buying it. Even if it is a bit middling, I want to see the AA space produce more games like this.

@@MikeG82 not by that much and it had a similarly wide range of scores that cover the full spectrum. It doesn't have to be an exact match for there to be major similarities in the polarizing reviews but ok.
I bought it. I like double A games like this. We don't get enough games like this these days.

AAA doesn't mean anything. AAA usually costs us more and the quality of many boring AAA titles today barely reaches AA level on release. The main difference is the size of the game.

I wish the game was a little on the cheaper side, maybe $40-$50 but I really dig this kind of game that hits all the B movie genre notes right. I can dig it.

Guys don't listen to haters. If you are a fan of horror games this is definitely a must play this year. The atmosphere is amazing it reminds me of classic RE games and Silent hill games. Yes gameplay is not on level with modern games but it works fine, what it lacks in combat it delivers in puzzles, music, well placed jumpscares and unique level design. This is probably the best psychological horror experience i had in years.
Puzzles! Oh boy can't wait to solve those 3 types of boring puzzles for whole game!
@@Besend522yes, the ones who make you read notes and actually use your brain. Those are hard for some people.
@@Renk1 there is exactly 0 puzzles that involve thinking. Not a single one make you read the notes, only look at the picture of a book and find only number on it.
And also there is one oddly designed one with counting the letters in words without giving you any hint at all, but maybe they fixed it later and at least bolded the words.

Every horror/mystery game can’t be a RE or Allen wake 2 sometimes you have to just appreciate the fact that as die hard horror fans we have something new to enjoy even if it is a reboot. the puzzles are really fun & the atmosphere is gorgeous plus the story is good as well, regardless of what you hear all over the net this is worth checking out & at the very least a solid 1 & done however you do have the option of choosing both play throughs👍 gotta keep supporting the genre or things could get ugly in the future & the reviews may have some validation in their criticism but that doesn’t mean their opinions are anything more than just that…THEIR OPINIONS 🤷♂️

When people claim Resident evil was the first 3D horror with a female character, it makes me giggle.

I played the original on 3DO at 8 yrs old. It was creepy AF, then a few years later Resident Evil dropped.

What a great review. Tells me everything I needed to know about it and that it is a game that I will enjoy. Already have it pre-ordered for the PC so can't wait to be able to finally play it tomorrow as I was disappointed when it got delayed from its original January release date.

Im playing this game and i must say the atmosphere is great im enjoying the game so far its slow pacing gives great time to chill and enjoy wandering around, my only issue is the combat is quite clunky but appart from it i highly recommend this game to oldschoolers.
Bugs are the only things that concern me. Everything else is what I want in survival horror. Great video, really appreciate how in-depth you went. I got the deluxe edition preordered on PS5. Looking forward to playing it this weekend.

It might not be intentional, but if it works in the games favour then it's a bonus.
It was done on purpose in the sense that the mocap budget was limited only to the two main leads. I very much doubt it was a stylistic choice

I was hyped to play this back in October when it was supposed to be released around Halloween, I had my money in my hand ready to hand it over. Then they had to go and delay it twice and now my enthusiasm has waned a bit, I'll probably still play it but only once it goes on sale for cheap

This looks great! I’ve seen other reviews giving it low ratings, but this is a much more comprehensive review by someone who is a fan of that old school survival horror I love!
I wish publishers would be more discerning with who they give review codes to. Not that I want them fishing for positive reviews but YT has no shortage of lazy reviewers looking for clicks and codes. You'd think putting together 20 minutes of well explained thoughts towards the game would be an easy ask. 🤷
@@jankmedia1985 I suspect that reviewers are being more pissy lately because of everything going on in games journalism right now. That and I think Games News sites tend to dislike AA games as they are more direct competition to the AAA companies that fund them.

Games looks fun and something I would enjoy. Something to get after some of the bugs have been patched on maybe gone on sale. I do agree that making the characters feel a bit sluggish does have a nice affect in upping the pressure in survival horror games.
I like the Selaco mug. It's in the bit at the end about the laptop for anybody wondering what I'm talking about.
I love how they didn't go for "gOoD gRaPhIcS mAkE gAmE mOrE mOnEh No MiNd BaD oPtImIzAtIoN".
It does have good graphics still, don't get me wrong, but they obviously focused more on gameplay and especially bringing the original to life again.
I saw some Steam Deck gameplay on Epic settings getting around 80fps. For a 2024 TPS game, that's a big W.
Gman once again showing true tastes for horror, seriously, the only horror games the Gaming media ever liked where Resident Evil and 3 Silent Hill game
Alan wake, tormented souls, dino crisis, dead space, among many other are also good
Despite it's glaring flaws, I still see Alone in the Dark 2024 a successful and much needed revival to this badly mismanaged series of 30+ years. This new game is already cult status material with solid gameplay, engaging story, characters and creepy atmosphere. It will gain an audience in due time and be an ideal ENTRY point for newcomers to the series, something the series has long lacked. The 1992 original (plus trilogy) is too old for most gamers to get into. New Nightmare is an underrated classic, but is also too old for most new gamers to get into and the 2008 game is a jumbled mess of mixed styles and ideas much worse than RE6.

The comparison to Alan Wake 2 from the woke press , should have been a massive hint about what this is game about... In Alan Wake game Thomas Zane was trapped in a Gene Realm when he wrote Alan Wake to combat the Gene , since the game was based on the Stephen King novel Duma Key... in Alone in The Dark from 2024 the game is 1:1... the main Character of this game is NOT Edward, or Emily, but a Black 47 Year old Female Writer Cassandra Beauregard... no this game is not woke, trust me you see the twist... SHE is the Narrator that READS YOUR OBJECTIVE NOTES!!!!! She suffered a writers Block from taking to much Morphine and wanted to take her life by jumping off a balcony ... only managed to damage her back , now forced to be a cripple and be on a wheelchair... She was placed in this asylum by her Hollywood Studio to be in a quiet place to write a Script to a WESTERN called "Slaughter Gultch" aka ALONE IN THE DARK 3!!!! But her mind wandered and she wrote You and Emily to Existence ...
Each Campaigning of this game is connected in a way , you gather objects that Unlock Memories and Knowledge that change the game and events in the game ... to make her WAKE UP
NOT GETTING THIS STORY ,shows you did not followed the game ... nor , got the needed objects to unlock it ... this is the MAIN story ... not the Gigantic Tree Boss...

Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare (2000 / 2001 - Playstation2) still has one of the best implementation of a Flashlight I ever seen on any game, the light actually bleeds into neighbor surfaces, instead of this new "modern" lazy flashlight that is commonly used in games... And it's even more amazing that there was a port of the game for the PS1 too... amazing coding optimization from the team

Price is steep considering the playtime, but the first AITD was pretty short if you knew what you were doing.
I actually like having the same outcome but different ways to reach it. Makes replaying fun and different. And from a storytelling perspective, it shows that they're different and I like that
Just beat it twice with each character. As a heads up there is a major section 3/4 through the game where depending on the character you choose you get a different section understanding their background. As well, I haven’t gotten all of the collectible artifacts yet, but I love the grace secret storyline ending as it’s just a huge Alone in the Dark 2 reference…. Here’s hoping we get a sequel!
