- A new edition of the old survival horror game "Alone in the Dark" has been released today. The developers call it a "reimagination" of the original game from 1992, as there are many references to the original (such as character names or many locations), but many changes have been made to the graphics, controls, story and gameplay. How do you like it?
The original Alone in the Dark is one of the most important survival horror games in gaming history and its gameplay was the template for Resident Evil and Silent Hill (movement in pre-rendered backgrounds, little ammunition, overpowered enemies, puzzles, poor controls...).

You can laugh at the 1992 version as much as you like, but back in the day the game was f-ing scary as shit. It even made digitized sounds go from the PC speaker, and I still remember the shock when the thing I thought by that point could only make beeps and boops suddenly made an unearthly moan 😱
Yes, it was one of the scariest games at the time. What made it even scarier was the fact that it was quite difficult, especially because of the controls and the many trial-and-error situations. I never finished it back then.
I still remember the "Bwahahahaha..." heard when you go down the stairs for the first time, and see the double doors to the study closing...
That was mineblowing 3D for 1992
Dude I picked up the game again a year or so ago and that first attack had me shaking

Ну так потому что основу взяли с оригинальной игры. Но я уже вижу, что это не ремейк. В ремейке сюжет и остальное если и меняется, то не так критично, а тут и вовсе всё какое-то другое кажется.
I've been around since Pong and the Atari 2600 so I've had the pleasure of watching the video game era develop into what it is today, and I can say with assurance that Alone In the Dark was a seminal point in PC gaming. My college roommate at the time had a PC with Alone on it and I spent many a night with the lights out walking through (and under) that pixelated nightmare mansion. Anyone who doubts the scariness of the game hasn't seen what was lurking in the tunnels underneath.

Playing as classic Carnby in the new one is great. Wish they included the original soundtrack in the mansion.
Ngl for a game that released in 1992 this was way ahead of its time and looked good for its day and age
at the same time i find it uneblievable how much better resident evil 1 looked on a home console four years later
@@exiledmonastic4650 That's probably because resident evil 1 used pre-rendered backgrounds which had very little strain on the system. If it used 3d rendered backgrounds like alone in the dark it would probably look worse honestly. I wish alone in the dark used pre rendered backgrounds too, would have made the game so much better

I don't know if you'll like my opinion, but the 100% realistic graphics make me lose interest and mystery . I'm not saying that this remake is bad, but I wished they would make the style similar to fantasy drawings and the backgrounds resemble oil paintings... touches of a beautiful fantasy world.
Imo, they should've atleast made the protagonists resemble their original versions a bit more. The remake cast looks completely different.

Wish they did that instead of the resident-evil like combat in the remake.

I like the new one, but the original is a masterpiece with mechanics that not many games have to this day, like the different ways to approach certain situations, the fights one can avoid by solving a "puzzle" (like the one with the soup or the fights in the attic) I wish the new one had a boss that could be defeated with wits instead of pure lead (thinking of you Prowler)

@@GugureSux Dont listen to this bumbling idiot its a good game at the very least. Its not triple A so of course you'll have some rough edges but it is overall a great remake and the game never tries to be something it isnt. Puzzles are fun and gunplay is actually not as bad as I was expecting. Melee combat is pretty barebones but serviceable. just a good game I recommend it

With many nods and original game references, I'm slightly disappointed we couldn't get some quick flash or glimpse at the bathtub thing from original. 😱
the new one actually makes me wanna play the original one. all these remakes looks just like any generic piece of video game, the old one's unique visual and limitation added so much to the charm.. I just realized this by now looking at both.
Big fan of AD franchise, the poster of the original trilogy have some similarities and slight diferences. In the first poster (AD1) you can see Edward leening towards the Derceto manor which can be interpreted as intrigued into uncharted lands, whereas the AD2 and 3 posters he is leening backwards in awe or shock for the deadly nightmares that awaits him. In the AD (2024) Edward can be seen in shock or scared of what awaits on the other side. Let's see if the posters of future installments, they change those little details.
Apart from that, i am extremely happy for the revival of the franchise :)

Edward used to throw hands with the demon monsters and win, but the new Edward needs his widdle guns for the scawy monsters
In the 1992 version you can shoot, in the 2024 version you can engage in hand-to-hand combat?
Yeah, it's a combo of melee and shooting, but they don't focus a lot on combat. You can easily get through the game without using any melee weapons.
In fact, Edward Carnby should've looked like Duster from Mother 3 except in a Victorian era attire

Something horrifying about the classic designs for these monsters that I don’t think any modern game could capture

Still prefer the classic one, it was honest, didn't cater to anyone. It was just a game, take it or leave it, that's it.

Makes me think of his "Hwah" when he gets injured in the original game.

Pode ser feioso hoje em dia mas por ser tão feio, deixa o jogo ainda mais bizarro...a trilha sonora estranha..os ângulos das cameras...tudo é muito bem pensado..os sons dos passos...tudo isso em 1992!!

Ele vai te prendendo com a trilha sonora, livros e manuscritos...vai despertando a curiosidade da pessoa, muitos puzles inteligentes. Tudo isso de forma bem solitária nos anos 20/30.

I was discussing with my sibling that part of the scariness of the og was that there wasnt any real battle mechanics but you were able to avoid encounters strategically. looks like thats not the case in the remake which is kind of disappointing. remove the helplessness and you remove the fear factor

I really loved the Gampeplay.
Everyone saying the remake looks like a ps3 game hasn't played a ps3 game lmao. The game is not the most beautiful but it is very pretty and realistic, especially the faces. The motion capture is amazing and the detail on the characters is phenomenal.

Yes, the original is an important part of gaming history, as it was the blueprint for the gameplay of Silent Hill and Resident Evil. But be prepared for pretty bad controls and a lot of trial-and-error situations. I played it as a child when it came out in 1992, and boy, I was both frustrated and scared...
@@GameIntrosFinales Ah yeah thanks for the heads up. I’m finding the new one a challenge on old school difficulty but enjoyable. Surprising how low people scored this game tbh I bet a lot of reviewers skipped most of the dialogue and clues with lore.

Was kinda hoping they would do it like A new Nightmare, keeping the camera angles of the older games, but instead they made it in the generic mold of Resident Evil 7.
