- This is an unusual review, because Automotive Engineer David Chao reviews a 2002 Toyota Century - a true flagship car that is unlike anything else in the market. This is a JDM model that belongs to David’s cousin (thank you for letting me use this car, Lawrence!), but David has been driving it for a week. David, Putting aside the Century's exclusivity for a moment, the traditional sedan shape is a sight for sore eyes. This is a sedan that is not pretending to be a coupe. Its rear seat is so spacious and its classicly upright form avoids the chopped rear roof line that afflicts 99% of the sedans that followed the original CLS. As the pinnacle of Toyota craftsmanship, it would be an excellent addition to your company fleet and a wonderful way to commemorate the upcoming milestone of 100,000 SUBSCRIBERS . 🎉🎉🎉🎉😉
The Century has always been a beautiful car even before any you-tuber in the US ever heard of it. I used to live in Japan for quite a number of years and anytime you saw a Century over there it was always driven by a chauffeur. Thanks for posting this. Just beautiful. Too bad they re-located the mirrors. It would have been nice to see it with the fender mirrors.

A Singapore hotel I used to stay at had a few of these and it was always a treat to be driven to/from the airport in one. Quiet, spacious, and silky smooth but I never noticed the shoe horn or the pass-through seat. So cool to see one again! By about 2005 they had all been replaced with Volvos 😢

I recently discovered this car. I don't know how I did not know about it, Seriously, considering its workmanship and outstanding quality Even I was moved to want to own one of these. But I don't feel like that I Would have the mechanical expertise. It would need somebody who would completely appreciate the craftsmanship/ complexity
more of an understanding of its workings/ maintenance.

In a German magazine they explain this microphone in the back center console is for connect to a tape recorder, so the passenger can record orders for the secretary.
Much nicer than my Buick Century.

Just read today that Toyota is bringing out a Century SUV, do you know anything about it?
I have watched a lot of videos on the Toyota Century l live in Australia myself and there are a few for sale you can pick them for around aud $20000 one thing l realy like how the paint came out on your video it is superb the videos usually show the same thing because they are all similar some had leather instead of the wool material l prefer the wool and l did like you mentioned about the wood how all the grain matches and its real wood no from a plastic tree and you had a distinct advantage is because you can read Japanese one if two draw backs with the Toyota Century the other one is that V12 would not be to economical
Maybe you can get a hold of a Century Royal (stretched) version some day??? 😂

Did you ever buy the Century? If so, about how much do you spend on gas per month? I know the gas range is only 9-14mpg, but how much do you actually feel that?

If you buy it maybe you can have someone from time to time chauffeur you around so you can enjoy being driven around while sitting in the back seat being massaged in a reclined position.
How does the paint thickness compare to Land Cruiser?
Nothing else comes close to the Century.
If you don’t want the century I’ll gladly buy it from your cousin if possible!
Plus they used oil based paint, not the water crap paint they use now.
As a car Guy even David is kind of lossed in the back seat discovering the tons of goodies at the same time as us
