I remember watching an episode of Gomer Pyle on network TV, as a child with my family. At any rate, Sergeant Carter was feeling guilty for being mean to Gomer Pyle whose motives were always generous and kind though often misguided and disastrous. Anyway, Carter was talking to Corporal Boyle about feeling bad about mistreating Gomer. The camera was focused on Boyle while Carter confessed. Sergeant Carter commented to Corporal Boyle that it made him feel very small. The camera panned right to Carter, who was absolutely tiny sitting in his regular sized chair. This was a noteworthy special effect for this time period, and everyone who saw it got absolutely hysterical with laughter. And then, that episode was over. People talked about the episode for days. It was so unexpected and silly that it was one one of the funniest things that I ever saw on television.
Clarksville, Tn is about 30 minutes from where I live at and I have been to his grave. There is also a statue of “Sgt Carter” in downtown Clarksville. I have also been there and seen that. Clarksville is where the 101st Army base is.
Frank Sutton cud not pass the Marine Corps. physical, so he enlisted in the army. He made many landings on hostile shores in the Pacific. This is why they R called the greatest generation. God bless all of America's vets.😊
I loved his characters. RIP.
Yes, very good character actor, and a good human being🫡
Provided a convincingly real character to his assigned role as Sargent Carter. He did it with such polish and finesse.
