Awww this TV show brings back so many great memories.🥰 When I was little my Nan Nan and I used to watch this together when I slept over at grandparent’s house. I remember used to come on at night. After a fun or busy day, in the evening I would get my bath, get comfy and watch Mel’s Diner, along with The Jeffersons.
Thank you for sharing this! My husband and I still watch reruns of Alice and it brings me right back to my childhood. It was one of my favorite shows and I must have been watching it when I was around 5 or 6 😂 Linda Lavin was such a wonderful singer!! Loved her and the whole cast ❤
I think going to see the diner from the show is so cool. I missed TV shows like Alice. They don't make TV like this anymore. Linda Lavin will be greatly missed. ❤
If you get a chance to eat there it's very good food. The ownership now are great. I loved watching the show. So it's neat to have it here where I live.
Thanks for taking us there. Watched the show a lot in syndication in afternoons when I was a kid. Memorable episodes was when Mel bought a Porsche and when Tommy got the dirt bike and broke his leg.
I remember I used to watch Alice; a long time ago; she was funny ; and I had a lot of fun watching it; Alice and I want to say God bless Linda lavin 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Thanks for sharing your experience and visit with us all. I grew up as a kid watching the old reruns and I enjoyed this show a lot. So many memorable quotes from the show still used today. Thank you so much.
When I moved to Phoenix in the 80s, I used to beg my parents to take us to Mel’s Diner but they told me it didn’t exist it was just a tv show. So I never knew that there was a place that actually was called Mel’s diner in Phoenix.
Was a great show.they got themselves in a bunch of crazy predicaments but you could easily see the comraderie amongst the cast.they really did get along well.
Linda was a fine actress with lots of character . She played a convincing street smart funny attractive new york detective on the Barney Miller show . I believe she left when her talents were recognized & was offered the role of Alice . God bless you lovely kind Mrs. Linda Lavin ❤ Good crew on Alice watched it quite a bit in elementary school during summer break . P.s. Vic Tayback was a cool actor with a cool name . One more thing , "kiss my grits" "Dingbat"
I was fortunate enough to meet Diane Ladd in North Little Rock, AR when I was a floral delivery driver. She was here filming a movie with Ashley Judd. Sadly, I never got to meet Linda Lavin, whom I loved and admired so much, as do so many of us who grew up watching Alice.
The wife and I went here for breakfast a few years back. After looking around however, I lost my appetite. I think Mel was the last one to clean the place. Looks like it has been fixed up a bit. Love your show Jason
Totally binge watch the Classic 70s to mid 80s TV shows.. they totally should sell menus... Unfortunately I don't own Alice yet. Cause it was The MOST EXPENSIVE DVD collections the last I checked... And your omelette looks like the United States.... And ALICE DVD set is TOTALLY on my list for very next buy... It was the Best... She was AMAZING.. ALSO Shocking. She responded to a comment of mine on her UA-cam channel one time. Hope it was her ..LOVE ALICE. AMERICAN CLASSIC. BAR NONE...
Did you watch the Clint Eastwood movie called the Gaunlet? They film some of the movie in Phoenix. The ending where he drives the bus up to is the police station, which was The Phoenix Civic Plaza. They have removed the building, and I don't know if any of the Plaza remains. I haven't been downtown for about 12 years. A scene from the movie American Ninja where one ninja was chasing after another ninja frim a top a large building, anyway the fire escape stairwell and door out to the ally was Phoenix Job Corps. Which is still there today.
I remember back in the late 70s on Sunday nights watching on TV the jeffersons, Alice and Nancy Drew and the Hardy boys along with Wonderful world of Walt Disney movie night... aaawwwww the good ole days 😢😊
I've been binge watching Alice for a few weeks now and just days after googling the cast and being so excited that Linda Lavin was still alive, it was announced that she passed. You can only imagine my sadness. I, like everyone else back in the day, watched Alice as an 80's kid, but I hadn't seen it since then. I'm happy to report that, not only do I still remember every single word of the theme song, but the show still holds up to this day. And how did I not realize back then that Tommy was the real life brother of Jo from The Facts of Life?? They're the spitting image of each other! :)
Linda Lavin has been gone for a month now so she sang theme song herself in the 1970's and she was so wonderful and I miss her very much as anyone who remembers her fondly
Having starred in classic films such as THUNDERBOLT AND LIGHTFOOT,MANSION OF THE DOOMED(truly one of producer[/filmmaker] Charles Band's best [yet darkest and bleakest] films)),BLOOD AND LACE,and LEPKE,actor Vic Tayback was truly The Man as ALICE helped get Vic widely recognized as a respectable actor with an impressive film resume(as well as his Mel's Diner and his Mel's Famous Chili[which I hear was actually pretty damn good]). ALICE was also a damn great show, too(and I hear that ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE is also an equally great film). Peace to the late great Linda Lavin.
Pretty cool!...I didn't know...That show was perfectly cast and pretty funny as I remember...there was also a spin-off of the show called "Flo" (80-81).
I’ve been there MANY times, Everything was excellent (Except Sausage Gravy, Good but not great). The breakfast crowd did seem like regulars. Coffee was super great and your cup never goes below half. The workers and customers are all great. They did have shirts and a few souvenirs in a small glass case at the register. Lots of nostalgia on the walls and a nice feeling of “Retro Art Deco” that was well captured in the video. Well done Sir.
This is also the diner in that Charles Bronson goes into in the 1979 movie Love and Bullets. Near the beginning of the movie. When Charles Bronson's cop friend blows up in the cop car in the parking lot.
I love the show Alice growing up! Me and my family watch it every week. Kind of had a bit of a crush on Linda Lavin in the early years 😅 what a great time
Actually there's a few different versions of the theme song on Alice. They changed it a few times. Same lyrics but different tempo.Ones kinda slow while the others are faster.
This was cool Jason I watched Alice growing up shows like that are historic, remember F Troop 😂 thanks J! I missed the Stephen Pearcy, Quiet Riot show in New Mexico on November the 9th i could not make the drive which sucked i have not seen a live show since Slayer 2019 final tour. Being injured and broke is hard living 😢 peace man🎸🥁🫡🍻
I used to watch this as a kid but mostly reruns early 80's to mid 80's I think I didn't understand it fully or could appreciate or laugh at it until a bit older around the mid 80's. And am surprised to know there was a real cafe diner location, it would have been very cool if they could have remodeled the interior to match the tv set exactly more but maybe that's not practical
It would have been even more epic if Warner Bros would have taped the show at the actual diner. Would have been great for business, as long as they taped outside of business hours.
That was interesting. It seemed like the characters were on their way to California but their car broke down in the heat of Phoenix and they got stuck in Phoenix because they ran out of money. Phoenix seems to be the place where people move when all else fails and they are broke and desperate.
This is great! I am a huge fan of Alice. I met and watched Linda Lavin perform 3 years ago in Palm Springs Piano/Singing set just like she did in Alice
Via roadside architectures website: Mel's Diner was installed here in 1963 as Lester's Diner. I don't know what company manufactured the diner. Grand Avenue was US 60, the main highway to LA before I-10, thus the location of a diner there. It goes in a NW direction out of Downtown Phoenix, unlike most of Phoenix which has a grid street system.
Diane Ladd was supposed to be at the Hollywood Show in Burbank. But canceled. I believe due to the fires. I’m hoping she’ll attend in either June or September
I remember a bit of the TV show Alice there were a lot of good TV shows in the 1980’s my favourite was The Dukes of Hazzard I thought the General Lee car could fly. I think Flo from Alice will be saying her famous saying of (KMG UA-cam liked version of the original) to when she sees the long list of coffees now available at Starbucks and if she has to make and serve all of these coffees she will be telling Mel to really KMG I do not get paid enough to make and serve all of these coffees.
I used to watch the show in the afternoon, Mel was the owner and cook and he yells alot for Alice when he wanted something done quickly. Lol Flo always says Kiss my Grits lol to Mel only.
We go to Mel's diner two times a month for breakfast and lunch. Mel's diner is not open for dinner we would get the big breakfast and for lunch a steak and cheese sandwich and the soup of the day of side order of French fries my husband would get the hamburger and soup of the day and side order of French fries.
Great show from the 70s and 80s. Thanks for making this.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it
I loved this show, brings back childhood memories! RIP Linda
I do remember loving this show, though. Thank you ❤
Thank you for watching and sharing the memory

loved Henry the phone company guy on that show. watched all the shows like you
RIP Linda Lavin and RIP Marvin Kaplan, who played Henry the lineman. He died not too long ago back in 2016.
If you get a chance to eat there it's very good food. The ownership now are great. I loved watching the show. So it's neat to have it here where I live.
Very cool! I’ll have to go back and try something else, can you steal a menu for me? Lol
Mel was a teddy🧸🥰
The cast worked so well. And there were SO many cameos and guest appearances.
Including Martha Ray as Mels mother.😊
Thanks for taking us there. Watched the show a lot in syndication in afternoons when I was a kid. Memorable episodes was when Mel bought a Porsche and when Tommy got the dirt bike and broke his leg.

I@@WasteSomeTimewithJasonGreenI loved this show Awesome to see it 👍❤️
Actually, Tommysprained his foot on the dirt bike. Just saw that episode!😊
Yea couldn't remember for sure. I think Mel ran the dirt bike over Tommy's foot or something like that.
He got The years wrong

Don't we all miss our youth, if we're being honest.
@@debrahigh7968 Honestly.... Absolutely ‼️💯
My father loved Flo. He watched it and said, "There's my favorite actress."
Haha nice!
I would have told her to KISS MUH GRITS! 😊
Rest your sweet soul in God Linda Lavin ❤️ ♥️ ❤
Awesome!! Thank you. I miss them all.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I met Linda Lavin and got a pic with her. I told her my mom and I watched her show and my mom was a single mother. She loved that ❤

They definitely worked great together in a small space most the time
Loved watching the show with my mom as a kid. Great times. The menu is so cool. Thanks for the video.
I’m glad it brought back memories and you enjoyed the video!
GREAT VLOG! The show ran until 1985.
1:07 I lived in that green apt complex behind it for 2 years. Bad neighborhood but that diner has great food. Always busy as you can see
Yeah the food there is good
What a great show from our youth! Thanks for this video Jason! Brings back memories! ⚡️⚡️
Glad to bring back some memories!
oh yeah "kiss my grits" was a thing for us in elementary school back in '76 lol. Especially being from the south.
Haha I could imagine

@@catlady8324 I think that phrase came from Happy Days tv show.

The theme song takes me right back to the late 70's, early 80'. I watched that show when I was a young child.
One of the greatest theme songs ever, still gets stuck in my head

Awesome! Damn I think Polly is the only one left alive from this show now.
Polly from the original cast and Diane Ladd & Celia Weston from the later episodes
@ ah okay, I know Polly is every bit as old as Linda was. Flo was the best on that show! 😂

I wonder if the name of that movie was Kiss the Girls With Morgan Freedom? That was a good movie.
@vickielawson-ur1it no, it's called, "Come Early Morning."
