Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy were never a married couple, He was a devout Catholic and couldn't divorce his wife even if he wanted to marry Hepburn. These two were paired together in films and shared a deep platonic love for one another. There are rumors about them both being gay, but they are just rumors.
"...Platonic love..."??? They lived together, unmarried (possibly not openly until after his wife died, I'm not sure about that timing). But, I've never once heard any suggestion that their relationship was platonic. 😏

Read "Madam Valentino". I forget the author. Rambova was highly sucessful when she married relatively unkmown Valentino. His career exploded and he became a hot commmidity. She did not want to be Mrs. Valentino and became a pain to the studios. I saw her as the first real feminist at war with the system. The system won. They divorced but they had a rollicking good time while together. After the divorce she never spoke of him again. She married a Spanish nobleman, was targeted by both sides -- communists and Franco-- in the Spanish Civil War, barely escaped with het dog and her life, became a respected Egyptologist and died from sclerodoma sometime mud century having never capitalized on her relationship with Valentino. A fascinating life story.
Agree. When Rambova was told Valentino had died it was reported she was inconsolable. She stayed in her bedroom away from those trying to be there for her 3 days without coming out without for food.
@@Mr5thWave Thanks. I'm a fan of Rambova. She led a fascinating life. Her mother escaping with her when she was five (from an abusive relationship). Her father had been a Civil War officer (maybe general?) Her mother then married a wealthy owner of a cosmetics company but Natasha was sent to boarding school in England and wasn't even brought home for summers. Her real name was Winniford Hunnicutt (sp). She changed her name when she joined a Russian (I think) ballet troupe which toured the USA. She and the troupe's lead danger/CEO(?) had an affair and when she tried to leave him, he shot her (buckshot) in the leg. Somehow she got work as a set designer and was quite successful. That's when she met Valentino and the two had a steaming affair. He wasn't divorced at the time they married (in Mexico) and Valentino ended up in jail (briefly) for bigamy. (Hollywood morals were quite different then). If you are interested in Valentino and that era of Hollywood, I strongly suggest seeing if you can find "Madam Valentino". Another good book on Valentino is "Dark Lover" but I can't remember whether the author treated Natasha fairly. Most didn't. I think she was disparaged primarily because she exerted a lot of influence over Valentino during their marriage (remember, he was from Italy and probably not that facile with the nuances of Hollywood and business). He became a hot commodity. I believe (my memory may be faulty) she engineered one of the first actor strikes when Valentino refused to do something (can't remember what) and he and Natasha went on tour while he was unemployed. She did overstep in all likelihood, but keep in mind she and Valentino were about the same age and he died at thirty-one, so she (smart as she was) probably didn't have but so much wisdom. Hers is a very interesting biography and would make a fantastic movie if Hollywood made movies like they used to.
@@MsGrowltiger Wow! You’re a juggernaut. Agree, that’s a movie begging to be made. Old, old Hollywood had such complex characters. Thanks for the book tips.
Hepburn needed to keep the love story with Tracy alive. They were two great artists. God bless them and give them peace.
I think that they really need to check their information. Definitely wrong on a number of facts. Hepburn and Tracy were never married, so it makes me doubt a lot of the information presented. Also Tyrone Power was bisexual, presenting him as homosexual is incorrect. Do better research!
No one involved in a video like this is going to "check their information", because there is no human involved in creating it who could remotely be considered to be a researcher, a writer, or an editor. Would have been nice to point out that Sylvia Fine was way more than a piano accompanist. She was an accomplished songwriter in a male-dominated field, and knew exactly how to write clever patter songs that would show-off Danny Kaye to best advantage, including possibly his most famous performance, "The Maladjusted Jester."
Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy weren’t married. He was married to someone else. He and Katherine Hepburn had an affair which was certainly a real one, Hepburn was devoted to Tracy.
Tyrone Power was so beautiful some people just HAD to assume he must be gay or at least bisexual. No proof, just spiteful innuendo. Married 3 times and had loads of affairs with his leading ladies. And as you say, he's not around to defend himself.
As a gay man who has never "been in the closet", I find these stories both heart breaking and angering. Also, I'd like some proof to back some of these up.
She might have been bisexual, but it's well documented that before she met Tracy, she was madly in love with Howard Hughes and very nearly married him.
There's so much in this video that is either just speculation, rumor or downright false. Robert Taylor, Spencer Tracy, Cary Grant and Danny Kaye all were not gay. Spencer Tracy, for whatever reason, wouldn't divorce his wife to marry Hepburn. He also had affairs wth several other actresses including Joan Crawford, Loretta Young, Myrna Loy, Ingrid Bergman, Lana Turner and Gene Tierney. Taylor and Stanwyck met in 1936 when they starred in the only film Stanwyck made at MGM in the 1930s, 3 years before she and Taylor were married. Her next film for the studio wasnt until 1948. Stanwyck was devastated when Taylor asked her for a divorce in 1951. He married actress Ursula Thiess a few years later and they were married until Taylor's death at the age of only 57 in 1969. Stanwyck regarded Taylor as the love of her life and took his death extremely hard.
Read Scotty Bower's book, Full Service, he also has a documentary, Scotty Bower & the Secret History of Hollywood. There are many other sources that make the same claims because these were considered 'open secrets' in show biz. You might be surprised how many celebrities were/are homosexual or bisexual.
Spencer Tracy' wife was a very devout Catholic and they had several children. He agreed with her NOT to divorce her which would shame her and the children.
At least you showed a clip from an Australian tv show called Bandstand. It’s the one where Liza Minnelli and Peter Allen are being interviewed by a man wearing glasses who was the host of the show. His name was Brian Henderson. Peter Allen performed regularly in that show as one half of the duo called the Allen Brothers. His singing partner was not his actual brother.
Tyrone Power married Annabella against the wishes of Fox boss D. Zanuck. Barbara Stanwyck attempted suicide when Taylor asked her for a divorce. Tracy and Hepburn kept their relationship absolutely secret and it was only known in the Hollywood world and was never made public until the death of Tracy's wife (16 years after Tracy's own death). This video reeks of sensationalism of the worst kind.
Why was Spencer Tracey and Hepburn shown several times? He was NOT gay. Neither was she. They had an affair that lasted years. He wouldn't get a divorce, I had read, because of his church. Such a shame. They could have been married and happy.

The relationship between Grant and Scott was not really a surprise. Photos of the two of them have always circulated. But Grant’s fame and good looks led him to marry several times.
This subject came up by the jealous while they were living. They stopped being friends. They denied a homosexual relationship. Just two people without male friends in Hollywood. Won a large suit against a newspaper years later. Knowing their beliefs why humiliate them now?
Rudolph was never involved in a “gay” relationship after he and Cary room together for “bro” convenience…parts, and money was short for them both at the time. Same sex roommates were, and continue to be the norm.
I've never believed that Stanwyck/Taylor's marriage was a lavender one. Barbara adored him and was devastated when it ended. Instead of this so-called "lavender marriage", you might have used Van Johnson (the 2nd top box office actor of 1945 and 1946- Bing Crosby was 1st) and Eve Abbot Wynn's. MGM forced Van to get married and Van chose the wife of his best friend, Keenan Wynn. They remained BFFs and MGM gave Keenan better supporting roles.
It was kind of tedious how the script reread and rearranged the same words over and over again, as if from reading from a checklist. And, as others have said, Tracy and Hepburn were never married.

A lot of this is based on rumors and how these rumors get started I don't know. In the case of Rock Hudson, there is evidence from his ex-wife etc. But most of these people are dead and cannot put down the rumors. Now, Elsa Lanchester admitted her marriage to Charles Laughton was a front for him and Angela Lansbury also said her first husband, Richard Cromwell liked men. Yeah there are many reports of their great love for each other especially hers for him. It was no secret that she adored him. And he her. I don't know where they get this at all. Seems like nobody did any research.
Janet Gaynor only had one marriage before Adrian, to aspiring writer and later lawyer and realtor Lydell Peck, who was allegedly physically abusive to her. She retired after marrying Adrian, so the reasoning of marrying to protect her career is not accurate. Adrian had experimented in his youth, but decided against it. He and Gaynor had one son, who shares physical resemblance to both parents. Gaynor remarried after Adrian's death to producer Paul Gregory and remained married until her death. These things are easy to research since these are primarily public people. Gross misspellings add to the specious quality of these assertions. Adrian dropped the surname Greenberg in 1921, some eighteen years before marrying Gaynor. He combined his first name with that of his father to become Gilbert Adrian. Danny Kaye was the victim of an angry biographer be chose not to work with and who retaliated by creating a fake story about his relationship with Laurence Olivier. Sadly there is an audience eager to believe these stories, I guess because it makes them feel better about themselves by being critical of those in the public eye.
This video is neither terribly revealing (virtually all of the content has been easily available elsewhere for a long time) nor particularly well-made, sounding like it was written by an inferior AI program--virtually every segment repeats the premise that these marriages were entered into to avoid public scrutiny, and how they add to the complexity of lavender marriages. The vocabulary is pretty dated (the women are referred to as "homosexual," a usage that went out of style in the 1970s in favor of the term lesbians), and the frequent reiteration that heterosexuality is "normal"; it may be normal for heterosexuals, but is completely abnormal for a gay individual. Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy were never married, something not pointed out in the narration, and there are more famous "lavender" marriages not included, such as Vincent Price and Coral Browne. I think some of the other comments posted, such as protesting that Barbara Stanwyck and Robert Taylor's marriage was not a sham, indicate how strongly many people still want to deny the reality of gay people in Hollywood.
I believe their first ceremony was illegal resulting in his arrest for bigamy. They lived separately for a year and were then legally married, but divorced a couple years later.

Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy were never a married couple,
He was a devout Catholic and couldn't divorce his wife even if he wanted to marry Hepburn.
@ Spencer Tracy's Wife Louise Brooks outlived Spencer by 16 years he died in 1967, she died 1983. They separated in 1933, but never divorced, so SHE was his widow.
Tracy’s WIFE wouldn’t agree to a divorce as she was the devout Catholic.
Not devout. A devout Catholic doesn't commit adultery.
Yes. A close friend did not believe their relationship involved sex
@@MsGrowltiger scleroderma was diagnosed mid 20th century!? Amazing. Did not know that.
Thanks for the mini-bio on Rambova. Had no idea!
Just read up on her childhood, her parents, her brother, her upbringing, the culture she grew up in, the trauma she suffered, her choices as an adult and what she identified with in Spencer Tracy. They were two great artists. God bless them and give them peace.
I wonder how many times Tracey asked for absolution for his decades-long ADULTERY when in 'confession'. Hypicrites both.
Poorly researched, poorly written. Interesting topic.
It was probably made by some 25 year old sitting in his parent's basement. These AI things are always garbage.

Oscar Wilde's as a Hollywood marriage?! I think not!
Hepburn and Tracy were never married.
Right! They just had an affair - how Mrs. Hepburn called it.

What I object to is everyone trying to rewrite the story of some people's lives when clearly they weren't "gay". And Tracy and Hepburn were NOT gay.

I've never believed that Stanwyck/Taylor's marriage was a lavender one. Barbara adored him and was devastated when it ended. Instead of this so-called "lavender marriage", you might have used Van Johnson (the 2nd top box office actor of 1945 and 1946- Bing Crosby was 1st) and Eve Abbot Wynn's. MGM forced Van to get married and Van chose the wife of his best friend, Keenan Wynn. They remained BFFs and MGM gave Keenan better supporting roles.

Wrong

People, please do not just trust AI. Most of these stories are untrue.
