your plants just look so perfect, all of them 😍😍😍 please make more videos about how to take care of them, ex: Alocasia frydex 😂. I really love it and want to get one but too afraid I will kill it 😂
Wish I came across your video earlier as I threw away the stump of Alocasia Amazonica after losing plant to root rot. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I did repot my Frydek & separated the little babies after learning from you.
THANKL YOU!! Finally someone with some serious knowledge of Alocasias! I've watched 5 or 6 videos and none of them were anywhere near as good as what you put out.. So again THANK YOU so much!! Now on to watching another one of your videos. :) :) :)
I just got my first alocasia and I'm in love!! Now I want them all! Sadly, my new Polly's leaves got damaged in the cold during shipping (even with a heat pack) so I appreciate you letting us know that it can survive if it drops leaves. I know I should have waited but I needed a plant fix!!
You are so right about the Frydek. I think it is the prettiest Alocasia. My humble opinion. I love my Amazonica too though😁. I think I might move the dragon scale so I may get one at some point if I find it on the GTA.
Thank you so much girl!!!! God Bless you. I wasnt sure if mine was dormant or just straight dead. I bought mine from walmart on clearance, about a month back lol.. with one large leaf on it, but it was beautiful! An allocasia polly or amazonica I believe, so hoping I could save it, I brought it home to my 1st place & ofcourse it's winter in Colorado right now. So naturally the leaf shrivelled with time & I knew had to research before giving up on her. Your 3rd stump method may be my life saver. Found 2 corms at top of plant so far, havent looked for more but I do have like 7 or 8 inches of stump as well on mine. Greatful It was established at one point b4, ha this is one of the best plants I couldve found 2 save, I guess. Thank you again, so glad for your knowledge! You have probably saved a few alocasias from the trash. :)
Was never that interested in Alocasias (don't hate me!) but you may have just changed my mind!! Yours are soooo beautiful!! I see the amazonicas at my local stores all the time ... next time I'll pick one up... :)
It's cool to know you live in a freezing, dry climate just as I do. I have my Alocasias coming out of dormancy and its 15 degrees and snowing outside...and 38 liters worth of humidifiers running at all times. 😂 Before this I lived on the coast of California and could grow anything. Indoor Alocasias didnt go dormant lol 🙄😅😂😁 I love your channel and the information and input you provide. Plus, you seem extra sweet and that's always a wonderful thing. 🥰😊
THis is the FIRST video I've seen where anyone has even mentioned bulbs!!! My plant has many bulbs sitting at the surface and they never grow into baby plants. My mum plant has never sprouted baby plants, just bulbs. What do I do to grow them into other plants?
Great Video! I got a Azlanii from Crystal Star a month or so ago and finally repotted it today and found 3 bulbs, but i think 2 may be toast, as they are black.
This video was super helpful. I purchased the IKEA wide Milsbo and purchased a Frydek and 2 Maharani from Etsy.com. Both are doing very well in the case. I am looking forward to fostering plant babies in 2021. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
I love my Frydek too! Haven't had the chance to make babies from ot yet but your video has been most helpful for when I do. I also want more Frydek's 🥰
Can you please do a video containing the methods you’ve used. I have a zebra one. My first which I saw in the store and fell instantly in love. It’s not dying but she’s VERY much a drama queen. There’s two of them in the pot so should o split them? I love her so much and don’t want her to dye
Hello! I am also from Canada. Your Frydek looks amazing, I recently purchased one too and I have to admit that it is not doing so well… the oldest leave is yellow… I was wondering what could’ve caused it. Any solutions?! TIA
I’ve just lost all my leaves from my Alocasia Polly. The whole bunch of say 7 to I leaves just came away from the soil surface. I knew they could go into dormancy. So I have yet to investigate the root bu hopefully I’ll find that thick stem o maybe bulb that I can resuscitate .... thanks for your advice.
I have 8 baby Polly but I feel like they're all growing slow af. They're still just one leaf, I wonder how long does it take for them to pop out a second leaf?
I have seen Alocasia sarian's for low prices at box stores (they are often confused for Frydek due to similar veining), but cheapest I have seen Frydek's locally was 40$ at a greenhouse for a fairly small one and they were snatched up quick!
Hi! I live in Canada as well! I am loving your videos! Congrats! Question for you: I have several Alocasias, could I follow any of your propagation methods right now in winter or is better for me to wait until Spring? Let me know I would love to have more they are gorgeous!
Mine completely died off. And when I depotted it to see what was going on in there the roots were tiny and mushy so I figured it was a lost cause. There were a couple of tiny bulbs so I fished them out. Not too sure what I’m doing with them haha.
Thanks for sharing! New subscriber, via Crazy Plant Guy. In Saskatchewan. Gotta say, your content is great and I’m binge watching all your videos ☺️. Presumably all Alocasias require the same care? I can’t get my African Mask (Polly) to ever have more than 2 leaves at a time before they die off 🥺. I’ve brought it back from the “dead” twice since April 2020 and now working on my third time! Repotted in fresh soil a couple weeks ago and the roots are beautiful. Long, full, thick, happy roots. Is this how the plant is going to continue to grow for its life span?? Also, How do I get my Alocasia Zebrina Tiger to stop growing so tall? Only 3 leaves (2 of the 3 came in deformed). Sits at about 14” tall, skinny stems and no new leaves in months! 🤷🏼♀️. Thanks so much for any help you can offer. Happy New Year!
I don't really prefer 1 or the other... but perlite is less maintenance 😆 truthfully I just had limited perlite and spagnum stocked at home when I potted them and had to go 50:50 haha
Wow, love your collection! Four Frydeks is amazing, here in Belgium they cost a lot of money! Also quick question? Can I use leca for my dormant alocasia? I don't have spagnum moss and I just killed the last leave :( it also does not have much healthy roots yet (it was a baby plant that came to me in the mail). Thank you so much for your advise!
I only ever purchased one haha they're pretty pricey here too! I don't personally use leca much (I feel like everyone has their fav mediums they are comfortable with) but I have certainly seen a lot of leca loving plant parents with very happy alocasia! 😁
Thanks for sharing Plant Utoipa! I don't often use leca (I am more comfortable with perlite and spag since I'm more used to them) but I've heard a lot of great things!
Out of curiosity, what is the relative humidity of your home (indoors) typically during the cold/winter months? Mine is naturally around 30% and I'm in American zone 7a, but I bump it up to like 60% and then around the plant clusters/humidifier areas it is 72 to 80% humidity. I'm curious because I just moved to this zone at the end of that summer and some plants went dormant n I wonder the best humidity range or lowest humidity level common Alocasias are okay with but can still grow beautiful leaves n thrive.
Thank you, this was very helpful! I did grew a baby Alocasia Amizonica from bulb (yay me☺️). I can never get the mom plant to have more than 3 leaves, I get a new one, one dies... is that a thing or can I do something about it? Otherwise once I figured out what she likes (moisture/humidity/light) she looks super happy & healthy.
I keep them in my greenhouse cabinets so I can enjoy them! They will survive in normal humidity too, but they thrive in high humidity 😁 also helps keep the spidermites away!!
Great video! So informative and succinct without the usual rambling filler and pointless chatter. Your plants are as beautiful as their mother. 🙂 Bravo!!!
I noticed you have not posted in a while, life gets busy. Really enjoying your channel, thanks for all the info and inspiration. Hoping to make more black velvet from corms soon. Ox 🇨🇦
So, you just break of the baby plant from the stem? I don't understand.. Or did the babyplant grow in the pot, next to its mom, and therefore has established an own root system? Because if you just break of the baby plant from the stem, there wont be any roots?
I am a new Alocasia parent and I killed my first tiny baby Dragon Scale by overwatering! But I unpotted it and found a bulb...so this gives me hope I can have a second chance, now I've learned my lesson!!! Cross my fingers! Thank you for your video it was amazing!
I have an Alocasia and an IKEA Milsbo (thanks to you)...can I keep my Alocasia Amazonica in the greenhouse (80 degree and 70 humidity)? BTW...you are amazing and I enjoy your channel.
🥰 thank you!! Yes the Alocasia amazonica will love it in the greenhouse! I used to keep mine in my tall Milsbo until I ran out of room and it THRIVED 😍
your plants are so healthy and look lovely , i now want more alocasia , i just have a black velvet , i am worried to get others as i live in the uk and its very cold here in the winter , probably not as cold as canada though , lol , and i dont think i could give them full requirements , and therefore keep them happy ,but yours are gorgeous :o)
I have issues with bush turkeys (a native in Australia) eating and digging up the roots/tubers. I have pulled up what’s left, what you recommend to do to re-grow them?
Hi! My alocasia wentii bulb is half rotten. I cutted it off, it has still two small bulb under. I clean it, because all the roots are gone. How long should I leave it before putting in sphagnum? Is 24 hours ok?
I just order the plug from online and the leaves are turning yellow one by one since I potted them. Not sure if it’s going dormant or shock. So hard to care for
Just wondering ... what type of fertilizer do you use on your Alocasias? And, do you have a preferred brand? I love all Alocasia and have four different types outside in my garden. I live in Savannah, Georgia, US, and am in zone 8b, so we are just over the line between sub-tropical and tropical. I bring the smaller Alocasia inside for the winter. I love the Alocasia Freydek and will have to find one! Love this video!
Finally some Alocasia content with someone knowledgeable!
🥰🌿
I totally agree!!
Absolutely beautiful
They all look like they are thriving in your care-beautiful!
it begins with a beautiful graphic intro and after that is a rollercoaster of knowledge. Love it.
Alocasia 101... your eyes SPARKLE with such pride when you introduce each type of alocasia. COOL :) thx for sharing your beautiful plants!

Heyya, how bout an Alocasia plant care video i.e. Watering frequency & root rot measures.

Thanks, I received a Variegated Alocasia this week. His leaves are not going to make it. Now I know what to do!
Oh my, I was about to throw my alocasia poly because all of its leaf were red. I will definitely try this at home
this was great ! i've always stuggled with younger alocasias but for some reason never though to try sphagnum 😲 thanks so much !!
works like a charm 😁
Yay! A video of the most difficult plant that owns me! 🌿😲
One of my favourite plants 😍🌿
Love watching your videos, you make me want to get a greenhouse! and of course Alocasia!
🥰🌿 thank you!!! The greenhouses are truly my favourite 😍 so many happy happy plants!!!
Omg, Iove love your content, such good information! What kind of potting mix do you use for your Alocasia´s? They look amazing. 😍

How do you wrap your bulbs in moss? Once you wrap them, where do you put them?
Hi! I live in Canada as well! I am loving your videos! Congrats!
Question for you:
I have several Alocasias, could I follow any of your propagation methods right now in winter or is better for me to wait until Spring? Let me know I would love to have more they are gorgeous!
It's definitely preferable to wait until Spring! You can do it now if you jeed to, but Spring would be a better time 😁
I have a bulb sticking out of the small pot from my black velvet alocasia, i don’t know whether or not cut the attached root
Mine completely died off. And when I depotted it to see what was going on in there the roots were tiny and mushy so I figured it was a lost cause. There were a couple of tiny bulbs so I fished them out. Not too sure what I’m doing with them haha.

Wow! I love alocasia. Knowing these methods, it’s about time to grown more alocasias. Stay connected. 🔔👍😉
Very helpful video thank you for sharing!
My alocasia leafs bcome yellow from the sides , since i repoting. Idk why ? Wht should i do ?
What does she pop the alocasia stump in “moist ….” I can’t quite make out what she’s saying.
OMG, you have a Dragon Scale! would you mind sharing where can I get one? I would love to have one! I just love it! 😍
They're stunning!! Some local greenhouses have been bringing them in, and I heard that out East some box stores have brought in a few!

For your alocasia propagation, do you prefer spagnum or perlite? It looks like you use both methods but curious why
I don't really prefer 1 or the other... but perlite is less maintenance 😆 truthfully I just had limited perlite and spagnum stocked at home when I potted them and had to go 50:50 haha
I just bought a polly, but before I got her home, it broke off at the stem. I'm heartbroken. Is it salvageable?
My alocasia albo was a baby when i got him shipped.. didnt know they didnt travel well until then he lost a leaf 😢
Thank you for sharing
So you literally put the bulb in moss, moisten it, cover it with Saran Wrap, and poke holes in wrap? Do you have to re moisten it or just leave it?
Wow, love your collection! Four Frydeks is amazing, here in Belgium they cost a lot of money!
Also quick question? Can I use leca for my dormant alocasia? I don't have spagnum moss and I just killed the last leave :( it also does not have much healthy roots yet (it was a baby plant that came to me in the mail). Thank you so much for your advise!

You've taken such good care of these beautiful plants! And lol everytime you said Frydek i keep thinking 'fried egg'
