This fight is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in WoW. Thank you for this guide! After upwards of 90 attempts at 934 ilevel I got it. I used the helm and highlord ring. The thing that did it for me was to burn varis for 8-9 stacks and then HoJ him so they could fall off. I was able to get him to 50% on my first round and eventually kill him with only 1 infernal to deal with in P2.

Yeh takes a little bit to learn and get on top of. Keep at it though =)
Have you also experienced Infernals constantly using their Slam? My highest count so far is Infernals repeatedly using their slam 6 times in a row with no cooldown in-between then they take a rest for a bit.. Having 2 do this makes it rather impossible.
It seems a lot more chaotic now, than pre-7.3....
That does seem odd. Are you standing in the one spot with that infernal that is repeat casting? Generally and this is stretching my memory a bit without being able to watch a video atm. But they should generally cast slam when they are in range of you, so you need to keep moving away from, or around them but if you stay in constant range of them they will keep casting slam at you. (Hopefully that makes sense)
It did make sense :).
They would slam regardless of me being in range or not (I was running in nice big circles around the Infernals). It wasn't on every scenario try, but it happened enough for me to just.. Outgear it massively and kill everything with ease (even Kruul....) which felt like a hollow win.
I'm not sure I'm impressed by the tank challenge. It felt more like I was a DD than a tank(?!).. I still remember my challenge for Fel Warlock... That was a cool challenge..
It's been a very mixed bag for the tank challenges. The reason you said above "hollow win" is kind of why I thought this would have been cooler with a scaled ilvl. From my point of view at ilvl 900 it felt like a solid challenge, that required positioning, multitasking and trying the max damage out of your character - to me that is a good tank challenge. Though, lots and I mean LOTS argue the fact that dps was every a requirement killed it being a "tank" challenge.

fuck ilvl... it's the multitasking that is killing you. The only thing i've died to, are the Infernals... literally one second i focus on one thing, back to them AAAAAAAND i'm off the map

Ok, I've decided I'm going to get the Prot Pally & Ret Pally mage towers done (despite not having played either since Cata) so this is going to be painful. But you've helped me through two of the other tanks so god willing I'll get through the third.

Bless, got it done. I didn't have a Paladin with any gear so got to 903 item level (got super duper lucky with the Leg legendary drop) and killed it in way less attempts (only 4 would you believe) than Prot War & Guardian Druid (likely because of the 75 or so ranks of concordence from the Silithus Quest chain). Got all the Mage Towers I cared about done, so just gonna toil away see if I can get some of the others just to say I got them (All Warlock, DK, Healing, maybe Demon Hunter).
Appreciated the tank guides especially as it's 100% my weakest role and I was way too focused on the wrong aspects of the fight (was way more focused on surviving than just minimising the time spent dealing with mechanics and maximising DPS)
Just completed mine. It took me about 120 wipes and 20 cups of coffee and hundreds of curses...) I must say, bdk was easier for me. With that +20 mil HP for both bosses prot pally was something very very stressful. I'm happy it's over now. Good luck everyone! The skin looks awesome. All the effort is defenitly worth it =)

I wonder if blessing of freedom wouldn't be better than divine steed for getting through the netherstomp. Looked like you were still slowed down pretty good on the steed. What do you think?
Yup that would probably work, from memory I was using diving steed in the puddles more so for the purpose of DR through Knight Templar

What number annihilate is that on? Are you using AM etc?
Great guide!! Just returned to WoW from a half-year break and i did it in 3 tries. Felt a bit too easy. My gear is not amazing (6months away takes a toll on your ilvl), 924 on the try with helm and trinket (thought ill need the absorb, i didn't), no set bonuses. I used different talents though, I tried with the suggestion at first, but then gave it a bit of thought and went back to my usual talents. I used Hand of the Protect instead of Knight Templar and Righteous Protected instead of Seraphim. One thing I noticed is my DMG is high, but I was worried about survival as on my second attempt i felt I was lacking it so I switched.
In Phase 1 your main goal is play it cool, don't rush and keep staring back at the eyes. The balls are there to be used. If you feel you are getting into a tight spot, run into one.
In Phase 2, I had a lot of the ghost ones on me and they kept refreshing Avenger shield which helped a lot actually. I kept moving and the infernals were not an issue at all. Again, if you feel you are getting overwhelmed, orb. Also stunning helps a lot, but realistically you will have time to use it only once. Either you or Kruul will die before its up for a second time.

It's amazing what a complete set of Legendary, and iLevel of 967 can do. A lot of mechanics can be avoided by just overpowering the encounter. Of course, it still take me many many attempts just to familiarize myself with the fight.
What add ons are you using for the buffs and casts and debuffs? I wanted to bring them on the screen the way you have it. I also wanted to put the focus on multiple targets like the bosses, myself and velen. Can I have your recommendations please.

You will only be able to make 1 focus target via ElvUI and macro's.

Yeh mate, you'll need to download weakauras2 - then paste all the mumbojumbo code from those links into Weakauras.
Where do you exactly copy paste all that mumbo jumbo? Is it inside the Weak auro folder inside addons folder?

I only noticed it because I normally don't use this sort of macro and it wasn't working when I tested it.

Boosted my pally 2 days ago with BFA purchase, completed mage tower challenge 1 hour before servers shut down, with 907 iLvl and on my last attempt before I ran out of shards. Absolutely over the moon right now.

I think Aggramar's Stride would be a great legendary for this as well, since it just gives you a permanent movement speed buff.
I got 0 leggos ( just came back and hit 110 a few days ago, no luck i guess. ) and i911. I have not been even able to make it too phase two. I wonder if its skill being a factor or gear holding me back or a combination of the 2. I think i have about 20 ish pulls total with about 5-10 going in full buffed ( others were just to get a feel for it all and what not. ). Wondering if i should just put this dream on ice until i get a higher i lvl or what. Thoughts?
Hey mate, Legendaries make a HUGE difference in this the stats alone are a huge boost and then there are the effects from those legendaries. My advice would be to farm content and get 2 legendaries and then come back, it's 100% doable without them, especially since the NLC came in, but 2 x legendaries equipped will make a big difference.

Out of my pally legendaries which should i use? Justice Gaze, Kil'jaedens trinket, Liadrins ring, uther's guard or Sephuz?
Sephuz is really solid for this and KJBW will be good to explode the adds quickly.
Yeah these two are definetly great and i can get through phase 1 fairly easy but it's just kruul who hits for 11 million on his 3rd cast...It's stupid and retarded, i was at 90% hp and used divine steed to negate the dmg but took a truckload of dmg to the face, it just really seems this challenge is meant for 930+ to even have a chance at it for us average tanks...
For the annihilates when you get to the 3rd and so on you MUST use a large active CD to deal with the damage, Divine Steed wont cut it on it's on with SOTR for a 3rd annihilate. Just keep at it and you'll eventually get it, just work on managing your CD's better for the annihilates.

I don't know if its DBM or my awareness, but every time i see a "SMASH" warning its already been casted and i'm flying to my death... 99% of my tries ended like this.
Have you imported the weak aura for this? When they cast the smash you'll get a shockwave icon with dodge written over it when they start the smash cast

Should I even attempt at sub 900 iLvl? I have high lords ring and the helm for legos.
There are super people who have done these at 890+ But I would recommend for your sanity to be 900+ the more gear you have and the more points in conc the easier this become s obviously =) The only good thing about starting at a lower ilvl is you can get good at learning the fight and as you get upgrades it'll get easier and easier

The morning star? That's the mage tower challenge skin bud =) Complete that and you get the shield and morning star/mace/flail
For some reason i cant get your Avenger's Shield macro to work, the rebuke macro works fine, and i cant see any difference between the two :-(
EDIT: Seems like you've put an accent instead of an apostrophe in the one for Avenger's Shield :-)

im completly over geared for this being 960 but i keep getting put to sleep and then i get returned to the mage tower while still alive
Are the NPC's dying - Velken/Korvos? If they die the event ends and you get ported, sounds like what is happening.
Not sure what this challenge has to do with tanking at all.
They got a lot of flack around that at the start being so heavily reliant on dps marks. I actually think it brings a pretty large balance to your ability to do a rotation, not stand in bad stuff and play with a retarded NPC that is the substitute for that one bad pug in your group that dies all the time lol
feel a little scummy but was to anxious to try it because I felt like I wasnt a good enough tank, so just went and tried it and 960 and killed em both within like 50 seconds with 2.3 million burst with seraphim, sephuz and soul 10/10 would recommend

I can honestly tell you the tank challenges are all about comfort. Once you reach 910 with points in concordance, you 100% have the gear/ilvl. It then just comes down to executing the fight, only way you get good at that is by ramming your head into it, over and over, best of luck mate =)

Advice to anyone doing it tm and sees this comment, get potion of old war, full consumables, drums, and activate wings and have just everything up at very beginning, I DPSed him to half health all before 1st infernal came out, once that happened I just ran around spamming the spinning hammer and shield and killed him relatively fast, then on kruul just runaround and spam stuff, use velen heals whenever u hit under half or just need help, finished in about 6 attempts

Yeh the best thing about these is that they will just get easier and easier =)
I've seen multiple people now say Velen can take a beating but from my experience he goes down faster than a cheap whore. I pop all offensive cd's on pull and I usually get to 8 stacks before avenging wrath is even up so I charge down to Velen and throw down a consecrate to quickly grab the adds, but Velen dies before they switch to me.
I've just started doing this fight and did it about 5x before bed last night and Velen died every time before my very 1st avenging wrath is up. Is this bugged now... er...?
I don't know why Velen only has 4M health while Kor'vas has 12M. It doesn't make sense.

@Avionic - I'd encourage you to just keep trying. It took me well over 100 attempts when the tower first came out on my DK. I had to learn this shit inside and out, there's lots going on, but the more you do it, the more comfortable you get in noticing it all etc
Geez I thought prot war was hard but prot Paladin just seems like I'm doing no damage at all. 920 Paladin and I can't stop getting overwhelmed. Doesnt help my legendaries were set to ret spec 👿

Haha just keep smashing it dude. Vengeance is probably the easiest of all to be honest. Paladin is up there on the difficulty scale.
Darkmech i think I'm gonna do some raids or some pvp to get a little more fluid with the paladin in general. Prot war was tough to learn on the fly, but I've war tanked almost every xpac for a time so it came back relatively quick. Still took me a ridiculous amount of pulls but I got him before too long.
Last time I touched the pally was cata! Way too rusty!

I think? i got lucky but i did it, brainfarted every time at the anihilates (im not used to tank spec) but that 1 time i kept the head cool and used any sort of defense at any anihilate it went down, 930 ilvl and 66 traits with 3x 910 relics, 23th try.. Probably not all that impressive at the 'high' ilvl but still feels really damn good, awesome appearance
