    I have completely swapped my daily drink at work from black coffee to unsweetened black tea to unsweetened green tea. The effects have been dramatic. I have a rare genetic neuromuscular disease that causes me fatigue, full body inflammation, soreness, and memory problems. There is no cure and these issues get progressively worse with age. Due to this repeat expansion disorder, my cells basically get packed with misfolded proteins and don’t work well across my full body making me tired, sore, slow, grumpy, and forgetful most of the time. Caffeine has been shown in animal models of neuromuscular disease to help, but specifically green tea, which lowers the inflammation/pain, increases muscle cell function, and improves cognitive health. However, I’ve also noticed that if I do a green tea FAST at work, I can enhance and accelerate symptom relief. What I do is have a breakfast of fruit followed by a 12 hour fast drinking 3-4 cups of green tea. By midmorning I feel fantastic and able to concentrate and work efficiently! I think this has to do with the increase in autophagy. I used to purposefully avoid eating for multiple days when young to avoid increasing symptoms after digestion (soreness, weakness, fatigue, poor digestion, brain fog/depression). I always felt better on an empty stomach, since my body was forced to clean up all the excess cellular protein, but green tea allows me to eat enough to workout and perform in my career while also getting that same symptom relief from autophagy. The other curious effect of green tea is improvement in heart rhythm and prevention of arrhythmia. Since sudden cardiac arrest due to arrhythmia is the number one cause of death by my disease, I feel like a green tea habit gives me a nice blend of direct symptom relief along with reduced risk for sudden death. I have also learned to begrudgingly like the taste of plain green tea. Compared to black coffee, it’s less bitter with more health benefits.
    Update: I’ve also found that gargling green tea throughout the day has allowed me to avoid catching multiple viruses at the hospital where I work. So far I haven’t caught Covid twice, I avoided a cycle of RSV that swept through the staff and patients, and I haven’t had the flu all year. Last year I had to call out multiple times due to catching viruses. This year, as soon as I get a tickle or soreness in the throat or nose, I gargle green tea multiple times that day. By the next morning all symptoms are gone.

      I lived in China. It is an environmental disaster zone with super polluted air, toxic water, toxic earth. Rich Chinese buy imported food. Before I tucked into my current evening meal of porridge and Brussel sprouts, I had a decaf coffee - made with a thermos of green/rooibos tea. I kinda like the bitterness involved, though it's tempered with an addition of vanilla.

      @@tracy9610 Though I do have to stress, the vanilla is wrapped up with the flavour combination of the teabag itself - not some essence or other thrown in at the last minute. On a similar theme, much the same as too bitter for some: green tea and mint, definitely more than just the sun of its parts. Really quite lovely.

      Bella Newler, the best green tea is from Japan n to make green tea do not use hot boiling water, just 70% hotness will do. I have been drinking Japanese green tea for more than 20 years 😊
      Green tea is full of antioxidant 👍

      You’d expect diminishing returns, in taste and antioxidants. I retain and add to leaves for a couple of brews in the teapot, but they’re not nice the next day

    Tea is antibacterial. It's the oils in the leafs. If you steam herbs and then let it cool you will have antibacterial oils. If you have a stye on your eyelashes use tea bag hot.

    • @PhilWhelanNow
      @PhilWhelanNow 3 роки тому +3

      Not as good, because it’s more heavily processed and diminishes the antioxidants, but it’s still quite healthy - unless & until you add milk for your ‘builders tea’ .. the milk neutralises most of the remaining antioxidant benefits.
      Try oolong tea, it tastes milky without needing milk. It’s midway between green and black tea,in processing terms. I drink all kinds, from black Earl grey, to white tea from fresh shoots.. Matcha and Sencha green teas are favourites, and you should try adding dried flowers like camomile, chrysanthemum, hibiscus to any teas.

    I can’t drink green tea or most of the tea anymore, it makes me feel very low in energy. I drink herbal infusion. Can it be because I have kind of anemia tendancies?! If anyone knows thank you. I know what you are suppose to drink it 2 hours before or after meal the time your body ingest iron. But even like that, or when I drink it first thing in the morning before eating, I don’t feel well.
    I used to drink a lot of green tea in the past but not anymore..

      Could be that that caffeine is dehydrating you. Try drinking a small cup of water around half an hour before you drink any caffeinated beverage. Also look into cold brewing as it realises less caffeine, which could lead you into not feeling fatigued.

      The same thing happens to me if I drink green tea first thing in the morning - It makes me nauseous and drains me of energy. But if I drink it in late morning, after I've eaten and been moving around, AND if I don't over-steep it, then I experience none of those effects.

    Does green tea sold in Africa show the same health benefits as that sold in Europe , China and Japan for instance ?

    • @NutritionFactsOrg
      @NutritionFactsOrg  Рік тому +2

      Hi, @abdelilahbenahmed4350! I think that might really depend on where the green tea sold in Africa comes from, which I don't know. Dr. Greger suggests favoring green tea from Japan over tea from China, due to the risk of lead contamination. More on that here: nutritionfacts.org/video/lead-contamination-of-tea/ I hope that helps!

    Green Tea is great but please keep in mind most of the green tea sold in supermarkets is dust and fannings of low quality often stale tea stored in unhealthy tea bags (bleached, glue, metal staple, tea bags made of plastic or other strange material, etc, etc, etc).
    Green Tea is great but it is not magical. A number of these studies are exaggerated, etc, etc, etc.
