I started taking one teaspoon of marine collagen powder daily, but I combine it with a teaspoon of sunflower lecithin powder or a teaspoon of soybean lecithin granules, and a teaspoon of spirulina powder.
I’ve been plant based since 2011. McDougaller primarily but eating more raw food now. In 2021 (before getting covid) my hair started falling out. It had been thinning gradually since I changed my diet and my hormones declined but by 2021 it was much thinner and then was coming out in handfuls. I had the opportunity to speak to Dr. Barnard. I let him know I had started taking collagen peptides and I got my bottom eyelash hair back. That’s when he said I must not have been getting enough protein. Brenda Davis speaks about older ladies with hair loss & thin skin caused by a pb diet which is too low in protein. I’m convinced the collagen peptides boosted my overall protein intake & has been a benefit. Being bald is ok for men but we women react very differently to hair loss. I’ve also added gelatin to my diet a few times per week. I make it with prune or grape juice. I am eating a big bowl of lentil soup each day for lunch. My hair has stopped falling out, it’s longer & thicker now. In addition to collagen and gelatin, I also now take msm.
I was leaning WFPB and at one point was 95 percent. But as a 71 year old woman with osteoporosis I find it important to get more protein than most wfpb gurus recommend, particularly the late Dr. McDougall. I eat tempeh and beans daily and add pea protein to my steel cut oats, but I now include some collagen powder as well as kefir, egg whites and some salmon. Vegan practitioners who are objective about health (such as Simon Hill and Dr. Gill Carvalho) say that plant exclusive diets have not been proven to be superior to plant predominant diets .
@@sectionalsofa Nathen Pritikin, who Dr. Greger greatly admires, noted that the human body can deal with up to about 100 mg of cholesterol a day and so, on his diet, he allowed 2 or 3 ounces of meat a day. I tried his diet when it first came out in the late 70's but I failed to stay on it. Why? Because the trouble with starting is stopping. I started with 2 o 3 ounces of meat, but that soon became 4 ounces, which soon became six and pretty soon I wasn't even following the diet any more. Even a taste of meat or any other "forbidden" food, gives you a craving for more and pretty soon, instead of eating a slice of meat or cake, I was was stuffing my mouth with it. It's much easier to have no meat or cake or candy than to try to eat just a little. As far as protein goes, a little planning will provide you with plenty of it, just eating plants. The Daily Dozen provides more than adequate amounts even for us seniors. BTW, men don't like losing hair either- you wouldn't believe how many different things I tried until I found something to be effective for for hair loss.
@@paulcohen6727what did you find that reverses hair loss? I used minoxodil for years with no noticeable results. For me, it's helped to just eat healthy, exercise daily, get enough sleep, and avoid stress or not overreact to it. And I usually skip a day or two between washing my hair.
Skin on my legs was so very dry and quite painfully thin. After taking collagen powder for a year - the results are just wonderful. I don’t even bother moisturising my legs, and I used to use a heavy cream before bed every night. Also, my skin would break easily and bleed heavily every time I scraped it. My dermatologist only advice was a thick moisturiser. I’m happy I was open minded enough to gave collagen supplement a try, as I don’t ever take any supplements (never believed in their benefits). Im not sure if it works for wrinkles but If you have thin, fragile skin you’d be mad not to try it.
Interested if you know anything about Tremella Fructiformis mushroom. Sometimes it's marketed as "vegan collagen". Are there studies about this or other benefits or risks with the consumption of this mushroom?
@@k.h.6991 It would not be collogen as collogen is only Animal based... Just marketing by the vegi food companies. As he said its not on the market yet.
Great episode! How about sleep 😴Research indicates that insufficient or poor-quality sleep obstructs collagen production. It seems that while we sleep the bodybrain systems can facilitate stress-reducing processes that support the collagen producing cells to function optimally - real beauty sleep!
My skin was bone dry. Hair falling out & totally changed my diet from Mediterranean to high protein low carbs. Lost 8llbs in the months, sugar cravings gone mo longer pre diabetic. I also take liquid fish collagen, magnesia & my skin is less dry on hands & less painful joints. I'm post menopausal by the way 😅
What about Vedge Nutrition. They claim to have an actual collagen supplement, not a collagen builder. Looking forward to your thoughts on this company. Made from carrots and broccoli. 😊
So sweet potatoes and broccoli are the best...
Great video as usual! Thank you dr Gregger for your dedication and for helping millions of people to discover the plant based lifestyle 🎉

Happy Birthday Dr.Greger🎉You updated my life , thank you so much 😊for
What about sprouts especially broccoli and Alfalfa sprouts ?
Thanks for the very useful sharing❤
Vedge nutrition just released a vegan collagen made from broccoli and carrots. What are your thoughts?
It would still not contain Tryptophan. So, no. If you think you're protein deficient, go for pea protein or something.
I'm actually super curious about this. Especially since the video didn't cover the theory of collagen production stimulation by peptide signalling

can someone give me a TLDR summary?

So you've mostly given up complex carbs? Do you still eat plenty of fruit and veg or are you finding those not to be helpful for you?

Just eat carrots and broccoli.

Check your teeth, you might have an abscess maybe.

any randomized double blind placebo controlled trials to back that up?
Ok, not everyone can stomach the idea of drinking corpse fluids, and where is your study info to to back up this claim?
