    I eat oatmeal (warm, cooked for a while) with soy milk, seasonal fruits, freshly ground flaxseeds and a handful of walnuts every single day in the morning and in the evening. It never gets boring, I'm always looking forward to yet another bowl of oats.

      @@benson5967 Your acid reflux wasn't caused by starchy carbs. Oats, rice, potatoes, root vegetables, fruits etc do not cause acid reflux when cooked with water, baked, eaten raw or steamed. Fried foods, pre-packaged / processed, heavily salted, fake sugars and protein sources with nitrites and anti-biotics do.

      I eat my oatmeal uncooked with the same ingredients. No need to cook the oats. It makes it a little crunchy. Tastes great. I get One Degree organic Foods Sprouted Rolled Oats from my health food store or online which is way cheaper. I use Silk brand unsweetened Organic Soy milk too from the regular grocery store. Best Wishes! I follow Dr Gregor and many other plant based doctors. Two of my favorite are Dr Brooke Goldner and Dr Joel Fuhrman for advice about healing of everything ! Thousands have healed around the world with their advice. Worth looking into. ❤❤

    What a LABOUR OF LOVE FOR HUMANITY, i tribute to his grandmother. The money from his books go to charity, so much information, including the SOURCES given for FREE, with no corporate sponsorships, no ads (to inconvenience us!!), no kickbacks.
    HE CAN AFFORD TO GIVE FULLY HONEST DISCLOSURE!!
    Rare gems like Dr Gregor and Dr John McDougall and their ilk - one in 8 billion!!

      Of course it's logical at some point he needs to make money from somewhere, unless that grandmother left him independently wealthy. He can be insufferably arrogant for my taste, even though overall he makes a positive contribution. He also went down in my estimation when he was openly rude towards Dr John McDougall on the topic of potatoes a year and a bit ago. To this day he has not replied to discuss potatoes generally with Dr McDougall, despite McDougall requesting a public discussion of what he thought was Greger's misinformation. Greger has claimed the only healthy potatoes are sweet potatoes, which is not the experience of Dr McDougall, who's 50 plus years experience is otherwise. I think Dr McDougall will be the one going down in history as the pioneer of plant based eating that he is. Greger explains things and makes a good contribution, but the arrogance is unpleasant and I really dislike the tendency to make Greger a saint. He really isn't. And until I have an explanation of how he supports himself economically I will have to assume he makes some significant money somewhere, because it just doesn't make sense that 100% of absolutely everything he does is for charity. Or maybe his wife is independently wealthy? It sure has me stumped.

      @@liamconverse8950 If he is, let him. He's contributing a hell of a lot, too, if the whole foods, plants-based diet is the way to go (the non-veg camp sounds equally convincing about their stand).
      Maybe he's independently wealthy.

    I started eating oat groats (whole Oats) for breakfast 5 years ago. I found they give me much slower and longer glycemic uptake than processed oatmeal. In other words I don't get a quick starch rush and subsequent quick drop in blood sugar i.e. crash shortly after. I steam up 2 cups of groats with 5 cups of water in a rice cooker. Then I scoop 4 oz./110 grams into storage containers with 4 oz plant milk and stack 8-10 containers in my refrigerator. I microwave it for 2 minutes and throw on banana, blueberries, flaxseed and walnuts and cinnamon and 4 more oz of plant milk. I've been enjoying this 300 plus meals a year for the last 5 years. I never get tired of it and it makes breakfast so easy when I have them all stacked up and ready to go. Good health and luck!

      Thank you for this! Sounds delicious. I started making milk from oat groats. I purchased a Soyabella milk maker and it has been great! I add different seeds/nuts to the groats to change it up. Sometimes I use the pulp, mostly to add to steel cut oats, or homemade Muesli. The milk is wonderful and fresh, no additives. I make about a litre every few days for 2 of us.

      so many ingredients, some of which are inflammatory.
      No need for so many ingredients, and complex preparation.
      all you need are 5 eggs, a pan, butter 🧈, zero carbohydrates. add meat optional , same pan. and pink salt

      ​@@xprcloudwhat cracks me up about people coming to a channel like this to pick a fight is they constantly ignore science and peer reviewed studies because the buzz words and butter make them feel good. Thank the corrupt government your butter isn't $20 a stick ;) I ain't going to lie to you, oatmeal isn't as tasty as a perfectly fried egg in butter, but death from a heart attack in my 40s from buzzword fad dieting doesn't taste very good either.

    My dad was recently diagnosed with diabetes. He doesn't want to listen to any diet advice, and like most people he doesn't want anyone to tell him what to do with his diet. I did tell him that I saw a video on here, without telling him he has to do it. My mom said that he has been requesting a lot of oatmeal since I said its supposed to be really good for diabetes.

      The best thing for diabetes is to stop eating omega 6 fats found in, oils, nuts, seed, poultry, pork, farmed fish and replace that garbage with ruminant animal meat (red meat).

    I was on strict carnivore diet and got TERRIBLY sick - ended up being hospitalized and almost died. Went WFPB after that and I’ve never been healthier in my life. God bless you Dr. G 💚

      almost died? cutting out sugar and carbs is so good for you.
      I've been on carnivore for 3 months and am thriving.
      I was vegan and all out died. lol! you have to mix up the kinds of meat your eating. I eat Alot of wild Icelandic Cod/ wild Sockeye salmon, organic Lamb Chops, scallops, oysters, prawns, crab legs, eggs, raw organic unpasteurized cheese only.
      and of course grass fed beef in all it's glory. I am seriously healing all of my health problems.
      everyone is different. dr Gregor looks very unhealthy.
      go eat some kale.

      @@adamisaac4685 Yep, infected gallbladder. To each their own I guess. My body just wasn’t meant to digest that much fat. I can digest carbs and natural sugar, no problem.

      I have been doing more of a vegetarian keto but my neck (where I have had an injury before) still hurts. I'm wondering if my body is too acidic on keto. My neck hurts and I love carbs, I think I'm stopping today. Thank you Dr and everyone for sharing their testimonials.

      quartered oranges, ground hazelnuts, grated apple, coconut cream, vegan milk, honey, a dash of lemon juice.
      Prepared the night before and refrigerated. The best I kid you not.

      Be aware that Soy products contain high levels of Oxalate. Suggest look at Dr Ken Berry MD for his views on it.

      I've heard it called "overnight oatmeal". I put mine in a container, add some nut milk, and next morning Voilla! - I use monk fruit for sweetener.

    I started this oatmeal vegan diet 7 months ago and my blood pressure went dow 40 points to normal! I use to do keto! But found this diet is better for me! But I didn’t find this video only just about 2 months ago, and finally understood why oatmeal work! ❤️

    I have oatmeal for breakfast nearly every day. I make up a mixture of spices, based on Dr. Greger's suggestions. 1 Tbs of ground flaxseed, half tablespoon of alma (dried gooseberry powder, which doesn't have much taste), 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, half teaspoon of ground ginger, ground cloves, and a pinch of salt. I can then scale this up so I can just scoop out a heaping tablespoon to add to the oatmeal as it cooks.
    Then I dice up half a large apple and that as it cooks. I pour it into a bowl with a half cup of blackberries. It all tastes wonderful, and there is no added sugar. It will last me to early afternoon, and it is loaded with fiber, and all sorts of nutrients that are cancer preventatives and heart healthy.
    Edit: Based on How Not To Age, I now also add one tablespoon of wheat germ.

    I did the two day oatmeal thing and it worked for me. Just my experience but postmeal numbers were less as well as fasting numbers. Plain for breakfast, savory for lunch and dinner, steel-cut.

    I had symptoms of prediabetes (peripheral neuropathy in fingers and toes as well as sores) and after I adjusted my diet to WFPB, it went away in a month or two. I'm back to normal and your videos were a big part of that, so thank you Dr. Greger.

      Neuropathy with ulcers is typically serious, & associated with long term uncontrolled diabetes & doesn’t just resolve itself easily. Glad you’re feeling better, but pre-diabetes it should be said, is mostly a judgement on blood tests & asymptomatic.

      @@PhilWhelanNow Well, all I can say is that I know what I felt, I know what I saw and I know that what I did helped. I'm not trying to exaggerate my situation for attention or anything. I really did have numbness that wouldn't go away for months until I made substantial changes to my diet. It was only the that things began to improve. Correllation isn't causation but I was steadily getting worse until I did what I did.

      Hi, I think that eating cooked squash, cucumber , pumpkin seeds, and jicama helps control blood sugars. Also, taking metamucil overnight drops blood sugar numbers. I also go to gym and use the rowing machine and row half a mile.😊

    Been eating oat meals my whole life. Cheap, fast and healthy, three wishes in one. :) Nowadays I have added most of the Daily dozen into my oatmeal, like flaxseeds, herbs , nuts and fruits.

    I usually mix rolled oats with walnuts, chia/flax/pumpkin seeds, cacao powder(yummy) and hot water and leave overnight. In the morning I add ashwaganda powder, nutritional yeast, blueberries, kefir and avocado or kiwi fruit. It doesn't take long to make either.

    I like my oats savory... I just blend up some veggies in some broth and use that for the cooking liquid. I use oats in everything, including soup and sauces, it makes a healthy and almost instant thickener, whole as a grain or blended for a silky base.

      ​@@john1boggity56, I make a quick lunch or dinner savory oatmeal dish. I use quick cooking organic steel cut oats 1/2 cup,
      1- 1/2 cups water, onion and garlic powders (to taste), 1/4 tsp. apple hickory smoked salt. Put all in a large glass mixing bowl and microwave for about 8-12 minutes (depending on your microwave power) it will be thick when done. I then add chia seeds and unfortified nutritional yeast and any other lightly toasted nuts I'd like (toasted pine nuts are great).... maybe a very small pat of Kerry Gold butter. It's thick, gluey, but very satisfying to eat. It's filling too.....mixing in fresh spinach etc. right after cooking oatmeal is also great. Raw chopped scallions or chives also are very good mixed in. Just experiment with the seasonings and veggies you enjoy..... it's fast, easy and healthy. 😊

    I eat oatmeal for breakfast for 9 months of the year, cold cereal for the 3 summer months - I got this habit from my grandfather who made it well into his 80's with only parkinson problems in his late 60's. I'm 76 and have had pretty hood health and take no prescription medications so I'll keep on keepin on.

      I eat my oatmeal cold. Is so good. I put in a container with a alt milk like almond milk. Can do overnight or like me a few hours before I eat it. I take it for lunch at work. organic oats, blueberries, chia seed, cinnamon, ground flax seeds, then put nuts on when I eat it. Very yummy. Never liked hot oatmeal. Just an idea. You can add a sweetener like chopped dates and other fruits. Give it a try.

      @@jamiem3115 Evrey now and then I take a supplement but I drink soy milk that has B12 in it. Animal-eaters get them from animals who ate plants.

    After dealing with health problems that I suspected might lead to diabetes and cardiovascular disease - chronic inflammation, arrhythmias, and blood sugar instability- I started eating oatmeal for all three meals. I make it savory, with veggies and spices, and plenty of beans. I’ve done this for over a year and feel like a new person; symptoms disappeared and I lost 35 lbs that I have easily maintained without any other effort. I occasionally eat other foods but always return to my oatmeal. I crave it now and miss it when I go without (or maybe that’s my gut bacteria talking).

    Works for me. Oatmeal for breakfast and the Nile dries out. Skip oatmeal for a few weeks and the Nile comes back. Still have to work on my scale that accelerates like a Lamborghini. Down 40 lbs so far.

    I went wfpb for 7 months lost weight and got blood sugar under control. But i was a dummy and added animal products back into my diet 6 months ago. Well gained all weight back and some. And my blood sugars run high constantly. So needless to say back to wfpb for me. I will never go back.

    I make a pot of steel cut oats for the week. Everyday I reheat a bowl with soy milk and blueberries then add almond butter and little maple syrup. Thank you for sharing your great information

    78 y.o. male, no pathologies. 25 years ago I developed crippling gout and Doc Sawbones loaded me up on Alopurinol. The Internet was just coming around and we were becoming able to learn more than just what our doctors were telling us. I "went vegan" and began ingesting Turmeric daily (slightly cooked in the presence of olive oil and a small amount of finely ground black pepper.) A month later, I was able to throw away the Alopurinol and live without gout. Doc Sawbones was shocked. But when his own mother developed arthritis, he asked me to write out for her an essay on my Vegan + Turmeric experience... HA. Keep up the good work, Doc ! You are a real Winner. Blessings.

      You may want to consider swapping the honey for something else though. Aside from it being like a refined sugar and terrible in terms of being cavity inducing, it is rather cruel for the animals that it requires exploiting.

      Whole oat oatmeal served without sugar or dairy is good for you...processed instant oatmeal "breakfasts" in pouches, not so much. Not all oatmeal products are equal!

    Always eat oatmeal, all my life. Warm oatmeal with berries and vegan milk. It's also a cure for people
    suffering from upset stomach and indigestion. I also pulverized oats, vegan milk and a banana for a
    smoothy...breakfast on the go.

      It's called carb addiction or low blood sugar.... I'd recommended not having oatmeal, fruit and other sources of glucose for blood sugar stability so you feel great if you miss a meal (fasting) instead of grumpy and stressed.

      Oats are very good for you....just another grain...even if it has slightly more fat than any other grain.....just make sure you're eating plenty of veggies and greens...lots of greens...around the oats so you're not missing out on other nutrients

      @@MrSidReal no, I can easily skip meals with no ill effects. I typically haven't eaten for at least 16 hours before my breakfast. I just really love the taste. That's what I'm addicted to. If I eat animal foods my whole gut shuts down and my rheumatoid arthritis flares up so I guess I'm an obligatory herbivore 😉. Here's one for you - many diabetics need less insulin on a plant based high carb diet and their energy returns. Even some type one diabetics can see dramatic improvements. Science is never settled and there's not always one solution to a problem. Keep an open mind and see what works for yourself. Everything in the biological sciences is infinitely more complicated than anyone can ever know so don't blindly believe the gurus who think they know everything.

    Oatmeal reminds me how my mother served it up with a couple big spoons of sugar on top. She would do the same thing with a cut in half grapefruit. She also made the fried doughnuts with the white sugar on top. There was no Nutrition Facts back in the 1960s...lol

    I currently have 1/2 cup uncooked organic rolled oats...a grated organic apple...a stalk organic celery...leaves n all...about 2 inches raw organic ginger....1/2 tsp organuc amla powder to reduce cholesterol...1 tsp ground wakami for iodine....1 heaped tsp cinnamon...1/2 tsp ground ginger...1/4 tsp turmeric...small sprinkle black pepper, 1 tbsp psyllium husk, 1 tbsp ground flax seed and about 700 mls filtered cool water....i have this with a big handful of lightly steamed green veggies..like kale....broccoli or cauliflower

    Thanks, please continue the good work. The medical community really needs to start addressing the SAD diet on all fronts, the AMA should stand up to the vested self interest groups and get this message out. Kind of like the smoking campaign so many years ago.
    The AMA needs to realize, people don't have time to read, watch videos, etc... they are working or just totally uninformed.

      It's just as Dr. Gregor said, "There is no money in having patients eat a plant based diet." Their patient load will decrease, they will not have to do CV procedures, GI procedures, there would be no autoimmune diseases, etc. Most physicians went into medicine for the prestige & $ - not to help people. Research from decades ago showed that & in anonymous surveys doctors even admit it.

    Thankfully I'm not a diabetic. But I could be "insulin resistant." I alternate between shredded wheat and oatmeal. I also need to have the occasional egg to go with the high nutrition availability of it. I also listen to S. Ekberg on videos. But Dr Greger, you have a very important discussion on oatmeal.

    Fat friends - Yes, you! This really works and it'll save you a fortune. I found this diet accidentally because I wanted to take something to work to save my 15 Euro a day I was spending in the bakeries during my shifts. I started to take a big plastic container of porridge oats, mixed with water, and apple to sweeten - if you don't, we all know that porridge tastes like cardboard. Results: firstly, I wasn't hungry - ever. I ate half in the first half of my shift, and the other half in the second. I took a big container of it. After a week of doing this at work, I weighed myself. Remember, I wasn't doing this to diet, just to save money for my holiday. But, I had lost 2kgs in one week, down from 97 to 95kgs. I had really let myself become fat. After just one week I felt better, slept better and wasn't tired when at work. Coincidence? I didn't know, so I carried on . . . After a couple of weeks, I had got down to 94kgs, without exercise. I felt lighter when walking, had a bit of a spring in my step. I started walking, doing that 10k a day thing. Another week and another kilo - 93kgs now. I was getting excited: started to look in the mirror again and began exercising at home - struggling to do only 10 press-ups on my first go. I had really let myself go. I decided to go for it and went to the gym. I was now doing no breakfast, although you could have porridge lol, but I just had a banana and coffee (no sugar, you get used to that), porridge during the day, and normal meal at night and no sugar in anything and NO BREAD, oh - and full fat milk. Don't be scared of fat, the natural stuff is good for you. And, of course, no high-processed foods. 6 weeks in and I was 90kgs. That's pretty amazing. Then came my blood tests that I have to have every 3 months for my 'illness'. Everything was better - cholesterol down to normal, blood sugar normal, and etc. So, I've been doing this for 3 months now - my bmi for my age is normal, i'm 87kgs, my biceps are 15 inches, my belly around the middle, not hips!, is down 3 inches to 36 inches and I feel great. Strangely, I was also getting headaches which I'd never had before - gone! I was and always have suffered from bloating (nasty lol) - gone! I really feel great which is not a bad statement at 59 years' old i reckon. The amazing thing about porridge dieting is, you don't suffer. Porridge fills you up, and you can eat as much as you like. Oh, and it saves you a fortune and it's full of good stuff!

    Love your work. What about the information coming out now about blood sugar spikes after eating oatmeal? I've started wearing a CGM and my levels go up from normal to alarm levels quickly after eating my breakfast oatmeal.

      I think it's pretty normal for blood spikes to occur after we eat? If you stick strictly to a healthy whole food plant based diet, you shouldn't be getting really big troublesome swings

    Love oatmeal, eat it every morning. My Dr asked why my cholesterol levels are "perfect," all I can think of it's the oats! I add chia and hemp seeds too, I don't tolerate flax too well, and add berries and a drizzle of maple syrup - yum!

      A good way to combine the advice is to add an egg to your oatmeal. It makes it creamier, lowers the overall GI of the meal, adds some protein, and leaves you feeling satiated. Since it makes the meal "fuller", you can reduce the amount of oatmeal you eat but still enjoy it and reap its benefits.

    We had very little animal products growing up. We were too poor. We ate foods like homemade white bread, pinto beans, oatmeal, corn meal, potatoes. I grew up fat and now have type 2. It may take a while for me to accept this idea.

    I love savory oatmeal..... I cook it with onion, garlic, nutritional yeast, ground flaxseed, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and a drop of liquid smoke..... it's so good with fresh spinach mixed in after the oatmeal has been cooked....the spinach wilts just perfectly..... it's really a satisfying meal.

    I eat oats every day - LOVE them and never get sick of them. Baked oats, scrambled oats, protein oats, overnight oats - so many options! I love them all! I boost the nutritional value by including healthy fats, protein, and different fruits (even squash and sweet potato!).

    I actually prefer seeds to oatmeal. Using Chia, hemp, and flax seeds have shown to be more healthier than oatmeal by reducing cholesterol and lowering heart issues and sugar etc.
    quicker. This is from a guy who grew up loving oatmeal as a kid. I made the switch 2 years ago.

      @@Elizabeth-mh5zc I buy them at my local health store and I just buy them as is they come in plastic containers and I just mix them together and heat them up and let them thicken. Usually takes about 7 minutes to cook, usually I stir constantly keeping the seeds from sticking to the pan. Then I add my cinnamon, and a little sweetener like pure maple syrup but just a drip or 2. Or honey. Each seed is about a tablespoon level. I don't get the shakes after I like I got with oatmeal. I add different fruit like blueberries or strawberry and even a banana sometimes. The more time you leave on the low heat, the more thicker the seeds become. Just add a little milk or plant based milk which is good for you. I prefer lactose free milk for me. A cup of milk to start out with. I really like it and my wife who hates oatmeal actually eats this for breakfast with me when I make it. I make it more often in fall, spring and winter than summer. Summer is when I do more with eggs, pancakes and waffles etc.

      @@Elizabeth-mh5zc these are shelled hempseeds and golden flaxseed and chia seeds all organic. No milling or grinding needed. Mix it with your liquid of choice, heat to a rolling boil, then simmer. Let them thicken, add your fruit or whatever else you might want to try. I do mix my cinnamon powder in while I heat the seeds.

    125g ORGANIC OATS
    100g peanut butter (or peanuts) 100% peanuts
    300g FROZEN bananas
    100g blueberries
    75g carrots
    10g whole flax seeds
    30g frozen kale (bagged, pre-washed)
    30g broccoli
    5g nutritional yeast (unfortified)
    Use organic when possible and enjoy!
    P.S. Sistema makes the PERFECT large 236oz. storage container for freezing bananas.

      While pre-ground flaxseeds offer similar amounts of protein, total fat, fiber, minerals and vitamins as those you buy whole and grind yourself, they likely contain lower levels of heart-healthy polyunsaturated fats, including omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Pre-ground flaxseed has been exposed to oxygen longer; oxygen causes polyunsaturated fats to break down. (So do heat and light.) Tell-tale sign that this has occurred: an off smell and/or flavor you might call "rancid."
      To retain the polyunsaturated fatty acids, store your flaxseed-whole or ground-in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer. If you do buy pre-ground, be sure your storage container is dark-and not made of metal, which contains minerals that contribute to fat breakdown. Best bet: Buy whole. Grind only what you need. Relish the freshness. (Note: Whole flaxseeds are very hard and will pass through your body undigested if you don't grind them before sprinkling them on your cereal or salad. A coffee grinder, blender or small food processor does a fabulous job of "freeing" the nutrients of your flax so that you can absorb them.)

      Try overnight oats! I discovered this a year ago and I like it better than the warm oatmeal. I just put almost 1 cup of oats in a mason jar, cover with soy milk so that it's a cm over the oats, and then I add fruits and nuts on top that I will mix in later. Leave in the fridge overnight. Best thing ever! Lots of variations on the Net.

    Oatmeal always makes my sugars spike. I have tried steel-cut oatmeal with almond milk and still no luck. I actually *want* to eat oatmeal. I just can't.

    I tried feeding my family savory oatmeal for dinner. They didn't like it. I switched to barley (basically the same thing with respect to beta glucan). The barley looks a lot like rice and I had no problem getting them to eat it as a dinner starch.

      The only problem is that barley contains GLUTEN, whereas organic/gluten-free oats from a separate processing facility (that we eat) do not!

    Everyone in America needs to test their fasting INSULIN levels. NOT glucose.
    Your body can cover thing for 20 years of damage. You don’t know your level of insulin resistance until you test. Lots of people drink fruit smoothies thinking they are healthy. Until 15 years and = non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Oops but all it takes is $20 to check and track C-peptides proxy. Listen to whoever you want. Get it tested. You are looking for a level of 2-4. If you’re eating a standard American diet expect your insulin levels to be closer to 20.

      How we live now is like driving your car always in second gear. You can drive at 75 mph in second gear. It’s not great for the longevity of the car but you can do it. It’s not going to explode on day one … but that doesn’t mean you aren’t doing damage. It’s your engine do what you want. But do the damn cheap testing to see your trends and atleast know the daily damage you are doing.
