Sir Barry Gibb was male perfection. He could of had all the women but has been married to the same woman for over 50 years. When this song was recorded he had been married for 8 or 9 years.

Yes, women everywhere were swooning over Barry but no, he was not "knocking 'em down" as you said. He & his wife, Linda have been happily (& faithfully) married since Sept. 1, 1970. They got married on Barry's 24th birthday & eventually had 5 kids together. He credits Linda for helping him through the pressures of his early career, pulled him out of deep grief/depression over his brothers' deaths, & for pushing him to keep making music after he lost his lifelong musical partners. Linda deserves credit for keeping their music alive & still captivating new audiences for years to come...

In general there are six main vocal ranges: soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, and bass. In this composition, the Bee Gees are using what is known as falsetto singing to make this sound and hit these notes that their chest voice, or normal full voice, wouldn't allow them to do. In between those two styles you have the head voice which is sort of a mixture of both. Typically a falsetto tends to be weak, thin and sometimes airy. Barry Gibb probably has one of the best and most powerful sounding falsetto voices.

Ahhhh I didn’t know it was six! That is insane !!!

    • @aryansigrid
      @aryansigrid 2 роки тому +10

I believe there are 7 ranges, the extra is one is known as the "Dimash" range, lol............
Really though, if you don't know who the amazing Dimash is I recommend you bless your ears with his vocals, he can sing equally as well in the "bass" range as he can in the "counter-tenor" range. He is able to cover 7 Octaves which, I think, is pretty impressive. He has performed the song known as The "Diva Song" from the movie "The 5th Element'", which is a song known to not be humanly possible to sing because of how the song was devised in the first place but Dimash shows how a singer can. Below is a link to a video of him performing the "Diva Dance" song,

In this song, and many others of theirs they sing in falsetto - a method of voice production used by male singers, especially tenors, to sing notes higher than their normal range. A lot of their songs are done in their natural deeper voices. They discovered their falsetto voices in the 1970's.

Too Much Heaven is from the Bee Gee's live performance at The Music for UNICEF Concert: A Gift of Song. It was a benefit concert of popular music held in the United Nations General Assembly in New York City on January 9, 1979. It was intended to raise money for UNICEF world hunger programs and to mark the beginning of the International Year of the Child. The concert was videotaped and broadcast the following day on NBC in the U.S. and around the world. The Bee Gees gave UNICEF rights to all royalties from the song. It's raised about $13 Million for UNICEF thus far.

The Bee Gees are the 3 Brothers Gibb. Barry was born in 1946. Robin (long blond hair) and Maurice (pronounced Morris) are fraternal twins born in 1949. They started singing when Barry was 8 and the twins Maurice and Robin were 5 in 1958. Their first albums came out in the early 1960’s. Their career ran from 1958 to 2009. After 2009 Robin and Barry still produced music and albums but not under the Bee Gees.
Their father was a drummer who had a band that played in clubs. Their mother was a dance hall singer. They started singing and playing their instruments as young children on the back of a pickup truck at the Sidney, Australia speedway for the coins tossed to them for spending money. The music producer Bill Gates saw them at the speedway and offered to manage them. Once the boys started getting a lot of gigs their father became their manager and the boys supported the family of 7 (Mother, father, Barry, the twins, a sister, and their younger brother Andy). When they were in their later teens they dropped out of school and eventually moved back to the UK where they were born. This was the same time as the Beatles phenomenon. The rest is history.
The twins have passed away, Maurice (1/12/2002) and Robin (5/20/2012). Barry is still alive at the age of 76, and still writing songs, performing, and putting out albums. One of the great things about the Bee Gees and their long career is that they were constantly growing and reinventing themselves.
They have a younger brother Andy (born 3/5/1958) who performed on his own. The Bee Gees wrote songs for him and sometimes they all performed together. Andy was just as talented as his older brothers. Andy died in 3/10/1988 from inflammation of the years, as a result of a viral infection.
The Bee Gees wrote and produced over 1,000 songs to include songs they wrote for Diana Ross, Dion Warrick, Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton and even Michael Jackson.
They have sold over 120 million records worldwide (with estimates as high as over 225 million records sold worldwide), making them among the best-selling music artists of all time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997; the Hall's citation says, "Only Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney have outsold the Bee Gees." With nine number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100, the Bee Gees are the third-most successful band in Billboard charts history behind only the Beatles and the Supremes.

Just a little thing; They did start when Barry was 8-9 & the twins 5, nearly 6, in 1955 (rather than 1958). 1955, they began as The Rattlesnakes. They moved to Australia early 1958 & performed briefly as Wee Johnny Hays & the Blue Cats, which is when they met Bill Goode & Bill Gates. 1958, Gates changed their name to BG's (later Bee Gees), inspired by all the BG initial's in the room (Bill Gates, Bill Goode, Barry Gibb & mother Barbara Gibb). They later realized BGs/Bee Gees could also stand for Brothers Gibb.

@@kens.4198 My understanding of Andy’s career trajectory is different. Being 12 years younger than Barry and 9 years younger than the twins, Andy started his career in groups with his peers and then had a solo career (with the songwriting, producing and backup singing support of his brothers, Barry in particular). Andy performed with The Bee Gees a bit in the Spirits Having Flown concerts and was planning on joining them more in 1988, but sadly, he unexpectedly passed before that became a reality. He left us with so many gorgeous songs, for which I’m very thankful.

Btw Barry has been married to his wife for about 52 years. 5 kids. The twins passed away, Morris in 2003 and Robin in 2012, if I remember correctly. The youngest brother, Andy, died in 1988. Barry and his friend David were driving back to Miami from Philadelphia (circa 74) and listening to tunes on the radio when the Stylistics came on. The Gibb brothers had only recently moved to America and were looking for a new sound since their previous ballads were no longer in demand. Barry says he was amazed and intrigued by the falsetto from this R&B group, and it wasn't long before he was trying it out himself; and ultimately found the new sound for the Bee Gees.

You want funk, check out their song “ love you inside and out”….they liked the Delphonics, the Spinners and others. They grew up listening to the Mills Brothers. You should hear Barry’s Chest voice…he has a fantastic range, can go low he can go high. Low is Barbitone, middle is Tenor and high is soprano. The lead on this song is Barry, he has been married to Linda for over 50 years and took her and his family on the road, she was there for everything. He said family was everything to him, that he couldn’t do what he did without having them. He has 5 grown children and last count 8 grandchildren. In fact when they moved their operation to Miami in the 70’s He moved his wife’s family from Scotland over too. The two on the sides were twins, Robin and Maurice ( pronounced Morris), they are fraternal twins. They have been recording and performing as the BeeGees since 1958 through the 2000’s until Mo died. They wrote over 1000 songs and wrote songs for other artists and produced them too.

Maurice has quite a deep voice, see him with Lulu doing the first of May. Robin has a very unique voice, see Massachusetts. Barry's voice sounds a little higher, see Words, from early in their career. They write the songs, when they became unpopular after disco died, he just started writing hits for other artists, Mo called him a hit machine. You have to see Jive Talking, for the funk. These guys were first signed in the 60's as kids, Barry did an album last year they wrote over 1,000 songs..

Gotta love the Bee Gees! They started churning out hits in the 60s. Barry is still at it, and came out with a new album about 2 years ago - a compilation of Bee Gees tunes in duets with country singers. It's excellent, and called Greenfields. Oh, and he's been happily married since 1970 to Linda Gray.

They listened to Motown groups, the Everly Brothers, Beach Boys, the Mills Brothers, the Beatles for the harmonies. Mo loved to sing harmony and he said he would listen for hours to the groups that harmonized and that is how he learned to sing harmony. They also loved Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding (wrote a song for him but he died before he could record it, so they recorded it) and other black artists.

This song came out in 1979.
Barry (middle) has a high pitched falsetto, and he had that tremble in his voice. They have unique voices, especially Barry, when he hits those high notes! They harmonize beautifully together. Yet, they each stand out. I love The Bee Gees! Barry... ahhhh! Especially when he sings, "Ooooh, you and me girl..." My God! Barry, makes women fall in love with him. 😜

Young people today have no idea how great our music was during the 70's and 80's. I was a teenager in the south when the BeeGees, Motown, Disco all came pouring down. It was absolutely the best of times! I danced my bootie off to all of them. The BeeGees were my favorite because they not only had amazing voices but they wrote their own music and even wrote great hits for other singers that became mega hits. Their talent was off the charts! These brothers were awesome. The oldest Barry, in the middle, is the last surviving brother. May their music remain alive forever.❤❤❤

What a fantastic reaction video! Your astonishment is delightful xx Everyone has already said anything I could add except that to note that they were all wonderful musicians as well, particularly Maurice. His ear and ability to translate the sound to numerous instruments is really fantastic. His bass playing was above par... take a listen to Jive Talkin', my favorite bass line of all time. Also, none of the brothers could read music. They had pure genuine talent, each with different vocal sounds and areas that they excelled in, as well as the ability to mimic each other and combine their voices together to create an even different sound (like Barry and Robin singing melody together.) I really do hope you have time to explore more of their entire catalog. I believe you will continue to be astonished at what you hear. Also, they wrote for other vocalists of the time as well... Kenny and Dolly, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, Oliva Newton John, Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion and many others. Enjoy!!

Nowadays, the Bee Gees are mostly famous for singing in the falsetto range, but in their early days they sounded a lot different. Their music career spans over 5 decades - first formed in 1958 as a trio of kid singers/musicians. So there is a variety of different music that they've delved into & collaborated with many other artists over the years. Barry (the oldest, in the middle) is usually lead, but Robin has also been lead vocals on several notable songs. Robin (on the left, white shirt) had such a melodic, ethereal voice with that soft warbling we all recognized as being his unique trademark sound. He was considered to be the "songbird" of the family. Many folks say that Robin had the best voice out of all the Gibb brothers. Sadly, both twins passed away (2003 & 2012). Luckily for us, Barry is still alive & continues to make music. His 3rd solo album was released in Jan. 2021

All three brothers had their own unique falsetto's, baritone chest voices, and everything in-between, and were also able to slide up and down with ease!!! IMO, they are the most talented group, & exceptional singers of all time! They span over many decades, & crossed quite a few genres, so if you choose to go down this rabbit hole, you will have a terrific journey!! I believe, that if there is music in Heaven, it would sound like the Bee Gee's ❤❤❤

Their inspiration started with the Mills Brothers (Their dad's favorite group) and the harmonies they were famous for. Then later lots of soul singers influenced their RnB, funk, falsetto phase 1975- 1985-ish and later, once in a while, a track or two per album.

Just stumbled upon your channel today. I've watched numerous UA-camrs react to the Bee Gees over the past few years. It's always so refreshing (& fun) to watch new people discover all the amazing music I was lucky to grow up with... I'm 55 now (56 next spring) & discovered The Bee Gees when I was about 10 years old, when the movie Saturday Night Fever came out in 1977.
Let me rephrase that, I had first heard the Bee Gees on a song called "Jive Talkin" when I was about 8 yrs old. It was on the radio all the time. It's one of those songs with such an infectious beat that it just takes over & your body starts moving automatically. I had heard their music on radio or TV, but never made the connection of WHO they were, y'know what I mean?
OK, flash forward 2 years & my cousin just bought the soundtrack album to the 1977 film "Saturday Night Fever". Of course, neither one of us saw the movie, as it was R rated & we were only 10 & 13 yrs old at the time. She bought the double album & we listened to it on repeat. I remember it had photos of scenes from the movie. But I didn't care about the film, I just liked all the great music I was hearing! Shortly after that day, I went out to the music store (What are those?!?! LOL) & bought the album for myself. I remember that it was the first time I had purchased "grown up's music" with my own weekly allowance money.
The Bee Gees wrote most of that soundtrack & it is filled with so much great music, sang either by them or other artists. The album is one of the best selling in recorded music history (40+ million copies) & still remains as the 2nd biggest selling soundtrack. It was #1 for years until The Bodyguard soundtrack (by Whitney Houston) broke sales record held since the late 70's!
In my youth, I was more of a fan-girl for their little brother, Andy Gibb. He tragically died back in 1988 at only 30 yrs old. His brothers collaborated on some of his music & he even performed with them a few times. A great video to check out by the Bee Gees is "You should be dancing" (from Saturday Night Fever). The video shows them on stage with Andy, standing next to Maurice & it also has clips from the movie featuring John Travolta's glorious disco dance moves.

Bro I really enjoyed your reaction. I love to watch people react to the BeeGees. I had an eight track of Saturday Night Fever with several of their songs on it. They are one of my favorite groups. These were 3 brothers with many many hits. The 2 on the sides were twins. Unfortunately, Barry the middle one is the only one still alive and I believe he still performs.

If you want to hear their normal voice range you need to see *To Love Somebody* 1967.
If you like Barry's high notes you should check out the *Righteous Brothers* from the 60's. Start with *You've Lost That Loving Feeling* then do *Unchained Melody* 1965 where the tenor of their duo does a solo song.
