      Ummm you obviously dont know what oxidizer does. The fact that oxidizer is even present means that he doesnt need air intakes. Think of it this way in space the space shuttle carries oxidizer and liquid fuel. The oxidizer acts as the air hence without oxygen engines dont work so when theres oxidizer he doesnt need air intakes for air.

    The X-15 didn't use air breathing engines, it used a closed cycle. You're looking for the SR 71 Blackbird... although that only reached Mach 3.5. Still very fast, however.
    You may as well just be building a rocket if you're going for closed cycle.

Then make the fuselage so that all the tanks have oxidizer in them, then line the bottom of the aircraft with heat shields, turn off ignore max temp, and start off just inside the atmosphere to see how fast it will go without cheats. Then turn on cheats just to see how fast it can really go, including infinite fuel. And the entire time staying in line with the runway and attempt a landing

      HalfEYEProduction The title just bothers me thats all friend! It's not a "challenge" when you bring in non-vanilla parts cuz it can be modified. Plus I love LOVE mods for ksp its ashamed that its not on x64 (can't wait for 1.1).

    • @HalfEYEProduction
      @HalfEYEProduction  8 років тому +2

      +JeRic The title is there to merely sum up the point of the video in a few words, having "Challenge" in the title is still valid as challenge means "A task that tests someones abilities" Which for me as someone still learning this game is still true regardless of the mods. That's like saying a video with "Funny Moments" in the title bothers you because you didn't find the video funny. It's to sum up everything generally not to individually cater to someone specifically.
      I don't mean any of this as a Put Down at all that's not my intention. I understand that you as someone who may understand this game wouldn't find this a challenge especially with mods but for me that's a different story :P

    The auroplane tail wings (or whatever they are called) seem to boost your planes speed when the control surface side is rotated to be against or slightly pointing outwards of your plane's body.
    BUT, this may only work when you use space plane tail wings for the main wings

  • @LordOfAlwar

    The reason the X-15 used those winglets was because it was kinda towed up into the air and dropped. There it would activate and kinda just blast off. It didn't need big wings to take off, they just needed control and stability.

    The more engines you have the more weight you have wich means you need more thrust to push the weight wich is why you need as little weight and high thrust as possible. More engines = more weight wich you have to push
    Btw that is actual science or rocket science

    I just made a plane that goes 2100m/s at 27,000m. This plane also three extra long cargo bay lengths plus mk3 cockpit and cargo ramp at the end. It contains everything needed for a mobile sustainable science research base, using uks life support. It has a boom on the nose of the mk3 cockpit, that projects a heat shield away from the mk3 cockpit and prevents explosions. I'm thinking of downloading some realistic
    aerodynamic mod for more challenges

  • @euanstrachan9834
    @euanstrachan9834 5 років тому

    I'm just speculating because I don't really know but, surely when you couldn't lift up on the scaffolding it's because you couldn't nose up because the flaps on a plane like that are meant to push down so by having flaps in front of the wheels means you cant push the tail down and raise the nose causing it to lift

    I just made a plane that takes 15sec to go 1500MS then it blows up from heat. I also spent only 10-20min building the thing, it’s also pretty maneuverable, until you pull up it shreds itself. So I wanted to make a SSO with that design and get some ideas from videos. And wow 😮 your plane is INSANE.

    If you want to do the challenege for real, the plane was basically a rocket with too little fuel to reach orbit. It was dropped from the wing of a bomber at around 30,000 feet (What's that, like, 6km?) and then the plane rocketed up and away.

  • @sodaithink
    @sodaithink 4 роки тому

    With the X-15 they attached the Spaceplane to a B-52 bomber since it couldn’t take off on its own. Once high enough, they would decouple the X-15 and start up the engine, darting through the thin atmosphere, going into space.

  • @danielhoven570

    The X - 15 flew at an altitude between 180,000 ft and 250,000 ft depending on the profile of the mission and the tests being performed.

    I made a plane that travelled almost as fast as that. It was more stable, lighter, it did not need to go suborbital, it had capacity for crew, it was made only with stock parts (it didn’t use mods.). and it didn’t require all those parts. The only diference is that it was bigger and a Little fragile. The one you built was more resistent and smaller.

  • @leviwithpaws4292
    @leviwithpaws4292 5 років тому

    The way the X-15 works, is it works on a rocket engine, because the heights it flies at, there is not enough air to use the engine on the Lockheed "blackbird" SR71

  • @jamesmorris620

    the X-15 has small Wings because it's essentially a rocket on its side. it can't fly at lower speeds and has to be carried by a larger plane and then thrown out and fired off

  • @chrisortega9947

    I am an aviation geek and I know that NASA did this by using 97% titanium and 2% stainless steel and 1% other heat resistance material thus allowing it to take the heat and not explode. And for the engine that allows it to reach those kinds of speed they used the XLR99. Now they used one you are using like 4.

  • @M3dicayne
    @M3dicayne 4 роки тому

    Well, interesting. Getting fast is not the problem in KSP. Evoiding explosions through heat, rapid aircraft movements or the Kraken are a different story though.
    I built a Blackbird-like plane which had a HUGE turning radius, but was capable of flying almost 2.000m/s just before leaving atmosphere, just by using TweakScale with stock jet engines and plane parts. It had two cruise missiles on board through BDArmory, but that's a totally different story...

    When you were at the runway, it didn't take off because the wheels were behind the flaps. You could've fixed that issue if you added wings to the nose of the aircraft.
